  3. @El Gecko I don’t have round 6 either sadly. Looks like the designer deleted the photo unfortunately. I have a vague memory of it, but not confident enough to draw it. Figure of eight then a big run to the right?
  4. Great laps everyone, especially @Carmine A! That’s a stupendous lap count! Your average lap would be about 2s a lap quicker than mine I might give it a few weeks before I try out for nationals now Congrats on the win! what sort of track awaits us next?
  5. See, now I've read this, and then see this from another thread Perhaps this is what your nephew's garden will look like come the summer I kinda want a Madbull now though! (or go the other way, and put big wheels on the Rising Fighter)
  6. I've had my 5 year old playing with my RC cars for a few years now, and it's surprising how well he's able to control it. With the speed dialled down and the space to get used to it, they soon pick it up. He started with Lunchbox/Heavy Dump sessions, when really all he could do was throttle or steering. The Heavy Dump was great for those as it didn't get stuck too much, and looked interesting to him as he could interact with it with his other construction toys. I used the EPA settings on the controllers to keep the speed down, allowing me to set it to the appropriateness of the terrain. As he's got older, he wanted something quicker, so he's tried out Hotshots, TT02Bs, Top Force, Optima etc. He tended to get quite opinionated about what they looked like, so that might be a key to the success, whether your nephew likes the look of it, the colour. I still have the speed wound down to 75%, but he's had a go on full power and actually prefers to be in control when the space is tight. On rugby pitches he was much happier with it at 100% on mild motors. Reliability wise, the worse option (thankfully something you've not picked) is touring cars. When playing with his cousin, it can often turn into a destruction derby, and the touring cars really don't get on well there. The buggies however seem ok. TT02B vs Hotshot hasn't really resulted in any damage to person or car. I think the big wheels would be a great success, I don't think the bumpy ground would hinder them. I think the increased ride height would reduce grass pickup on the driveshafts etc, which can bring playtime to a halt. Buggy wheels would be more performant, but more likely to get stuck in the mud you refer to. I've not had a Madbull, but the simplicity, ruggedness and big wheels (always popular) is great choice. You could stick big tyres on a TT02B if one of those bodies was more appealing, but the price starts to creep up.
  7. That clean tarmac, those foam tyres, and then your description of the car's handling, I'm also convinced it went like a demon! Sadly my own escapades have been less fruitful. A combination of change of location, work, childcare and an unexpected lack of motivation where RC is concerned has meant apart from one run when we confirmed the track, I've not been able to get out. I did have the gear in the car a couple of weekends ago, but managed to find every excuse not to run as I drove round to the usual haunts. @Carmine A nice tips, I'll look to give those a try. All my setup till now has been stock setup, which hopefully hasn't moved since I built them.

  9. Got some laps in this morning with the TB05. Interesting track, quite easy to lose time. I think anyone with a grippy surface could do very well. I was sliding a lot, hard to be consistent. Once I got more confident with squeezes of the throttle the time started to come in. I think there’ll be gains to be made making use of brakes on the esc perhaps. I got a nice rhythm on the track, certainly not as quick as round 8 for me. I did start to wonder with some track development time there could be some tweaking to be done. Perhaps a 9.5 version for later on ?

  13. Is that just a replacement of the ball diff with a 54471, and upgrading to a 54398? I added a one way to my XV01, sounds like the gear diff from there has a potential new home
  14. I think you'll find the FF03R will go very well. Your car setup experience will enable you to dial it in very nicely no doubt. I found my FF03 on the surface I had just wanted to rotate all the time. It made it very difficult to not add extra hairpins to each lap! However I could feel that getting that under control will allow for some slick manouevering on the tight corners. Hehe, driving round my own circuit on a secluded driveway with no-one watching is quite different to doing it with other cars and people around! I have to say the tyre really helped, once warmed up the TB05 was on rails. I'd reduced the pinion size to get some more pep, I must have found the sweet spot for that track and for my throttle finger. The FF03 for example was far too twitchy on the throttle, even with similar tyres on. I think the lap monitor does help so much. Not having to keep manual count allows focus on what you're doing. The call out of the lap time helps with investigating different lines or squeezes of the throttle. The latter it really showed to me, that going faster most of the time didn't really help. Tight lines and composure seemed to win out (even if it was less exciting!). Thanks Great to see 15 entrants, looking forward to some suggestions for the next track. Perhaps after the recent touring car wins, we need something that suits buggies more? Maybe putting a small jump in there is too much?
  15. Did a handful of runs this afternoon. TB05 settled in nicely. TA07 suffering a lack of steering. Not understeer, just a lack of lock really. I thought I'd read that the TA07 had a better steering angle, so perhaps I need to revisit that knowledge.
  16. Did some postal racing, enjoying the sunnier weather. Thought, seems warm enough, make a start on a car body. Half a can of Translucent blue, two coats of Bright Gun Metal, then two coats of Black. Disaster. The Blue and Gun Metal went on over the course of a few hours, but still the black managed to penetrate it. So now, do I strip the whole body back, or find some way to salvage that, or just live with it as a beater?

Lovely day here, children preoccupied, so time for some racing all this MF01X Escort talk encouraged me to get my own MF01X out conditions have changed so much, that grip rolling was the major issue. Good giggle, though the suspension felt a little stiff, a lot of bobbling about. Probably didn’t help with the grip rolling either. next up I got the FF03 out. That was all a bit weird. Like driving a reverse rwd, lots of over rotation with power. Once I was more tender with the throttle the laps started to come. Boyed by the success with these two, out came the TB05. That was awesome, got a nice rhythm going. So much so I hit the lower lap limit on the Lap Monitor have to review the timing later to see what it does. Is it logging a limited lap time but not adjusting the actual time, or is it time shifting? after adjusting that I tried again, and I could get under the limit, but ended up trying too hard and kept collecting the lap monitor unit. I wonder how much weight I’d need in something to mount the lap monitor so that it didn’t move on contact? A housing with sloped edges to divert the cars away? Or just drive better!
