  1. Finally decided on a driver for my GOM. Tunnel Rat from GI JOE Sigma 6 line On Another note... I spent time thinking about how to protect the shifter slot for the 2-speed transmission. Do I cover it with lexan, somehow make a rubber boot? In the end, my head was already fatigued from work and I just thought... 3M Tape.... piece of felt.... it'll work. LOL
  2. Had a chance to go out crawling again on Black Friday.
  3. It's starting to get to the finish line. Minor decals added. I really love the way this truck looks. By no means complete yet, as I still have some parts to put on..... but I will be running it soon.
  4. Added a few more things... Aluminum Shock Upper Balls (available on eBay) (one is already on the truck) GMADE GOM Sway Bar (available on eBay)
  5. Steps 87-91: Wheels and Tires Stuffed the stock GMADE MT-2202 Tires with Pro-Line 2.2 Single Stage Rock Crawler Foam
  6. Went back and added a few upgrades... GMADE GR01 Aluminum HI/LO Shift Fork GM30087 (available on eBay) GMADE GR01 Machined M4 99mm Upper Link (Titanium gray) GM30105 (available on eBay) JunFac Hardened Universal Shaft for GMADE GOM Rock Buggy J90036 (available on eBay) JunFac GA60 Aluminum Panhard Bar Axle Mount (Titanium Gray) J30009 (available on eBay)
  7. Some work under the hood. Picture of the Mamba X just fitting into the spot above the receiver box. So as mentioned the receiver box is quite small. I'm using a FlySky 6ch receiver and it's just a tad too big for the box so I had to modify the receiver casing. The receiver will only fit by putting it on its side.
  8. Steps 75-86: Cage/Body/Cockpit I'll add pictures of the body panels later, but was playing around with the cage to see what woudl be involved in getting to certain areas of the truck during maintenance. So you can take the cage off as a whole piece. There's gotta be a way we can make this work by a hinge and fasten right? Will be painting more details to the cockpit later. EDIT: Here are the rest of the body pictures. Painted with Tamiya PS-30 Brilliant Blue and Tamiya PS-5 Black

Yeah, I just ordered the sprue. I'm definitely getting the aluminum upgrade. Just waiting for it to be in stock at online vendors. Junfac's shipping is too expensive for me to consider for small parts. There's actually several things they have that I want that are not in stock elsewhere.

I just pulled the same boneheaded move.
  11. Steps 69-74: Steering & Panhard Links/Rods So, I did run into a snag here. The panhard axle mount that the panhard rod attaches to on the axle uses a countersunk screw to secure it into place. The "eye" of that mount for that countersunk screw isn't very sturdy. Well... like TWINSET that did the same thing with his build that I didn't really remember until I did it myself.... I overtightened it by hand and "split" goes the eye of the panhard mount. Grrrr . It will hold for now as the other half of the eye is not broken. Anyway, I ordered the sprue that contains that particular part for now, while I wait for the upgrade metal part to show in stock at vendors. The panhard axle mount metal upgrade is one part that I WILL BE DOING.
  12. Steps 61-68: Shocks I really need to get some more specific tools to do some of these build steps like the shocks. I'm sure I can do a much better job, but for now I'll keep winging it and improvising with the tools I have. Applying some Noleen grease (found on eBay) (thanks Jato!) Bought the upgraded metal rear shock brace for the GOM
  13. Step 47: Steering Servo I skipped this step earlier, because I'm using the Savox SC-1283SG Servo. The kit comes with pre-molded servo spacers that encase the servo ears. They are pre-molded to fit most servos that use thinner plastic servo ears. The Savox 1283 is metal cased, and has thicker servo ears so the pre-molded servo spacer didn't fit. What I ended up doing was to use Yeah Racing M3 3mm spacers to space the servo up.
  14. Steps 55-60 - Drive Shafts, Attaching Axles to chassis.
  15. Steps 46-54: Lower Chassis Part 2 - Lower and upper front cage, battery tray, driver's side chassis rail.
  16. Steps 38-45: Lower Chassis Part 1 Transfer case, shift servo (Savox SC-0254mg), and transmission attached to skid. Using a SkyRC Ares Pro 8.5T (4100kv) brushless motor for now. Shift servo calibration using the 3ch 3position switch on the FlySky GT3C
  17. Steps 28-37: Links Bought the upgraded trailing arms Comparison of stock trailing arms with the upgraded ones Links attached to skid
  18. Used Versachem Brake Caliper Grease to grease the gears. Also added the GR01 Aluminum slipper plate (GM30073). Temporarily using a SkyRC Ares Pro 540 Competition 8.5T (4100kv) brushless motor for now. If I use this, I'll be using the Castle Mamba Monster X Esc. If I go the brushed route, I'll probably use the Hobbywing 1080 Esc + Maybe the Traxxas Titan 21T. Steps 19-27: Transmission
  19. Used Versachem Brake Caliper Grease to grease the gears. Steps 14-18: Transfer Case
  20. I forgot to take some photos during the beginning steps, but I'll remember going forward. Steps 1-13: Front and Rear Axles GMADE GA60 Brass steering knuckle bushing (4) GM30076

Any idea if the Turnigy TGY-iA6 (Flysky FS-iA6) will work with a hacked FlySky GT3C? Or will it only work with the FS-i series?
  23. This is going to be my first Traxxas. Finally. Kit!
  24. Got an awesome deal on a new kit with damaged box ($57). Had to pick it up for my son. I've got my own Lunchbox with a bunch of suspension and chassis mods running 13.5T brushless power. For his, I'm keeping everything bone stock for now as far as performance mods go. This is one of the 3 projects that was holding me up from other builds because of the lack of time to work on the body. (Still not actually done, few more decals to print up)
