  1. Super longtime since I have posted here but we are back in lockdown in NZ and it has had me going through what I have tucked away. One thing I have dug back out is my 1988 BNIB Avante (unfortunately the one without the Technigold included) which is in my showroom. I am considering parting ways with this having owned it nearly 14 years but trying to figure out a fair value these days with rere's, ups and downs in the market, scarcity of them coming up on eBay is a nightmare. Just wondering if anyone has sold one recently or may have an idea of the range it might go for? I have no need to sell it but I am thinking that my nostalgia for the car has more or less gone (I had one way back in the day as my first proper rc) and others may appreciate it more than me keeping it in a cupboard. My children are more into Traxxas than Tamiya sadly! Having said all that if its not so desirable Ill probably just hang on to it.....maybe all the nostalgia hasn't gone just yet Any thoughts appreciated.
  2. Its been a while since I have posted on here....possibly 10 years!!! Long time lurker.... I am in Christchurch and would be keen to know what hobby shop you are using and if he is interested in shipping this way? 2 children and 4 weeks of lockdown....might need an 'educational' project!
  3. I have a brand new set with my boxed Avante ...one problem its in New Zealand and I live in London ...but wait I fly to New Zealand on Thursday .....but I dont have a scanner in NZ .......But I do have a friend with one ....I think . If you can wait three weeks Ill see what I can do, may pay to PM me as a reminder and Ill do my best to try and get you a scan. nzl60 P.S I have a new set of 959 Rothman decals in the UK ill try and get them scanned either tomorrow or when I get back.
  4. 'cultech' a member on here used to make aluminium mirrors for both sides that are very nice (I have a set and can testify to their quality) if you are lucky someone may have a set for sale on here. Edit: just did a quick search for him but cant seem to find his showroom so I may have the name wrong or he may have left????
  5. $2800 Thats a lot of money for an Avante. To give you an indication I bought the one in my showroom at the end of 2006 (NIB) with an extra NIB body set, new technigold, 2 sets of C parts, a titanium screw set and many more new in pack parts for $1100US. I thought it was a bit of a steal at the time and I still do. I would say that the Avante by itself would be worth anywhere from $900-$1500 depending on time of year and whether or not two bidders go at it on eBay. I think the days of a NIB Avante less than $1000 are becoming rarer than a tax break from Gordon Brown.
  6. Hi guys, Thanks for the info it is definitely appreciated! It does seem a shame there isnt a 'mega' store as I had envisaged but I will definitely check out some of those stores queens33588 if I am I am close to any so cheers for those addresses. Hibernaculum I know what you mean about Hamleys, I am currenty living in London and I love the store but do as you do and laugh at their prices, I have a friend who can get me a 30% discount there but even then its often cheaper to buy of the net. Shame really. F A O Schwarz sounds like a bit of me I will be sure to check it out! No doubt probably arriving back in the UK with a much smaller bank balance..but hey what are holidays for if not to enjoy yourself nzl
  7. Hi guys I am lucky enough to be heading over to NYC in a couple of weeks and seeing as we are getting great value for money at the moment I thought I might treat myself to some new toy...sorry...I mean necessary Tamiya items and or other essential items I come across Can anyone suggest the best Central NY Hobby Store? Cheers nzl
  8. I cant remember the exact price but I saw one set go for over a $100us Then the following week I saw another set go for roughly $40us so if one hasnt turned up for a while you may be in for a bidding war if another dedicated collector or rebuilder is out there! Unless your selling of course....
  9. Never tried it myself but a few guys on their 1:1 cars have been known to drip bleach onto the tire helping to produce smoke in greater quantities. Well so I have been told. I have not investigated how this affects the rubber and whether or not it lowers the temperature that smoke is produced or the smoke is infact the bleach burning off but it could be worth a crack!
  10. Fantastic service, fast, well packaged, I cannot rate you guys highly enough. Cheers!
  11. Ahhhh the joys of a small country and heavily used auction site! Excellent result. Pity about the Blackfoot but you never know it will probably turn up sooner or later! G
  12. Don that sucks mate, having been in your factory and seeing a rather tasty Rough Rider if I remember correctly (???) you can only be glad they didnt get your other RC rides. Its probably a pretty fair bet they will end up on old T/M sooner or later. There is a positive...you have space for three 'new' Tamiyas! Good luck in finding the others though mate.
  13. Re Subarus commitment to Rallying, doesnt look like it will be the saloon though its not clear. Below is from the NZ Subaru website. 'And Subaru will use the new Impreza to lead its assault on the World Rally Championship, where it has already made a commitment to continue competing until at least 2010.' http://www.subaru.co.nz/About_Subaru/News/?article=1027 We may very well have more WRX's per person than any other country (we already hold that record for Ferrari's) so it will be interesting to see how this...urgghh..'boring looking' version will go down.
  14. Quite simply No No No No and No. Pick your game up Tamiya, atl east make the Avante Mk2 the full noise everything included off road racer. [+o(]
  15. Pah, I rode to work on my motorbike this morning, and I haven't died once yet! Your all soft! I rode to work on my mountain bike and nearly died twice! Decided against it though, I hear its dead boring....sorry bout that awful pun[:$] As an aside still loving your work Dee!
