  1. Noticed a bit of damage to the MF01X where the prop shaft mounts to the chassis. I must've done it putting the screw back in with a bit too much effort after installing a different servo. A bit annoying that I'll have to get a new chassis part and rebuilt the front end because of it but at least I caught it before the prop shaft came loose and possibly caused more expensive damage. I have been looking for an excuse to buy another Jimny kit for a new body. Or two.
  2. Decided to tick another job off the list today so I put the aluminium mounts in the XV01. It wasn't until after I'd finished and put it all back together I remembered I still have to install the sway bars.
  3. Yup, I've had the gear diff gearbox in my parts bin for at least a year or two waiting for me to get around to upgrading the FF03. I've had a look through your FF03 builds and they've really good. I think Mokei hinted that there might be an FF03R re-release at some point last year, so I've been holding off spending too much but now I'm wondering if I might need an on-road and a rally FF03 too.
  4. I was going to add sway bars and the gear diff to start with. Finding bits like the spur gear mount is getting harder so I'm debating how much to do with the chassis.
  5. Dusted off the FF03 chassis to replace the kit pinion. Took everything apart and checked it since it was the first car I built a few years back, but nothing was out of order. I just need to get a new receiver for it (after stealing it for another car) and it should be good to go again. Definitely needs a few upgrades but I'll hold off from diving into that rabbit hole for now.
  6. Pinion day today. Steel pinions for my cars still running the soft aluminium ones. I want to get every car running in the next few months. That means servos, ESCs, and receivers instead of blue aluminium and shiny new kits. I don't see myself being that responsible but I'll pretend.
  7. I forget what I paid for mine, I think they were slightly cheaper at the time, but they've been very good. Like all good tools, after a couple of years you forget how much they cost and enjoy the quality (or just the perception of it maybe).
  8. A bunch of upgrades for the XV01 I've been meaning to get for quite some time. Went with the Yeah Racing mounts over Tamiya since they were significantly cheaper. Just need a new servo now. I'm thinking a Savox 254MG but I need to measure first since the XV01 has a very tight servo compartment.
  9. That won't work. It's essentially just a clear paint that dulls the shiny exterior of the body when you peel off its plastic wrap. Spray it inside and it probably won't do anything but cost time and money. You want to mask off the windows and lights, then spray the exterior to remove the glossy plastic body shine rather than the PS paint itself being shiny (PS paint is actually all a matt finish rather than gloss). I don't think PS49 would be a good idea either. It's very light and, while this isn't my truck, I think it looks very different to what you're after. I find it is better to look up photos of people's vehicles after using a particular paint than relying on Tamiya's colour chart. One thing to keep in mind is that you can buy new Land Rover bodies. Rather than trying to get a perfect and complicated job done on your first try, maybe keep it simple to gain some experience and then later on get another one you can get a bit more adventurous with. The Build Tips forum is a good spot to get some information on prep and painting.
  10. Sold the M06 chassis today. It was a nice surprise to sell so quickly since I had thought I'd probably end up with it gathering dust until I eventually figured out something to do with it. I've also rebuilt my front XV01 diff using the guide on TheRCRacer: https://www.thercracer.com/2013/07/how-to-build-perfect-tamiya-gear-diff.html I decided to leave the rear diff as it is since it hasn't leaked (yet). More XV01 bits are on their way before I rebuild the chassis.
  11. I've started pulling apart the XV01 in preparation for summer. First job is to remake the diffs. The front diff had leaked everywhere. I've finished cleaning that up today. The rear one is perfectly fine and I'm tempted to leave the it as-is. I also put my M06 up for sale recently and while I had a dozen people watching, nobody was willing to buy it. I'm not surprised since M-chassis racing seems to be either M05 or M07 based here. Owning the M06 seems a bit redundant since I'd now rather spend money on an M08.
  12. The XV01. I really don't understand why Tamiya went with the the underside battery. Two tiny screws that get the heads filled with dirt, then there's the o-rings they have on the other side of the screws but are ridiculously small and easy to lose. The design ends up limiting the servo, the ESC and receiver room, while requiring the aerial to be awkwardly fed through the battery compartment. All because they decided they either didn't want people to have to remove the body or they wanted to protect the belt in the most awkward way possible.
  13. You could take a can of PS3 Light Blue and a can of PS32 Corsa Grey, slowly decant them into a single container until you can work out the ratio to get the right colour, then use a brush to paint inside the body, assuming you don't have access to an airbrush which would be much easier. This also assumes those colours would work out. It could take a few different cans and some experimentation. You could use non-PS paint since there's a wider colour selection, but it won't stick properly so you'll end up with it flaking or peeling off. For spray paint there's AS19 Intermediate Blue: https://www.tamiyausa.com/shop/spray-aircraft/as-19-intermediate-blue-usn/100ml-spray-can/ For hand brushing I think XF18 Medium Blue looks close: https://www.tamiyausa.com/shop/acrylic-paint-flat-mini-10ml/acrylic-mini-xf-18-medium-blue/10ml-bottle/ One trick I've seen other people do is to paint the body on the outside with a base PS colour, like white, and then use a non-PS paint over the top. I have no idea how well it works in reality as it will show up any runs, etc in the paint. Personally, I'd just paint it in something close enough like PS3 Light Blue but it's not impossible. There may be a better colour match from another brand if you can find it. Good luck.
  14. Yeah, I'm using Firefox too. I just did a fresh install yesterday and I haven't had the same problem anywhere else so I'm not sure what could cause it.
  15. The same thing happens with me. All videos look like they're from a cellphone (even ones I've previously seen that were normal). I had assumed I had done something in my desktop browser and hadn't looked into fixing it.
  16. Took the CR01 out for a quick jaunt around the garden and newly mowed lawn since the sun is shining today. The cat is not a fan but watches it from a safe distance. It has the turning circle of Jupiter with both diffs locked. I really need to find somewhere to give it a proper workout.
  17. Mighty Ape have them on sale at the moment for a decent price. My willpower is holding out for now but it'd be easier for me if everyone else bought them all up.
  18. The mighty Tyco Hopper was my first car. These were branded under number of different names from what I can gather. All I really remember of it is that it had a switch on the back for low or high speed and that I spent forever charging up 8 AA batteries to drive it around for probably about 5-10 minutes. I still like the look of the body and I think this is the car the makes me believe that buggies should be rear wheel drive.
  19. Have you thought about mounting the body posts closer to the front? If you mount them through the front bumper it might be a bit more stable at speed. Just a guess on my part though. Never taken a TT02 up to the speeds you're getting.
  20. I think I struck it lucky, but there were a few watchers within minutes of putting it up so it could be a good time to sell with summer approaching. I sold the chassis without a body or electronics so that kept the price down. If there's one rule, it's that New Zealanders are cheap.
  21. That's a tempting deal. I'll have to think about buying one for several weeks and then regret it when they sell out.
  22. Sold my CC01 chassis this morning after putting it up for sale late last night (Bronco body is now on my CR01). Goodbye CC01. I hardly knew ye. I didn't expect it to sell straight away and now I'm wondering if I underestimated demand for it. Ah well, at least it's sold and I can start thinking about buying a buggy. Immediately looked for a TT02B MS and they're now discontinued. I'm wondering if it's cheaper to build a custom TT02B MS from hopups and spares rather than buying a kit and not using most of it. Time to get prices and break out the spreadsheet.
  23. I happily accept charitable donations. I'm trying to not spend money at the moment but whenever there's a sale on something I know I'll need in the future, like paint, I start saying to myself it would be criminal not to buy it now. Next thing I'm adding extra tyres or hop-ups. I want to only run what I've got but the siren song of the Super Astute is calling my wallet to smash itself on the rocks. Buying kits is just a necessary expense of the hobby.
  24. Interesting that the stock kit comes with a 16T pinion. I had thought that they would use maybe a 20T or higher for the stock kit, which is typically going to be faster than is actually useful off road, and then enable people to slow it down for trail driving with a 16T. They're definitely sticking with the old tyres for now by the looks of it. Re-using the CR01 metal driveshafts too. I think I've managed to talk myself out of buying the G500 model. I'll wait and see what comes next and what hop-ups become necessary.
