  1. If you look at the manual you can figure out where you draw the line to paint up to in the blue and the white, If I remember rightly the door handle is one point you can use to register where the line should be... You're right it's easier to place the decal and paint underneath. for best results you'll want to have mostly white underneath the decal with the blue just under one edge. Have you the decals or do you just want to paint the shell first?

  3. Man, that's incredibly shocking that she just got rid of them, perhaps he should tell her the value and make her pay it back out of the allowance that chances are come out of his pocket anyways... I hope he doesn't get too committed to her, I mean childrenwise, will she chuck out their prized possessions too? Sounds selfish to me... My wife said she could handle 100 cars, as i close in on that number we shall find out what happens, I somehow doubt that even car number 101 one will mysteriously vanish to the tip...

  4. I don't think yours is a one off and the dimple on the roof is present in every one I've come across and I've bought quite a number of them. I used the Tamiya white putty to fill them and it sanded back nicely... not as easy back in the day but I guess our standards or desired finish have also gone up somewhat since we were a teen!

  5. Thanks for your replies :) All sorted now, page 18 did the trick, surprisingly i didn't even flick through my GH2 manual... Yup GH Super G had the bright yellow wheels, they seem to be hard to find now... I think mine will have it's Super Hornet Orange rims for a while yet... Does anyone have the yellow ones for trade?

    cheers

  6. Hi, I'm building a Grasshopper Super G but can't find the instructions or the additional insert to make the changes up from the GH2. Does anyone know the setup on the rear? Does it have the Hornet Ball ends on the Short CVA's? Also did the Super G version have different coloured dayglow wheels, were they all yellow or did green accompany some kits too?

    cheers

  7. Well Hello! I guess you could say I've been kinda swamped to say the least! I did make it back over for a long weekend over the 19/20th but my chores for moving back to NZ destroyed me and ended up having no spare time  We were finishing our apartment stuff off and moving our possessions around melbourne to take them back with us. You should have seen how loaded down we were in the end with the number of bags/boxes and mountain bike coming along for the flight. Monumental and glad we managed to make it back together! I must have taken about 5 RC cars back with us too

I'm stoked Alex suggested a gathering in my honour, that would be cool altho I'd rather be there! I could make a trophy if you guys wanted to set up an annual "BeetleLovers Cup" meet! We are just about to have our first inaugural New Zealand TC meet on the 9th and 10th of April, a good number of TC'ers will be coming and from good distances around the country, can hardly wait!!!

I hope to be back on the Forums regularly soon as we get our new flat together and an internet account!

    cheers guys

  8. Cool, thread... really enjoyable read. I must have been about 9 or 10 (85-86) when I received my first RC car, was a Tandy Turbo Leopard with the 8AA's that took all night to charge and then most of the next day cause the charger only held 4 batteries. It lasted a few weeks until the front went under a fence and broke the front suspension uprights. Maybe a year later my Grandparents brought me back a Turbo Fox which was larger and for a Toy grade car on the double AA's again it went reasonably quick when you were in the high speed gear and in Turbo. In 1987 Tamiya was the talk of the school amongst the boys. A friends parents had split and his dad bought him a gift to compete with mum's affections etc, a Tamiya Fox... boy was I jealous, couldn't get over how big they were compared to what I had been used to. Another friend's brother had a Boomerang and a Nikko Dictator too, liked them a lot also. Anyway's I just wouldn't shut up about Tamiya's and how much better they were than my previous 2 cars. In Xmas of 1988 I was very lucky to receive a Tamiya Falcon with Acoms gear, batteries and lead etc... The funny thing was Xmas day came and went and I got very few gifts and so I was very disappointed. The next day I was asked to fetch something from outside and when I came back there beside the xmas tree was the goodies! The local model store had been closing down and so all the cars had been reduced in price... I had been talking a lot about the Falcon but in hindsight I wish I'd talked of Supershot or Porsche 959 instead, they'd been in the shop too! My step father helped me to assemble it and he did the painting, he was a very good model maker etc so the paint job was immaculate. On the first run we were both stunned with what the thing could do, very very exciting as an 11 year old. A week later we arranged to go to the park to give it a good run, moment's later another Falcon joined in the fun, I was amazed. Turned out my step father had gone back and bought one for himself as he liked it so much! We raced them for a couple of years together before I eventually sold my one and came home with a Monster Beetle about xmas 1990.

  9. Yup, I'm all good, Kelly and I are in the North Island far from Christchurch but boy will this earthquake impact on the rest of NZ. It's looking pretty dire down there with 300 people missing and death toll up to about 75 B) Australasia is having a shocking start to 2011. Come in Del, we hope your friends and family are you safe and that your home is out of harms way. Christchurch has many beautiful old historic buildings, I've never been there but I'm sure when I eventually do it will have lost it's landmarks and a whole bunch of it's innocent citizens :)

  10. I just sorted out my showroom by the most views, it's nice to know many of my entries which include people in the 1st picture are towards the top of the list of most viewed. We're all interested in the cars but also very curious to know what others look like and developing friendships with others who are as mad on these things as we are...

Try listing your collection by most viewed, is it true of your collection that entries with people in them seem to have more interest...

    Could be Interesting...

  13. Don't have your dye boiling, water should be off the boil and a bit cooler, have destroyed a nice pair of Monster beetle rims trying to get the tyres off in a boiling pot of water. They were warped completely and went into the trash, the gold was perfect too ;)

  14. The problem with dishwasher as someone has pointed out is the detergents... The powder/tablets that are really good at cleaning contain caustic chemicals, really good for cleaning plastics and wipes out grease etc but when it comes to metals (those not stainless) it will corrode the metal, hense the chalky residue or turning things black - tarnishing... Absolutely do not put in chrome plated rims unless of course your want to strip them back to plastic. If I were you I would not put my SRB bits in the dishwasher you're asking for trouble... even if you were to rinse them thoroughly etc they will always be more prone to deteriorating over time and the residue is hard to remove from all the crevasses etc.
