  1. In terms of dampers, the original has the yellow CVAs of course which are a little tatty and in need of a rebuild. I could rebuild these but I have another idea. I don't want to go for Hi-Caps because I want to stick with the originals but the yellow doesn't work with my proposed new colour scheme which is Red and Black (more on that later). So my ideal is this... Sticks with the original CVA theme but upgrades them and gets me shiny new dampers that work as smooth as silk. Yes I know it's not quite original and I did debate the grey versions from the Super Astute but I think I want black.
  2. First thing required was a new chassis plate. The old one was okay but scratched and I want to create the best model I can. The idea is to try to improve on the original but stick to its basic design. So I want to use almost all Tamiya parts, not aftermarket and use original Astute chassis parts, arms, etc, all in their over-engineered glory. But I want to make the car more durable. It'll be a shelf model when finished but I want to use it occasionally indoors just to experience it. So I bought this chassis plate below. It looks different to all the others I've seen? The weave is much more visible - all previous plates I've had have been almost black. Can anyone comment on it?
  3. Hi all, So I bought an original Astute some time ago because I always wanted one, but before I really knew much about them. I have subsequently discovered that my model had been modified with the Madcap lower arms and c-hubs, which whilst making it more robust wasn't really what I was after. Below are the before shots of the model before my restoration.
  4. Hey I have a Re-Re Dynastorm and an Astute that I've rebuilt (original not super). I don't have any spares for the Dyna but I've got a few bits for the Astute. I've given one each of the C parts to a friend to create a 3D model as I'm thinking about having some made in a stronger material. Don't think I've got anything you want basically but if you'd consider parting with the Super Astute arms I'd be very very grateful. I have a very sick looking chassis and debating restoring it but to be honest if I can't get the arms then that really kills the project. I will be posting my original astute resto soon...
  5. Nobody? Does anyone have any spares squirrelled away? I'm going to do a ground up rebuild of a chassis I bought and I have a few interesting ideas I want to incorporate but I want to build a clean shelter that I'll run gently from time to time.

Wow, I have a Sand Viper with quite a few hop ups and I've always wanted to do something like this! The carbon fibre chassis is awesome and I can't wait to see your design for the upper deck!
  7. Did you finish off the new body in the paint scheme you were talking about?
  8. It's most likely a dry soldered joint. As the electronics warm and expand the joint is made but at first you have a very intermittent connection. You could really the solder if you wanted, that might fix it.
  9. Hi all, Bought a 'fixer upper' - what are the chances of anyone having some replacement good arm sets I could buy. I want to replace both front and rears. Cheers
  10. So after a slight miscommunication it seems I am still in desperate need of a single C3 front knuckle steering arm to complete the plastic parts I need to start this. Can anyone help with this part? Can anyone help? I need one measly C3 front knuckle! Help! Alternate question - what's the closest equivalent to the Astute C3 upright that will fit the original Astute C-Hub and give the same wheelbase? I can see the F103 part but that had the axle at 0mm offset so won't give the correct wheelbase. Update - I've measured the one C3 part I have and it seems to have a 5mm wheel offset. There is a tuning part for F103 I realised which has a 3.5mm offset so will give me a slight 1.5mm wheelbase increase. Is there anything closer which has the correct 5mm offset? Or did I measure the astute part wrong!
  11. Love the super astute, what is the white front bulkhead on that? And is the chassis plate original?
  12. I ordered those parts too then. Once I get everything I'll assemble the new original suspension from the best bits of all the parts I have... are there any other bits from the hubs which didn't change between astute and super astute?
  13. Thommo are these definitely the same parts between Astute and Super Astute? I assumed they were different?
  14. Hey snappy - unfortunately it's cracked / split in a couple of places at the front where the front mounting post pokes through so I don't think you'd be interested in it.
  15. OMG I just had a partgasm! Those bits look awesome - PM me the price you want and postage! I'll try to take a pic of the car as it is so far and post it up.
  16. Brilliant, can I get those parts from you - PM me your price. On the C2 where is the hairline crack and is it usable? Could it be glued so it can be run gently (e.g. On an indoor floor). T3garett is helpful me with other parts and a lot I can get from eBay, etc, but it's the C tree plastics that are almost mythical so if I can get these from you, that's the priority. I have the manual so I'm working through all the parts I need using that. I also have. I also have a base car which has the madcap front and rear suspension setup fitted. Also I already have two B parts trees so I have the front and rear arms I need. The bit I still really need (with all the offers I have) is one more C1 piece, if anyone can help? Or another complete front hub assembly. Thank you!
  17. Thommo thank you for the offer. Do you have any of the other C tree parts? C1 ND C3?
  18. OMG! To be clear It's the original Astute, not super astute parts I require. I'll put together a list and PM you but the big one really is the C parts trees, two off! If you have these trees my mind will melt! 😊
  19. Tamiyabigstuff I think you might be right. To be honest I'm not holding out much hope and it's worse because I need two trees to get both sides. As I said, I'll also use used parts if anyone has the hub assemblies and failing that I'm also on the look out for complete astutes and I might turn my car into a vintage runner since it has the madcap conversion which is better for running anyway. Just that for a shelfer, I want it in its original over-engineered glory!
  20. Thanks Max, I hope so, although I know how rare these C parts trees are. As I said, used parts would be fine! Rob
