  1. I'm not a Harley guy in any way, shape, or form... but your H-D theme builds are awesome. Very nice work!
  2. Arrived yesterday: A Tamiya Super Clodbuster tools bag (I wanted the Ceramic Grease tubes and the rubber tubing) and a body mount hole reamer from Amazon, and a set of old-school Trinity Matched Madness motors from a sale on another forum. I already have a set of these motors in my Clod, so these are spares... or something to use in a future project - the WT-01 Amarok keeps calling my name for some reason...
  3. I wanted one of those BADLY when I was a teenager; every time the Tower Hobbies catalogs showed up in the mailbox I'd add up what it would cost me to build a "street rocket" version... and every time I realized I couldn't deliver enough newspapers to afford it the way I wanted it. If Kyosho re-re's the T.O.M.SE, I might just be forced to hide the purchase from the wife somehow.
  4. CRP 1622 - a pair of upgrade rear shock mounts for my Blackfoot resto-mod.
  5. ^^This. Emphasis added by me. I also like the old military saying (that has unfortunately been adopted by the extreme "preppers"): "Two is one, and one is none". I've actually got a few vintage parts trees, bought in the late '80s/early '90s for my Clod and Blackfoot, in my box of RC stuff [Which reminds me - I need to get that stuff out of the 25+ year-old cardboard box and into a proper storage container!]. I'm sure there's an item or two missing from each of those trees, as I didn't have the money back then to just buy random parts trees without actually needing to replace something... but on the plus side, I know I have a spare OG front shock tower for my BF, and a full set of spare ladder arms for my Clod, plus some other bit-piece parts on those trees.
  6. A Hobbywing Quicrun 1060 ESC. Originally bought it for my OG Blackfoot resto-mod, but it may end up in a yet-to-be-purchased Mad Bull for my daughter. I'll probably get another one for my BF. I cannot believe how tiny and inexpensive these things are! I was telling my wife this afternoon about how the Novak 610RV I bought for my Clod 27 years ago is bigger, more expensive, not waterproof, and (if the 'net hearsay can be believed) significantly less efficient.
  7. Thanks for all the input! The Grasshopper in my current fleet is... well, calling it a "basket case" would be charitable. It was in pieces and missing parts when I acquired it in a trade 25 years ago, so getting it up and running in my potentially-short timeframe is questionable at best. After a quick search, I think you're all correct - a Mad Bull looks to be a better choice for what I need right now. Looks sturdier than a WT01 chassis (which looks pretty sturdy itself!), and definitely simpler. I also got the wife's buy-in with barely any need for convincing, which is crucial since my assistance will be limited to Facetime/Skype at best while I'm away. Price is better as well. Bonus points - fast build time means my daughter will have less chance of getting bored, as this is to be a daddy-daughter project. I'm thinking a crawler motor (with a Robinson steel pinion) to keep things a little slower at the start will be helpful. I'll have to do some research for oil shocks and something to tighten the steering up a bit... and that will probably be about it.
  8. - FastEddy bearing kit for my OG Blackfoot resto-mod. - Vintage JG rear wheel adaptors to run Big Bear tires & wheels on the BF (the matching JG front axles are still in the mail from another eBay vendor). I had a set of these adaptors BITD, but they're no longer in the boxes with the rest of my RC stuff from 20+ years ago.
  9. Hello all, returning to the RC scene after a 20+ year break. I just recently started acquiring new/NOS parts to rebuild my original RC fleet (Blackfoot, Clod, and Grasshopper) for my 7 year-old daughter and I to have some fun with, but a change in my employment status means I'm likely to spend the rest of this year away from home. The Blackfoot is currently the closest to being rebuilt, and the easiest to reassemble, but I don't think it's the best choice for my wife & daughter to keep running for the better part of a year with little-to-no maintenance. I had intended to get her a truck of her own later this spring after doing a bunch of research on my own, but now that my timeline is potentially much shorter, I'm just gonna ask for advice. My requirements: Low maintenance - as low as possible (my wife will be the "mechanic", and she's not the mechanic type... even though she's married to one) Quick build and setup - I'm not sure yet how much longer I'll be home, but it's not likely to be more than a month Strong enough to stand up to a 7 year-old running it into things repeatedly, until she gets the hang of driving it Not afraid to get wet (snow, mud, puddles, garden hose for cleanup) Based on some Google-ing tonight, I'm currently thinking about a WT01, either the Amarok or the Bush Devil. I like the looks of the Amarok better, but I think the narrow track width might be detrimental to a new driver. Mods will be limited to bearings, oil shocks with the appropriate mounts, and whatever needs to be done to waterproof the gear. Radio will be a Flysky FS-GT2 (B or E), batteries will be NiMH. I'm looking at the Savox 0231 servo, but I'm not crazy about some of the comments I've seen regarding its durability and their customer service. My questions: Is the stock Tamiya ESC waterpoof? I've got a Quicrun on the way that was to be for my BF, if the Tamiya isn't waterproof... Is the stock motor too fast for a 7 year-old driver; i.e. should I be thinking about a higher-turn motor? Will the stock motor put up with water intrusion, either through driving or garden hose cleanups? Am I thinking too much about this??? I don't mind paying for quality and durability, but at the same time I don't have an unlimited budget. I just want my daughter to be able to bash this thing around and have fun with it, and my wife to be able to merely hose it off, charge the batteries, and put it away for the next time. Your thoughts, opinions, and recommendations are welcome!
  10. Would definitely like to get in on this, for my OG Blackfoot resto-mod I just started...
  11. Thanks berman. In the brief time since I asked my question, I was clued into these SPC Racing batteries in another discussion elsewhere. Cheaper than the Venom, available with Deans connectors pre-installed on 10ga leads, and seem to have a better reputation than the Venoms in a few of the forums that Google led me to. They're also located in PA; makes me happy to support a business in my own state.
  12. Hello all, been an unregistered lurker for a while, and recently "took the plunge" to join the discussion. I'm slowly bringing my OG Blackfoot back to life (resto-mod) as a daddy-daughter project, after 20+ years of my BF, Clod, and Grasshopper living in boxes in the basement. Lipos seem to be where it's at for long run/fun times, but they're a big investment, and I don't want to spend the money and find out the hard way they won't work... Will a 2s, 5000mAh, hardcase lipo fit in the battery compartment of an original Blackfoot? This is the specific battery I'm looking at.
