  1. Deans just look a bit.... shonky. The XT series work very well for me and look a bit more professional. The sprung tongue in the deans connector looks like it could cause issues.
  2. So my lad has got into RC Carpet racing, and it turns out he is quite good (as in, first day he went he borrowed the club car and won his race, is now second in the club championship). He is racing a Schumacher Atom, and although its been interesting helping him tune and learn the car it's a bit serious for me. The Hot Hatch championship (no diff, brushed motors, NIMH batteries) looked simpler and a bit more of a laugh, so I toyed with the idea of doing that. My bank balance said otherwise so I put it on the back burner. Unluckily for my bank balance, I make stupid purchases whilst drunk. I now own a second hand Mardave VRX, which I am trying to get ready for my first race. It came with the settings all over the place and needing a fair bit of work just to set it to stock. Does anyone have any tips or guidance for a complete novice? Both setup and racing. I've been asking some of the guys my son races with but I don't want to pester them too much. On a forum you get to pick and choose what you bother replying to! Thanks, Jon.
  3. Not cars, but my son and I once drove 20 miles to do some RC. Took everything we needed except the transmitter.
  4. You've already done some good fault finding by pointing out that your steering works. That means your receiver is good, your plugs are round the right way (as the BEC circuitry appears to be powering the receiver), so lets look at some other things. Have you tried a different battery pack? Is there a Lipo cutout setting engaged that is maybe stopping the ESC from delivering power as it thinks the cell voltage is dangerously low? Does the flashing indicate some sort of fault indication you could look up in the manual (I don't know this ESC). If you swap the plugs for the channels does the steering still work (when you move the trigger!)? That will rule out a channel having gone down, however unlikely that may be.
  5. If you sell a partially complete one the value is hugely influenced by whats present. Mine sold for peanuts as it didn't have a gearbox.
  6. Did the website make it clear it was coming from abroad? I've just had a look and I'm surprised it isn't more obvious its not coming from the UK, especially with that web address.
  7. In my case (a watch) it was held by customs and wasn't released until I paid directly. Either way figure on paying the equivalent of VAT or import duties, plus whatever the courier charge if they pay it on your behalf. It could also be because they may suspect you have a lithium battery in the package. They may hang on to that bit. Either way I would contact the UK shippers. Get pinging emails around. Beyond that its probably just a waiting game.
  8. What about using 16800 laptop cells? I'm sure you know this already but don't forget to include the ability to balance charge using balancing leads.
  9. Yeah, I do the same thing, it's just the fair thing to do. Another thing I've done in the past is drop in a few extra things I hadn't mentioned in the auction when I pack it all up, it all goes to make a happier buyer.
  10. My son uses this transmitter and its great value, very reliable so far and easy to set up.
  11. Very interesting, thank you. I just like gadgets....
  12. Just out of interest, does anyone here actually use telemetry? I've no good reason to have it, no good reason to need it... but then you could say the same about my RC cars generally.... gadgets are fun.... What sort of parameters do you typically use?
  13. Man that TT-02B soaks up quite a lot of abuse there!
  14. Was this the motor you had to bodge in? I seem to remember it was all hanging together.
  15. Great advice, thank you, I'll track one down.
  16. Antex are pretty good, I'm an aircraft electrician and in most companies I've been to they have used those or Weller. For adjustable irons we used a Weller from RS which was around the £80 mark. However for my own use I've stuck with Antex. Most of the time those soldering stations were set to 330 degrees and then never moved again. As a result I didn't bother with adjustability for my own gear.
  17. Bosch I believe, it would have been VW's own brand had it been a pre 1950 beetle I think.
  18. Good Morning, I've got a TT02 for my Son for christmas but need a good value ESC. I've got a Tamiya Brushed/brushless ESC in my TT02 and its fine, but if there are better options for similar money then I'm interested. The TT02 has a Torque Tuned (silver can, black sticker!). Anyone have any suggestions please? It would be run on 2s LiPo, but the ability to run 3s later down the line would be a nice-to-have feature. We use Lipo alarms so no low-voltage cutoffs or similar are required. I'm in the UK if that makes a difference. I would be soldering XT60 connectors on to match our current stock of batteries. Thanks
  19. This arrived today. I can give Toyolien a 5* seller rating.
  20. I've used the Turnigy hard case batteries and they fit great. 2S and 5000mAh means fantastic run times. I use XT60 connectors but I don't think there is much between them all. Been very happy with the XT60 as you can't get it wrong, easy to disconnect and reconnect and very positive. I guess people find something they like and stick with it.
  21. Got a real RC emporium going, huh. Which cars do you run most often? Would you say your interest is mainly buggies, road stuff, vintage?
  22. Is the TL genuine or a knock off? Everything looks a bit smooth and simplified compared to what I've seen before. Also you might want to have a look at somewhere like Tamiyabase, it has a good encyclopedia type page to help you identify.
  23. That sounds good, and to confirm its completely sealed? It's for Christmas for my son so it can't look secondhand! Otherwise thats perfect, thanks, message incoming.
