Monster beetle / frog gearbox fix - a new strengthener
tamiya3speed replied to Problemchild's topic in General discussions
Just wanted to post that I received mine in the US! About 5 weeks all told. Pretty much what I had expected with the whole COVID issue. Beautiful piece. Will probably be a bit before I get it installed though! Thanks again!- 289 replies

Not gonna lie, I have more than one of multiple kits. I always tell myself it's one to build, one for spares.

VQS (2020) in Tamiya's pipeline.

I asked my LHS to put in a back order for me. While I feel it's not a good value (especially compared to the downright cheap Terra Scorcher at $192), it is one that I have wanted to have I'm my collection for some time. -

I really hope it's a plastic chassis. What worries me is the pricing. If market price gets into the $300 plus territory for this I'd be hard pressed to justify ordering more than one. -

Awesome! What's your take on the quality/fit and finish? -

Unfortunately not. I got mine through A-Main. Discounts aren't as good but I have found their service to be excellent. -

My Tamiyaclub Hump Pack t-shirt! Just back from vacation and it was here waiting for me. Beautifully made, money well spent! -

I hear the dimples for the underbody don't line up correctly, so make sure you align it against the chassis holes and not just predrill the dimples. Screws are philips but are pozidrive so make sure you have the right driver. Pozidrive can be tough to find in the US. -
Not sure on stock. Covid is ruining everything though so it wouldn't shock me if it is causing issues with Kyosho's supply chain too. Let me say, whatever you decide these kits are awesome and fantastically executed. Fit and finish is top of the line (shocks are a pain). I have built a Scorpion and Optima myself and have a Turbo Scorpion and Javelin waiting.

Anybody see this yet? Combination of my other two childhood obsessions! Love the creativity on this. https://www.lego.com/en-us/product/nintendo-entertainment-system-71374

The Turbo Scorpion has a longer wheelbase via the chassis plate that mounts the rear suspension. I believe it can be swapped with the regular wheelbase plate without issue. Front suspension is wider too via the black bar which can also be swapped out.

Chassis comes grey but you can get the chassis in red (Monster Beetle/Blackfoot) or dark grey (Monster Beetle black or Brat blue editions).

Picked up an Element Enduro Trailrunner and a second Terra Scorcher. With parts being so scarce on the Terra Scorchers I'm considering a 3rd if this batch doesn't immediately sell out. -
Where did you order the Tremor? I always wanted a Thunder Tech chassis Clod.

I was dumb and waffled on that deal too long and missed out on the Bruiser. I have a couple but I should have acted on that one!

Trinity actually ran ads disparaging brushless motors when these were out. Stinks Novak went away. I never had a failure on one of their products and used them pretty much exclusively when I first got into the hobby. -
The Tundra is longer and mounts the transmission slightly differently as the transmission can be mounted two different heights. How long, I'm not sure though.
-
I do agree about price! At Tower, you can order a Terra Scorcher for $192 or a Wild One for $219. Pretty wild when you compare the specs of the kits.

RCMart or another supplier? -
Well, better than tower I guess. They are now quoting late July. I think it was late March when I backordered. I'll just have to wait and see I guess.
-
Boo! LOL!
-
Yeah, I worry I waited too long on a Wild One myself. I have 2 backordered at Tower but the date continually slips back. I'm discouraged that they are backordered at RC Mart too which points to low/no stock worldwide. Hopefully they'll do another run soon (along with the Fighting Buggy).
