Nothing ruins your day like dog poo
Kingfisher replied to nowinaminute's topic in General discussions
I've thought about that situation quite a bit. I came to the conclusion that if I ran through a dog pile, I would just hose everything off. I've stepped in it before and think I would rather take my chances with the water hose and not have spend so much time trying to dig it out of every crevice. I'm that guy that yells at people for allowing their dogs to go in my yard. I don't have any dogs and feel that I shouldn't have to worry about dog mess in my own yard. Some people get very angry when you tell them that their dog cannot use the bathroom in your yard. I've considered putting a sign up that says "If your dog craps in my yard, I am going to crap in yours". There's a wildlife refuge that I go to at least once a week. For some reason, lots of people think the main trail leading in is a great place to walk their dogs. The grass along the sides of the trail is pretty thick, so the entire path is littered with doggy land mines. Twice, I have had 2 peoples dogs get away from them and come after me. It amazes me that the smallest people think they can handle some of the biggest dogs on a leash. I fear peoples pet dogs more than the wild hogs or alligators that hide in the woods. I used to talk to a guy that frequented the refuge as much as me, though I haven't seen him much lately. He said that he used to bring his weedeater out there and clean up the edges of the trail just to keep the vegetation from taking over. One day his weedeater crossed through a pile of runny dog mess that he didn't see and it shot everywhere. He said at first he was angry that it was all over his weedeater until he realized that it had sprayed all over his legs and up his shirt. -

I know that feeling. I thought my CC01 was great on trails and enjoyed running it everywhere offroad until I got my girlfriend a Wraith Spawn and realized that I couldn't go anywhere that she could. That gearbox wasn't sealed? The previous owner must have really just given up on it to let it become that way. The paint came out great. Really nice color. -
Very nice. Thanks for showing the pictures. The color scheme looks great.

How much would you expect to pay for a complete carbon chassis?
-
Can you go down in pinion size and test it again? What size do you have in there now?

I'm kicking myself for not getting it when I found it. Here's the link. It all went for $25 USD. https://www.ebay.com/itm/Tamiya-F201-Carbon-fiber-chassis-plate-Wheels-Wing-Parts-Lot-58294-49336-58303-/323428420853?hash=item4b4dd60cf5%3Ag%3AhqAAAOSw01Jbdf7q&nma=true&si=oc%2Bn7P8qC6oJugNVp%2F8%2F%2BDOMlJE%3D&orig_cvip=true&nordt=true&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2557

You could call the channel "RC Kill". or "Rcad Kill" for a play on spelling because the c looks like an o.

I'm glad we didn't get into a bidding war with each other. There is this new chassis kit with 2 bodies if you still want one: https://www.ebay.com/itm/RARE-VINTAGE-NIB-Tamiya-58294-F201-Kit-with-2-Original-Bodies-f1-formula-one/273371253066?hash=item3fa632494a:g:nEoAAOSwLM5bCYp2

Bad news. We cannot watch any more new Roadkill episodes on Youtube unless you pay for MotorTrend OnDemand. MotorTrend took RoadKill and Dirt Every Day off and now all of the fans are angry about it. They now only post teasers of upcoming episodes and want you to pay to watch them. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Roadkill_(Internet_show) I do agree though. It was one of my favorite shows to watch. Ideas for your channel. Have a rotating series of different things for each video. That way it doesn't get boring to make too quickly, or so you don't run out funding for every episode. Example, one episode could be a road kill video. Another could be a multi-part project build. Another could be tips, tricks, and how-to's; and then keep the rotation going with each new episode. For the Roadkill stuff, how about searching eBay for the cheapest most complete used RC you can find and make it run with limited tools and limited spare parts. Then put the car through a series of challenges to see how it holds up or compares to a more superior RC car.

Thank you for all of that info. I saw a 3racing carbon chassis on eBay and decided to wait until I got the car to consider it. Now that I have the car, I went back and it's been sold. I'm sure another will eventually pop up. I plan to run it around parking lots, so it'll still be a fun car to drive around considering its faults.

DT-02 - 30's modified coupe - wheel suggestions?
Kingfisher replied to Kingfisher's topic in General discussions
Thanks. I agree, the fronts look fine. I like the traditional hotrod look, but I don't want to lose offroad capability with street tires. Maybe I should stick to the Holiday Buggy tires and find a set of chrome wheels to go with them. Oh yeah, for sure the rears are out of place. They're off of a WT-01 . I was just goofing around when I put the wheels on. You know, just to see what it looks like. Thanks for the suggestion. -
I came across this on eBay. I had never heard of the F201 chassis before and did some quick googling. From what I have read, it wasn't popular because racing rules only allow 2WD F1 cars. It had a very short production cycle, and not many people liked it due to the limited gearing options and lack of electronics space. Looking at the chassis, it's pretty close to scale to a normal F1 with the inboard cantilever shocks. I chose to give this underdog car a chance and went all impulse on it. It needs wheels/tires and body mounts from what I can see so far. The motor is loose and it has an ESC in it, along with a Futaba receiver that I won't be using as I married into Spektrum. It came with the instruction manual, and I plan to fully disassemble it and rebuild it. I don't care much for the paint work, and will be finding another body to fit. Will any Tamiya F1 body fit this chassis? Compare that front suspension to a 1:1 suspension. Anybody recognize that motor? What about the ESC? I'll update this thread as I rebuild it and bring it back to life.

What does that mean? That they'll throw them in the trash where they could potentially have a more environmental impact versus sending them to you?

Some pics of my DT-02 with a McAllister modified coupe body. I chose this body to use in place of my Holiday Buggy body for bashing since I don't want to destroy the HB body. The color is Spazstix candy dynamite purple, backed with Spazstix mirror chrome, backed with Spazstix ultimate black backer. Looks like a metallic black cherry. The wheel selection is just goofing around from what wheels I have. I don't have any other bearing mount front wheels and am open for suggestion for a set of offroad wheels / tires to go with this body. With the way I have it now, it looks like it's ready for a tractor pull. I may use @Wooders28 idea and swap the front to hex mount for more wheel options. (Haven't cut the body posts yet because I have another body to fit to this chassis)

Original Bruiser paintscheme inspiration
Kingfisher replied to mongoose1983's topic in General discussions
Unrelated, but interesting that they used GMC light buckets instead of the original International front end. -

The GPM bits don't work at all. If you put it on and tighten down the wheel, the hex barely fits into the rim and the wheel is all wobbly. If you flip the GPM part around, the hex fits the rim better, but once you tighten the wheel, it cannot spin freely. It's worse than bushings. I tried getting creative with washers on the inner bearing races, but I couldn't get anything to work. I'll be exploring other ideas or just finding wheels with bearings. -
Actually, I think when they hit the floor, they fall into a vortex and re-appear somewhere across the room. Notice that you only see them fall, but you never see them travel to the destination where you eventually find them.
-
Nice. I look forward to seeing your results. I have the tape, just haven't had a chance to use it yet.
-
Put a somewhat plush rug under your chair. The rug will catch the screws when they fall most of the time instead of having them bounce across the room.
-
The can on the back instead of the spare tire is a nice touch.

I've used a black oil based paint marker when the body lines were pronounced enough to allow the marker to follow it. If you slip with the marker, it can make things ugly. For those with more shallow body lines, I plan to try using the 3M striping tape like what's shown here, though I have not attempted it yet:

That's good. This is a very helpful and friendly club. Welcome back. Looking forward to seeing pics of your builds.

Who did? Grandad S made his own? Is there a thread link? I'd like to see. If it tightens up against the inner bearing races, I don't see how it would be much different than a bearing wheel, other than it has a hex attached to the bearing instead of the plastic wheel. Only one way to find out, and that's to check my mailbox in a few days.
