Brushless, ESC and LiPo #confused
Problemchild replied to Problemchild's topic in General discussions
ha - but its rated for the current draw .... just the ESC doesnt really have any hatred (or turn-ism) against the physical amount of wire within the motor tbh the specs of ESCs shouldn't really state what they can handle in terms of turns (its only really there to guide you to motors that should be compatible as that is how they are marketed). turns are not directly correlated to current draw as wire quality and thickness can play a part on its ability to draw current having said that, RC guidance states i should have 20% spare draw in my ESC but i will only have 10% JJ -

well its LiPo compatible BUT may look for a better solution when i get LiPos (inc connectors) i have a laser thermometer for my road car to monitor temps as its highly modified so will keep my eye on it so much of the info on these BL motors is confusing...... some using T some using KV some 380 and some 540 JJ -

the motor says "max ampage 55amps" though and the ESC deals with up to 60amps (which will have a degree of safety margin in there) the tamiya ESC is disposable at £15 anyway JJ -
Monster beetle gearbox mod - parts now in production!

aw - sorry i feel guides are important to encourage people to try and once they do they will try more off their own back and start to think outside of the box and maybe come up with their own fab solution power to the people!! JJ -
ok - done.... wasn't exactly clear what was needed and why initially and when the DF part number was searched it only brought up the large gear (which i already have) Thanks JJ

I am here you know haha confused then as the Tamiya ESC is rated (just @ 60A) past what the max draw of the motor says here... http://www.speedpassion.net/uploadfiles/downloads/201022516417SPcompetitioinV3_MotorManual_Feb25th2010.pdf JJ -

ok......after hours of scanning youtube and the tinterweb of brushless setups on the TT02B i've made some purchases (i really shouldn't stay up late along with a credit card!!) ordered 1 x Speed Passion V3.0 Competition BL 8.5T (modelsport £34) 1 x DF02 Parts Bag A (modelsport £20) 1 x DF02 gear bag (ebay £6) 1 x BL 4.0mm male bullet set (ebay £4) 2 x LiPo buzzers (ebay £4) the diff parts are on back order with modelsport so hanging off buying LiPo batteries until next month i think thanks for all your help guys JJ -

these seem to be Leopard copies - which as you say are only really 380 motors packaged in a 540/heat sink wrap the Leopard BLs seem to get good reviews looking at LiPos on ebay thats another minefield haha JJ -

thanks i am fully expecting breakages (i habe a full TT02B kit spare) i'm not expecting to drive full speed everywhere - just would like to surprise people in its current state, a drop curb will flip the car anyway not sure if the ebay specials are worth the punt are they? i guess i started this thread to see what people are running brushless and i'm getting some good pointers JJ -
oooooooh - mad bull not monster beetle - apologies JJ

also..... it seems as the diff itself is tough enough but its the end bevel gear that suffers so is it not just worth getting the large GPM gear for the TT02 @ £9 and a metal input/shaft gear? JJ

cheers pete haha i do need a LiPo one if I go there BUT they aren't a big outlay people have been v surprised at the speed of the car already so maybe i'm throwing good money into a few mph more maybe i should see what speed the car is doing as is..... surely there must be a gps speed app for the iphone (plus a load of bubble wrap haha) so (on top of all the parts already coming) i think my shopping list currently is..... 1 x 5000kv brushless (£30) 1 x 5000mah LiPo 2s + charger (£40 or same price for 2x on ebay) 1 x LiPo low charge alarm (£3) think i will try the tamiya ESC and try and work out this metal diff set up (£30 - or £34 if i get the gpm 8 piece kit specially for the TT02) JJ -

good vid and love the colour of the pink one BUT my TT02B MS is already quicker than that with brushed and nimh i'm in the UK - entered the details on my profile when registering - will try again JJ -
question..... as this is confusing me somewhat without more detailed pics so what we are doing is TOTALLY replacing the TT02 diff (4 bevelled gears) with the DF02 diff (3 bevelled gears) and then modifying the bevelled drive gear so it fits? struggling to find the parts bag for the housing - seem to come as separate parts with the casings being #0555104 and all this works with the TT02 high speed spur gear? AND, i'm assuming the front can remain plastic BUT there are enough parts in BagA to do both or have a whole spare diff?? oh - and i have the MS that has the alloy drive shaft and prop joints JJ

rob - fab!! i've seen the combos and they also range from £40 to £200 .... aargh! i've seen the charger bag (fire protection i'm assuming) and modelsport has LiPo chargers from £10 I think the ESC has the low voltage cut off built in (maybe i'm wrong) JJ
