  1. That's a cool looking Mog.. I actually forgot they made that one on the same chassis. It looks like its customized a little bit since I see red springs under there. Do you have a build thread or info on that one?
  2. What you are telling me here is that I need to get modding my Frog for some speed runs..
  3. The ghetto slipper... I remember those! LOL I too enjoy these old stunt trucks. I built a Pumpkin a few years ago just for the heck of it, I honestly had no expectations but its just dumb fun to drive. This year I picked up a Lunchbox to go along with it for me or the kids to drive. One of them I will leave stock and the other will be upgraded. Wal.d - I think you made a good choice, and yes I think you should get you a Box or Pumpkin as well.
  4. Hibernaculum thats a great post.. I feel a lot the same way and those cars from that era interest me most these days also. Although I have owned about everything out there at one point, I slowly started migrating back toward the cars from the 80's - 90's. I am thrilled with all these Re-Re options floating around.
  5. That is pretty sweet looking for the price... if I am reading the price correctly. I'd like to get a Clod Buster one of these days myself.
  6. I bet you have a chunk of money in it. Restoring a vintage to like new condition can be costly.
  7. Yup, compared to 3S brushless performance a stockish Tamiya is slow, but they are still fun. It looks like you had a good time. That is a great place to run.
  8. That looks excellent, you are doing a great job on it. What would that be worth?
  9. This is a great thread because its interesting to read what the hobby is to each of us. I have several R/C's of various brands, but Tamiyas definitely takes up more of my interest and I have some that are built, and many waiting for their turn. Nothing I own is a shelf queen, everything gets driven but some are driven more frequent and harder than others. While I like them all, I am partial to certain ones and there is no telling what that will be. I do like the idea of calling them a "fleet" because to me there isn't a point in owning an RC car that I can't or don't want to drive and enjoy after the build process. Although the build process is something I savor by itself because I do not have a lot of time and when I can sit down and build a project I still feel that excitement to finish it and take it for a spin. I also agree that each car has a purpose, but I do have several vehicles that overlap in their intended function and that is ok because each car or truck has their own character and they drive and perform differently. Also, I think a fleet swap might be fun although I don't have any I want to part with at the moment.
  10. Man I haven't seen a K2-3S chassis in a while, its good to see one again. I've had many a rig built out of K2's back in the day, I think I even have a new K2-4 and 5 version hanging around my shop. I am really impressed with how your shell is turning out and this build overall is really cool. I look forward to seeing the finished rig. As for the electrical gremlins. I seem to recall someone else on a different forum having issues with LiPo alarms with their ESC, but I don't remember where I read it. I would think that new LiPo ready EVX will cure the gremlins..
  11. I am really glad I read this because I found some cheap shocks on ebay recently that I was thinking of buying for my Mad Fighter I am building. Normally I buy the CVA's from Tamiya for my cars, but this time I was thinking of saving a little cash. Glad I didn't pull the trigger yet, I'd bet they are the same and would be a waste of money. I will 2nd the GMA XD series as I have used them before on some vehicles and they have a large range of sizes.. Believe it or not I like the Traxxas Ultra (Black or Gray) plastic shocks also. Although they only offer the two or three sizes so there are not many Tamiya's I have used them on yet.
  12. As Hobbimaster said the motor could have sand in it, and I would recommend cleaning it also. Sand definitely can shorten the life of the motor if its not cleaned and lubed properly afterward. I did want to mention however that I have seen many guys have issues like this with "open endbell" style brushed motors. What has likely happened is the brush wires (shunt wire) are coiled and bound and will not allow the brush to slide freely in the hood and as the brush has warn off it is no longer contacting the comm. To check, straiten out the shunt wire and reset the brush. The shunt wire should be inline with the brush and no longer coiled up, then pull gently back on the wire pulling the brush away from the com and let go. The spring will snap the brush back tight against the comm and it should be working.
