Thanks Tamiyabigstuff, that makes a lot of sense. I know these GrBs aren't very common but I intend to drive it and would like to have it running sweet without making any major mods.

Well today I started stripping down the Celica GrB. There's a lot of old congealed grease around the dog bones and tub axles. Methylated spirit seams to take it off well with out damaging the plastic components. So far so good all looks to be in good nick but I did notice the inside walls o the original tyres are shot (old rubber). Does any one know where I could find some to fit? They don't have to be originals-wheel size 24mm wide x 46mm diameter. I have also noticed some plastic bearings which I intend to replace with ball bearings, should I go for rubber sealed or metal? Any advice is much appreciated as I'm not up to date on modern RC.

So having decided that I'm going to keep the Celica Grb, I took it out of storage last week and today got a proper look over it. My plan is to strip her down and clean it, lube it and check for any hidden damage. The car was only ever driven maybe 10 times on tarmac so I'm hoping there are no nasty surprises. One rear wishbone is broken but I have some spare. Any advice on what to use to clean the plastic parts? How can I get the wheels nice and white again?

Thanks Greg, A very interesting read. It was definitely car body cellulose spray that is readily available in most automotive shops. Some type of graffiti remover may be the answer. There is an area of the shell that I can test on where it won't be seen, so I may give a go.......then again I may leave it well alone and just buy a repro shell.

The rest of the car is in great shape, nothing broken, cracked or missing and all working as it should. Surprised how fast it is, the technigold motor has plenty of go. I think I will go down the repro route and keep the original shell as you suggest Nobbi. My plan is to strip it down, clean and lube up. The original manual is here so it should be easy enough as long as I'm patient.

Well Gruntfuggly It has been done in the "Starskey and Hutch" style by a former "Friend" who thought it would be a nice surprise for me. Needless to say I wasn't too happy but I made the mistake of leaving it that way at the time. Here's a couple of pics.

Ok I have a Celica GrB which has been stored for a long time. Its always been in my possession but some one spray painted the out sid of the original lexan body with commercial car spray paint. Believe it or not that paint has remained on the car all that time and not chipped at all. The question I have is can i rub it down and repaint it white on the outside? Or should I just buy repro? The body is in good nick with only one small crack near the headlight. What do you think guys?

Must try that Butler. check the run time after several charge/discharge cycles and see if they are really any good for general use.

What is the life span for a Ni CAD battery pack? I've just charged and used one SAFT pack that's been in storage for over 20 years (along with the Celica Grb) and it works perfectly. Is that normal?

Here is the car and body in question which I'm sure some of you will recognise, Celica GrB. The car is entirely original, nothing has been changed other than a rear wishbone which got broken many years ago and was fixed then. There is a spare technigold motor, spare rear wish bones, 2 set front wishbones and various other bits. The body is original with only slight damage on the left hand front corner and a missing fog light hence why I would like to remove the cellulose car spray paint. The car was only driven a few times on tarmac.

Thanks for the video Pininfarina. The inside of the shell is painted with Lexan body paint and that would take that off ok but would the Tamiya stuff remove commercial cellulose car spray paint though from the outside of the body? Just afraid of damaging the original shell especially if it's good underneath.

Well guys I've been drawn back into the fold after 20+ years absence. For no apparent reason I pulled a box from the attic to look at my old Tamiya which has been up there for the last 2 decades. The whole works perfect, no damage mechanically, some spares but the Lexan body needs a repaint. Originally the body was painted inside to match the box but my then boss decided one day to surprise me by repainting the outside of the body to match "starskey and Hutch" red and white much to my horror. Now the problem I have is that he used conventional car body spray paints. Is there a way to remove it without damaging the Lexan?
