  1. This is also a Merc but only two axles, the rear box has that gradual taper that is probably most recognizable.
  2. From research there seems to be three basic styles, very few Mercs though, this one has an interesting history, it was an impostor race team smuggling drugs to a port.
  3. After waiting for far too long for one of these to be in stock, it finally arrived about a month ago. Had to actually finish a few things first but I actually sat down yesterday and got some progress. Bearings came in today so the rolling chassis is complete. I did another time-lapse of this one just like the Agrios, changed to a shot every 1 second instead of two. When the video is compiled I will put it up in here. Until then, here is a teaser of the cab mounted with the version 1 mount (its the green thing in the first pic) which as of now does allow the cab to tilt forward. Still need to draw up and print a rear body of I guess a support truck or a race truck, not sure which one yet. If you guys have any good 6x6 subjects to share I would love to see em. Cab is a Mercedes Actros 4143 for subject material. Also to do is re-profiling the front wheel cutouts and design/print off some flexible fender flares and or mudflaps. I might end up making some wheels as the aluminum set in front looks better proportioned to me and are approx 5 mm larger in diameter than the plastic set. Anyways, Enjoy! Tony
  4. Rb, Just thinking out loud but the only thing that would effect the power is either an increase in drivetrain drag or your psyche. Before you open up the axle I would maybe give them both a spin and compare checking to see if maybe the front and rear "feel different". Unless the diff housing is rubbing inside the axle, I would think they are otherwise unrelated. Tony
  5. Lc2 that's a good looking truck, especially the rear view where you can see the suspension. As one who has spent plenty of years around HMMWVs, I had to look twice. Tony
  6. A clod based truck is a must have if just for the experience, especially if a Bullhead can be found so reasonably. The axles and transmission of the Agrios are both derivative TXT-1 parts if I am not mistaken, everything else is quite stout, chassis is aluminum as standard, links are metal, plastic shocks but they are are good as is. When searching for spares, you may have better luck if less descriptive and find more from the TXT, but then I'm just guessing. Anyway, I adore mine, I even grew to like the body and wheels though I have several sets I can swap in if terrain dictates. It's definitely a different drive than a clod based truck. Of my three monsters the Agrios is the one I go for first. Stock motors on 3s LiPo is more than enough power though I too have a 1/8 Mamba X to go in once I need more, not there quite yet though as the truck is still less than two months old.
  7. MF01X shares the front knuckles with the TA cars, maybe we can expect some neat stuff to distill down. I haven't touched my g-wagen in some time due to its modest capabilities, maybe I should dig it out and ponder some things. In fact, just thinking out loud, any extra width could be concealed quite well since the car is so narrow to begin with.
  8. @Prescient I like how the wheels look when blacked out against the black shell. I may have to borrow that from you as a nice easy project. I am curious about any updates on your behind the axle servo setup, how well does it work and was that enough support as shown?
  9. Those monster pins versions of the chevron pattern also come in a softer compound. For what it's worth, I have seen a few videos of kongheads using takeoffs from a trx4. Those are 114mm od as standard and seemed to fit ok, or at least you would have to pick up one heck of a stone to jam the rear tires up.
  10. I second glycerin. It used to be, you'd have to hunt down and restore rubbers for classic cars before the companies started to re-re those parts. I have brought back at least a handful of parts back to useable condition. Also you could try though I haven't, for a car oriented product something you would buy from BMW as a seal conditioner BMW Gummi-Pflege # 83-19-2-449-390
  11. 110 mm is the stock diameter of lunchy and car that use those tires
  12. @wolfdogstinkus I did sniff em' Optima still smells the best to me though. @Hobbimaster In the running vid, I used the Pro-Line Devastotors on the See's wheels. Fun fact, they have the same offset as the stock and TXT wheels when you remove the plastic wheel adapters and place the brass hex directly into the keyway that is machined into the wheels. The PL Devastator tires are slightly shorter in OD but are much squarer in side profile. Thinking out loud here, but what happens if you dial back the steering endpoints some? With 4 wheel steer the effect should be minimal with regard to turning radius. Eventually I will install the hop up shocks as well, I already have them, bought on sale for ~87 per pack from Tamiyausa a few months back. That will free up the CVAs for one of the Clods maybe. Still need to replace 12x6 bushings for bearings on the axles and work on the diffs, in the running video below, you can see at one point where the truck goes up on its two right wheels, both diffs unloaded and the inner wheels just spun under power(in the air). I have a few things I want to try, last resort will be some diff putty. I haven't started my DynaHead kit yet but it seems like it works quite well. Just this year the waterfront in my neighborhood has produced a sand bar at low tide. How serendipitous that I have discovered monster truck in a big way. Stay tuned for the rest of them, just have to do some editing for all four out there in the sand.
  13. Saito2, What are the wheelbases of the Kyosho Monsters? Reason I ask is I still want that Nissan Hardbody in a scale that would replicate the 1/32 Wild Mini KingCab but in 10th scale.
  14. Initial impressions if you don't want to watch the vid are positive. Plastics are improved in high stress areas. After seeing it together, I no longer have qualms with the body or wheel tire choice. Still have some option parts to install once I try it out for awhile now in stock form. I kind of struck out on the paint job. The only stickers on the shell here are the headlights. I have since added a few more as I wasn't altogether happy with the outcome. I used thin coats and never went for opacity on the reds and blues causing a bit of color difference on the roof striping. Next time I will have to pay more attention to backing colors.
  15. I have finally dusted off an Agrios kit that has been in the cue for too long maybe 6 months. Using a Hobbywing 860 dual motor brushed each with silvercans and a 3s lipo for starters. Build video
  16. This is where I am at also. Would be nice if it came with a hardbody also like the Brat and Ferrari F1. However, maybe this is a segway into a rally re-re era. Last year was the 037, now is the Quattro and things like the the Celica, 959 and R5 can make a comeback.
  17. Good eye spotting that. That render is very too bright as is with the pink trim clashing something terrible. Here's the link from tamiyablog for those that haven't seen it Again, as Mokei said above , a render.
  18. @VagabondStarJXF were you ever able to get any actual dimensions for backspacing and dish, etc..? I too thought about some brake disks to hide the 5 screw holes, but then without a way to incorporate a caliper I couldn't justify it
  19. Really enjoying this look into a period Kyosho monster truck. Makes the clod seem quite revolutionary considering they were around at the same time.
  20. The axial BKT set might be a bit less "soooo big" at 140mm tall and 75mm wide 2.2" wheel. Blackfoot/MB rubber comes in at 135 x 50 or so. As you know, Clod tires are big. for comparison the numbers are, 165 mm tall and maybe 100 mm wide.
  21. Welcome. What kit car were you pondering, (please say Caterham as I have been planning one for a year)? I haven't started to build my g601 yet until I finish other projects but I can explain the gearing for you. You are right in your assumption that one is for speed and one is for torque. It all comes down to gear ratios. The fewer teeth count allows more rotations of the motor for each rotation of the tires which translates to more torque at the wheels. Maybe someone else can chime in on that specific brushless motors characteristics. You may find the stock brushed motor that came with the kit to be more than ideal depending on how you wish to use the truck. either way, have fun with it, Tony
  22. I had an RS4, with the 2 speed trans even. Regret trading it for either a Yokomo or a TC3, can't recall which. I actually forgot I had those two until I saw your post. Was the rally cockpit set an HPI part?
  23. Mounted on the car, printing and trying from above came out.. decent. It is a shame that it doesn't really work as an insert. Going to try again as a complete wheel. Some measurements would still be helpful though if anyone can provide.
