  1. Ok. So here is my attempt to untangle and present my wiring situation. Servo for steering plugged directly into channel 1 of RX with no adapter. 104 ESC plugged into channel 2 with J to G adapter. Red and black wire from BEC plugged into red and black wire of ESC red and black wire from BEC plugged into Battery port or RX with J to G white, red and black wire adapter. I know that's one extra wire in the adapter and into the RX batt port, but that shouldn't matter, right? Not sure why the throttle now cuts off when max forward is applied. The set up was working better with the TBLE-02 ESC. Suggestions?
  2. It's probably time to stop being so nostalgic and let the old Futaba 70mghz RX and TX stay on the shelf.
  3. Man I have so much to learn. How do I do that?
  4. I'll post shortly what I concocted. It was working fine for about the first 15 minutes but then the throttle would shut off when I'd apply max forward throttle.
  5. I thought the red wire is what you connect berween the BEC and then to the ESC.
  6. This one: i hope it is compatible. I'm learning by orderin mistakes.
  7. I think I found one on eBay. I'm sure I could snip and solder but I got one with a j black end and JST red end. Just to be safe. Thanks again for the help!
  8. We've got to stick to one thread! Thanks again for all the direction.
  9. It did. That looks so complicated! If I had a diagram I'm sure I could set it up properly. Yikes.
  10. Do you have a part number or manufacture for the BEC inline? I'm not having much luck with my eBay and Google searches.
  11. But if I use the Tble-02 with a receiver that does not have a BEC, no big deal right? Since the table-02 has a built in BEC, correct? And then just make sure that if I use the TEU-104k to make sure I don't use it with a receiver without bridging with an inline BEC, Correct? Clear as mud. Time for a beer.
  12. I think I understand now. The TEU-104k has an additional 2 pin JST plug that is designed to plug into a receiver that has a Built in BEC. So I can use a BEC inline as a bridge betwee the 2 pin JST plug and the "batt" port of the RX? Correct? Have a link by chance?
  13. Thanks for the heads up! So I ordered a TEU-104k darn it. I was hoping it would have less interference with the older RX. So I need to use the adapter you describe between to ESC and the RX as a bridge and plug into the battery port of the RX?
  14. You know what!? Surprising the tble-02 ESC is working out just fine. I did and a little foil shield which has kept interference down a tad. Although, heading to open ball fields or less populated areas probably has been behind most of the improvement. I'll keep this car running on the old radio gear and build the next one with new radio TX, RX, and servos You're right, way cheaper than an adapter! But for nostalgic reasons I'll just love using some of that old gear. Over 30 years! I grabbed this Futaba for the new build: Futaba FUTK3100 3PRKA 3-Channel FHSS 2.4GHz Radio w/ R203GF Receiver. Thanks as always for the help,
  15. I appreciate all the info!!!! I will use the my Tble-02 in my new Hornet build, along with a Futaba FUTK3100 3PRKA 3-Channel FHSS 2.4GHz Radio w/ R203GF Receiver. Not a bad price for $70 with receiver. Additional receivers are only $30. Not bad in my opinion. Im going to use a TEU-104bk with my older Futaba receiver in the first build. I've got an adaptor for that so should work just fine. Do you know if that ESC also has a built in BEC? I'm hoping that this ESC causes less interference with the older Futaba receiver than the the tble-02 might have been causing. I have on order one G to J servo adapter so I'll give it a go, but for my Sand Scorcher or Super Champ I'll probably grab a new servo. Thanks again! You all make getting back into the hobby so much more fun!
  16. Thanks again for being so helpful! I reall appreciate all the help, knowledge and suggestion.
  17. Hey man, hope all is well.

I responded to one of your early answers to my questions about ESC and BEC. Do you get notified when someone replies? I could use your feedback and direction again.

    Thanks!

      HI there Kal.

Yes, I get notified. I'm just not online all the time.

      Have a good one! :)

Haha, zeros probs, pal! :) I like what you're doing with the Hornet over there in the Peach State! ;):D

  18. Mongoose, Isn't the BEC built I tot the ESC? My new Tble-02 ESC does have an on/off switch. There is now no separate battery/power source for the receiver or servos. Power is just drawn from a single source, the 7.2v nimh or Nicad. Isn't that what a BEC is? A circuit that allows for one power source?
  19. So I've been running my old Futaba 70mhz transmitter and receiver with a new Tble-02 ESC. I've been getting tons of interference with the transmitter and receiver so the car will speed off at times. Either there is inference between the ESC and transmitter or there is just too much noise out there in the neighborhood with all the other frequencies bouncing around out there Probably time to upgrade to. 2.4GhZ transmitter and receiver. So for my education would you all give some suggestions for a good set up for a new 2.4ghz radio? I'm sorta partial to Futaba but only because that's what I've always had. I'm open to new manufactures. I plan on build another Hornet and probably a Sand Scorcher or Super Champ so they will be getting new 2.4ghz radios for sure. So whatever suggestions you all have that would be helpful thanks! One other concern, I have several original Futaba servos that are in perfect working condition that I could reuse in my new builds. The issues however is that they are so old they have the original 3 pin male connector at the end. I see that all new receivers, ESCs, and servos now have the 3 pin connection reversed. The receiver is now the male and all that connect to it have the female end. Would someone suggest an adapter? Or just purchase new servos? I did find an adapter that allowed me to us the new Tble-02 ESC with the old Futaba receiver but I don't think that connector will fit into a new receiver? Or will it? Pictures attached.
  20. Hey WillyChang, So I opened up both the transmitter and the receiver. Both appear to be in really pretty great shape, especially considering they are 30 years old. I did clean them up but they really look in great shape. I've also made sure the ESC is well distanced from the RX. I've not yet made a foil shield but will give it go. Do you think that there is just too much other signals bouncing around out there that could cause the interference with such a low 70mhz transmitter? I am going to build another Hornet and most likely a Super Champ or Sand Scorcher. I'll for sure purchase a 2.4ghz transmitter and receiver. Do you have a suggestion? Model number or link? I also have several original Futaba servos that I could use in the new builds, but they have the old style connector. Picture attached. I found one adapter for the ESC to work with the original Futaba three pin female receiver, but can't seem to find an adapter that will let me use the old servos with the mail connector with a new receiver. Any suggestions? New servos? Adapters? Thanks for helping out. I appreciate all the suggestions. Your suggestion about wiring in a capacitor might be above my skill leave at this point. I could do the work but would need to see a step by step guide. The lingo is above my knowledge.
  21. Tires will work but only with Brat wheels, correct? You can't use Hornet stock rims/wheels with the Brat wheels. Correct? Will the Brat styles wheels work with stock Hornet axles and the 5 pronged disc?
  22. Thanks for the feedback! I'll grab a set of new tires and a vintage set of Brat wheels. No need to modify the wheels to work with the Hornet stock axles?
  23. I'd love some recommendations for set of street tires that will fit the vintage Hornet/grasshopper/etc. I've heard the Brat tires could work but the wheels don't look like they will fit the axles. I bought a set of 1.6 slicks but they inside diameter is too big and do not grip the wheel at all. Suggestions?
