  1. That's really sweet Macinnis.

Odd since the motor is sensored and the ESC that is bundled with it is not.

I have the exact same combo.  I got mine from A-Main and at the time I thought it was a pricing error as the other sidewinder combo's were the same price with sensorless motors.  It worked out about $15 more than just buying the sensored motor alone.

I'm really looking forward to seeing some big numbers from your car.  If it was mine I would stiffen the back end up and soften the front as much as possible with a good amount of toe out, lock the front diff and try shoe horn some foam's on there.  If no foams i'd go for these, https://www.modelsport.co.uk/hpi-mounted-tarmac-tire-wheel-set-white-2pcs-/rc-car-products/375896.  There from the HPI WR8 so are much bigger than 1:10 but still with the 12mm hex.

    What battery are you using?

Just dug it out, my mistake, it's only a ORI28125 12800kv motor 😔

Paid more than that too! (Is that price right??)

Yup that's correct, they sold off loads of old motors for dirt cheap a while back.

The motor is made for 1S pan cars but I know that won't get your way!  What you thinking 6s? :) lol

Don't worry at this rate there won't be much left of it soon :)

I just put a bid in for an tamiya F1 car on eBay of £90 but got outbid, it sold for £45?!?!! Still trying to work that one out.

That bizarre dude!  The F103Gt I ordered is the same F1 style pan car but with a TC wheelbase, wheels and body, I had my eye on the F104 but don't think that it would survive long speed running and there isn't much room under the F1 body for the ESC etc.

Rain stopped play (well it stopped raining around 4am, but car park still had puddles), so you can have a rest today 😁

I sneaked out for a run, it was very windy and the car was all over the place.... ended in couple of big off's at speed.  I will pull a video together if the footage is worthy :)

I'll have to wait for RC Mart before the next round :(

I might have to change my plans and try get back out tomorrow :)

Next weekend I intend to do the SRB...hopefully breaking 40mph, and the FF01 50mph+

Then it's time to get the TT01 over the 60 barrier!

Looking forward to seeing this, what spec are the cars and did you invest in a good battery?

I did buy a TT02 (4wd on road car) but wanted to set it up for Rally spec so not sure if it will get given a speed run attempt

I like the TT02.  With the Yeah racing motor mount and Tamiya high speed gear kit it could be made to go!

How did you work that out?

My castle 5700 states 3.5t on the can.

It's black magic and there are lots of variables :)  In most cases 5700kv would be a 5.5T.

  7. That's the one I was looking at, I'm very tempted myself.

I'm just scratching the surface with the gearing and it was the main reason I chose the car. To give you an idea with the 66T Spur and 34T Pinion I'm almost at the start of mounting slots.

The motor is 9550Kv :)  It's on stock timing and no boost on the ESC so there is a little room, I won't be going there until someone puts a faster run in.

An F103Gt and a TRF419x, I intend to take the 419 club racing although it might end up doing a couple of speed run's.

Your's is better :)   I'm gonna ditch the sig when you put the top 10 back up.

Maybe I'll pass after all, go to it guys.

I've been looking for my next project car and I noticed that the XV01 has the same front motor position and spur/pinion setup as the FF03.  It's also nice that it can be set up in any drive configuration, the enclosed battery tray isn't good and it will be similar money but it's got potential.   Did you get a Rally car in the end?  Two birds one stone :)

Thanks Wooders and I'll let him know.  I added the video to my speed run post for completeness.

    DO IT!

Nothing like getting a new chassis to find that all the draws of parts you've got don't fit! Interesting trying to find variants of different chassis parts that do fit etc though.

I did some late night purchasing, couldn't decide so now have an empty wallet and two new cars on the way.  Dam shinny things :):(:)

  9. Sweet :)

Not UK but I found this place after I got mine.  http://www.rcjaz.co.uk/tamiya-rc-models-onroad-car-kit-ff03-chassis-c-82_289_2411.html  They also have the pro version in stock but haven't ever ordered from them.

Tees also have the Civic and I have found that if you use Hong Kong post it usually doesn't come with a ransom note attached.

  10. Here's the footage from the other camera, he needs to go on camera operator training but you can clearly see that there is no shenanigans going on.

An interesting discussion and I fully agree with Jason that things change and that the thread has to evolve.

Regarding the voltage it works for ROSSA and it's as simple as more voltage = more power.  My personal view is that RWD is the most difficult then FWD and 4WD but it's not difficult to drive most RC's in a straight line.  I have lots of other RC's including an LOSI SCT RWD and it's very easy to drive at speed with it's conventional set up. I think Jason's view is driven from the experience of running his DT03 on crazy power with and a setup worthy of Wacky Racers, that can't be easy at all.

It would be nice to see the amalgamated "Top 10" at the top as it fits with the thread title, if not perhaps re-brand to something like official fastest Tamiya's.

On a positive note I'm now motivated with the next challenge and looking seriously at RWD options. It's nice to see the interest in the FF03 and it would be awesome to see a few more on the board :)  Surprised no one has asked how fast the fastest run was but for Phil's benefit I'll be posting over 70mph next time....  get busy!

Can I get some likes for my new auto signature?

  11. Jason,

I must say that I'm a little bemused with the category split, your view on the drive difficulty as a measure is very subjective.

I would suggest that if you want to break the board into categories the only real measure is the voltage, perhaps put it to a vote.

And thanks for the congrats on breaking the 60 barrier :)

  12. 65.1Mph Video and updated car spec below:

    FF03
    65.1 Mph - 104.7 Kmh
    Hobbywing Xerun 3.5t
    Hobbywing Xerun V3.1 120Amp
    Turnigy 2s Lipo 7500Mah 90C
    66T Spur, 34T Pinion
    Contact RC Foam Tyres

Since the previous run I have reduced the spur by 2 teeth, added 3 to the pinon, switched to foam tyres and increased the battery capacity by 1500Mah.

    Chuffed :)

    Maybe need something thicker?

I run blue-tack in one of my drift cars :)  It gives a tiny bit of slip when launching (nice), only downside is that it gets less effective as it heats up.

If your locking the diff a glue gun is the best method I've found as it's very effective and relatively easy to remove.

I made a run with my FF01 this weekend, a little disappointed....with a 3s Lipo, 66t spur and 25t pinion and 5000kv ish motor I only got 36mph before destroying the gearbox (heat melted the counter shaft end caps)

For that setup your down a lot of Mph from where you should be.  I put a the GPS on friends FF01 (just to see :)) and it hit 30Mph with a 4000kv,  32t pinon and a 3800Mah 25C 2s lipo.

Your battery could not be enough C to support the current draw or it could be the ESC holding you back, it might also explain the excessive heat......  What Battery, ESC and Motor are you running?

No, I've nothing planned I was just winding you up about how long these attempts take.... look how we haven't heard from ElDougo, he was supposed to be posting here 2 weeks back with a 60mph run.... life happens ;p

I'm chomping at the bit to do a run but got rained off on the weekend. Since the 56Mph run I've added a bigger pinon, slightly smaller spur, foam tyres and a bigger capacity battery!  I have a good amount of room for taller gearing so It's gonna happen soon :)

I just ordered an M Chassis! lol   I have been reading back through the thread and I love Speedy's car so much I had to have one.   Whats going on with it? and any hint's on M05 upgrades?

I think Jason needs to stop hording dust of his fleet and get that top spot back:D
