How much more jam you going to take out of the speed run doughnut?

I think your most number of cars record is safe bud :D

I still have quite a few milestones to hit and I really enjoying the fettling and the satisfaction if it pays off.  This thread has turned me into to a borderline Tamiya fan boy, at least six new Tamiya chassis since I joined the forum and I blame you for that :)

Any of you on Xbox live?

Wow, your camera guy didn't run for cover 👍

I think it'll be similar to the big tyres I put on the neo fighter issue, not enough power to drive such a tall gear, with drag,to double the speed, you need 4x the power.

He is getting good, I'm not sure I would have stayed still with the car flying through the air towards me.

I've been looking at the data log and I think I need more amps in the battery (4500Mah) although I do suspect that torque is the underlying issue as the motor is only roughly a 4.5 turn. The ripple voltage was just over 2.5v even with the capacitor pack fitted and I'm down nearly 500 Watts on peak power compared to the 94.8Mph run.  I'm determined to hit the triple on 3s although slapping in a 4s has crossed my mind more than a couple of times :)

I've got my eye on your RWD record next ............  :D

  3. A little progress with the M05.  Not been much RC action last month but the FF03 upgrades are my next job and I'm thinking about converting my TB EVO 4 to RWD and having a go at the speed record.

    edit: dbl post

Keep checking they come in and out of stock and it's by far the best bang for buck I've found.  I have the 4500Mah version which powered the TRF on it's record run :)

They are also sold as Giant Power so have a search and you may find them for sale in the US.  When speed running always go for the biggest capacity highest constant discharge possible, it will make a huge difference.

Oh and nice run bud, really looking forward to seeing it when it's lipo powered.

@Granddad Stinky if your serious about going for the record don't bother with the TA02 get yourself a nice TA05.

Awesome, it does look amazing and not to huge actually but a good size.  I didn't really try as know not right time for me, just hope it does not become unavailable later in year when I will be in a better position to buy like.

I was 50/50 but new I would regret not getting it so I took the plunge.  Just need to find somewhere to put it and I'm going to have to cut back on Atomic Burger for a while :)

  6. It's definitely the way to go and I'm not sure about the F104's tyres but I think you would need an adaptor to fit them. The foams don't last long and other than cosmetically I doubt that they would make much difference.  For info I had been using 37sh and have just tried the 42sh, they seem to be holding up better and I haven't noticed any loss of grip.

I would just run a wider hexhub at the back (maybe a 6mm and a spacer) with the 30mm foam tyre to try and fill the arch a little better.

  7. I'm going 13.5T blinky racing with the shiny thing and need some advise on what size spurs and pinions would be worth having at my disposal.  It's a small black carpet track and you can run with any rubber tyres, they also race 17.5t in the same heats and apparently there is little difference in lap times!

I have a metal chassis and different top deck that came with the 419x which is supposedly better for high grip surfaces, is it worth swapping them over?

Any general blinky racing hint's or 419 advice would also be much appreciated.

    Thanks

    mmmmmm  shiny thing :)

  8. Was running yesterday as well, I went big on gearing with all three cars and it didn't go well

I removed the gear cover on the FF03 and switched from a 60 spur/41 pinion to 55 spur/50 pinion. It felt like it was struggling to pull the gearing and had an off at way over 70 (first run) which pulled a rear arm off :(

    20170903_083345

The geared up the Silver Can powered (+3 pinion -4 Spur)  TB04 Evo wouldn't pull over 40.  I think I cooked the motor either this time or on the last run, I will drop in a fresh can and give it another go.

The 418 was overheating with a 66spur/47pinion so I geared it down to 75 spur/41 pinion and it was much better, not getting too hot and doing back to back pulls with no problems.  I got new record in the end so it eventually worked out ok, chuffed :)

    4wd Speed Run Entry:

    TRF 418
    94.8 Mph - 152.5 Kmh
    Castle 1406, 7700kv motor
    Castle Mamba Monster X,  ESC
    3s Lipo, 4400Mah 65C
    48dp. 75T Spur, 41T Pinion
    Xceed Foam Tyres

    100Mph is within grasp B)

Did you put the wrong p/n?

Yup, the ones I have are 42102 and are also hard black coated, should have looked at the picture when I was getting the part number.  Think they were only about £40 from RC Mart.

You can say you spent over £300-£400 just on hopping a car up, there's no shame in that lol.

I don't think that FF03 can take any more upgrades can it?

Sorry Jason, thought it was a rhetorical question. 42 is a reference to the Hitch Hikers Guide to the Galaxy, it's the answer to the ultimate question :).  It's probably closer to £300 not including the electronics and motor.

There is a little room left for some more upgrades, I will post some pics when I do the swap over.

Still adding up the cost you invested into this FF03 lol .... finger tap... finger tap...;)

It took a while but I think I got the answer:

    42

I have some more upgrades on the way for it, the opulence

Lol - That' the best claim I've ever seen ;p

And the contentious item, my claimed to be worlds fastest FF03 at 82Mph

I picked it up of Ebay as a never run stock chassis with a finished Civic shell, you can see from the pics that it's had a very hard life since.

It's a really tough chassis and is very nice to drive, if anyone is thinking about getting one I can't recommend them enough.

    Here it is:

    82Mph Run:

    Crash Clip:

There is only a little more to come speed challenge wise as you have to run the gear cover to be eligible for the speed board.  I have a tiny bit of room for taller gearing and the ESC is still on stock timing but after that I will be removing the cover upping the gearing and seeing how fast it can really go. My ultimate goal is to hit triple digits on 2s, unlikely but you never know :)

And a list of everything fitted. The parts have been changed due to failure, crash damage, the quest for performance and arguably some just for bling.  I tend to go for lightweight parts when available and I try to be careful about were I add weight.

  12. A little bit of progress with the M05, can't believe that I spent so much time cutting out black stickers that you can barely see:rolleyes:.  Body work wise I just need to do the light buckets and add some custom vinyl and she will be done.

    20170828_09132720170828_091437

I drilled out one side of the chassis to fit the 3Racing side tray, it sits nice and flush but the screws protrude too much for my liking. I tried just using some washers on the other side which would have been fine although it would raise the centre of gravity a little.

    20170828_101607

I have some flat head screws in my parts box that will sit flush but are too long at 8mm and I'm sure that I've seen shorter version's but am struggling to find them.  If anyone can confirm and ideally let me know a part number it would be much appreciated.

for the TT02S front end conversion, that's just the longer TA05 control arms and hubs that make that up, correct?

It will still be silly fast on the 66/37 with either of those motors :)  Here's the list of parts I pulled together for a full conversion, It's quite big  and there are probably cheaper variants available.  You can see why I was having second thoughts!

    Steel Suspension Mount set 54634
TT02s Front Shock Tower 54632 (Carbon but  FRP should be available)
    *TT02's Rear Shcok Towrer 5463
Suspension Arms, TRF/TA05/FF03 style (418 arms are 54569)
    Front Uprights 54568 or 51332
    Hub Carrier 54580 or 54031
Suspension Shaft Set 53917 (must be a cheaper alt part but couldn't find it)
Flanged Tube and kingpin set 54075
    Turnbuckles 32mm 54249 1/*2
    Ball cup/adjuster 53601
*Rear Uprights 54570  (also need ball heads and 4mm spacers)

My mate just cancelled on me for speed runs today, I had the 418 packed and ready to go..........meh :(

I have a cheap GoolRC 4370kv motor right now, but plan to get a Castle 5700 or 7700 in the next week or so.

Hiding the pinion sizes wasn't intentional to the picture or thread. I was flipping them over as I was reading them off of my order to make sure everything was correct. I've been learning from watching you guys. I have nothing to hide that you wouldn't already figure out. Based on all of your recommendations 48pitch is the way to go, so the sizes I got to start out with are:

    22, 26, 30, 35, 37, 40, 47.

I love their motors, if you can get an ESC that can handle either of those on 3s it will be truly mental :)

I posted about TT02 gearing previously, the best I managed to fit under the cover was a 55s/37p.  There are also a couple of running videos with said gearing and a Castle 4600kv in which it hit 65Mph with ease and would go much faster if it would only just go in a straight line   I personally wouldn't recommend a TT02 for speed runs as they cost a lot to put right and after they are still not as good as something like a TA05 which you can pick up for dirt cheap.

If you haven't already have a think about getting the Tamiya steering set and look into a TT02S front end conversion.
