If we are doing an outlaw category, the speeds will be a bit higher, they are all held back by gearbox and chassis rules 🤔😁

I do think that it's a good idea to change the Top Ten list so that it's one entry per person.  The outlaw class is already there just no entries yet :)

I might look into these rocket cars

I also like the idea of only 1 car per person in the top 10...like the Street Outlaws. Gives people a bit more incentive to 'make the list'

I'm off work today :)   This is what the outlaw list would look like:

    1 - El Dougo - TRF418 - 85.5 MPH / 137.5 KPH (Video on page 60)
    2 - Phil H - TA04SS - 78 MPH / 126 KPH ( Video run page 55)
    3 - Jason1145 - DF02 - 60.8 MPH / 97.9 KPH (Video on page 46)
    4 - Wooders - DT03 - 59.0 MPH / 95 KPH (Video on page 47)
    5 - Macinnis - TT02b - 57.2 MPH / 92 KPH ( Video run on page 36)

    6 -  MadInventor - DF-02 - 53.4 MPH / 86 KPH (Video run on page 46)
    7 - firefoxussr - TA05 - 52.7 MPH / 85 KPH (Video run on page 17)

    8 - Jupitertwo - DT-03 - 51.6 MPH / 83 KPH (Video run on page 12)
    9 - Lawsy - DB01 - 50.1 MPH / 82 KPH (Video run on page 18)
    10 - S
    mirk-Racing - Lunchbox - 48.5 MPH / 78 KPH (Video run on page 31)

  3. Looking forward to seeing the silver can entries. I would have suggested limiting it to 2s or equivalent although I can't wait to see @MadInventor put 24 volts through one :D.

I also have a few lying around if anyone is stuck.

    I've been busy:

    20170815_133145

I'm not very happy with the Cap pack install as I had tried to fit the Castle pack but It was a total nightmare so I gave up and slapped in an Abisma pack I had in the stores.   I didn't want to go at the wires again so the wiring isn't ideal, I'll probably re-attack when the rage has worn off in a day or two!  I had lust spent the previous hour looking for a tiny part which has remained elusive

Now I need to cut out and prep the body shell for paint, my least favourite job by a long long way..........  meh

  4. First shakedown with the TRF, she's not just a looker :D

    Speed run Entry:

    TRF 418
    85.5 Mph - 137.5 Kmh
    Castle 1406, 5700kv motor
    Castle MambaX,  ESC
    3s Lipo, 4400Mah 65C
    48dp. 66T Spur, 47T Pinion
    Xceed Foam Tyres

    Chuffed :)

I also ran the FF03 and got exactly the same speed as before (75.6Mph). I added 20% boost on full throttle and it looks promising but I damaged the front tyres and had to call it quits for the day.

@Phil_H Dust off your TRF B)

I'm sure you two (maybe Wooders) will swap over for the top spot in the future, doubt I'll ever be top again sigh :(

You've got the perfect motor and a pile of 120amp ESC's, if you don't have one you just need a touring car chassis that will allow for low ratio gearing and your in.  You could easy smash 90Mph bud

    I raise your 2s with a £14 Motor :)

I've got no rebuttal for that sir, I do however have a £12 motor (4 turn Trackstar) in the stores

I was actually genuinely interested in what the next 2s speed is :)

I am looking for a 'do it all' rc car.

One persons 'do it all' is different to another's :)

For me it would be a Losi TEN SCTE running 3s and a 4 pole 4-5000kv sensored motor.  It's rock solid, can crawl but most importantly it can fly    I slapped the GPS on my 2.0 running a 4 pole Hobbying 4000kv, it hits 62Mph and lifts the front wheels slightly under full load.

EDIT: Ignore my ramblings, I should have read your post properly!  Max 20-30Kmh, maybe a CC01 is what your after :)

Wish I'd got to the rear belt sooner!.....melted the Diff and Centre Pulley. Centre pulley seems hard to get hold of, apart from silly priced ones.

It's surprising how such a little thing can cause so much damage.  The counter gear pin popping out on the FF03 wrote the whole gear box off and I took my RS4 apart to get at the two screws that came loose from the spur, there was so much damage that it needs a new chassis

Good luck with the parts hunting, i'd like to see it break the 80Mph barrier :)

I've been looking into a TT02s conversion, does anyone know if it has to be the TA05-IFS bottom arms (51297).  From looking they are the same style as the FF03 and most other TC but I noticed a short version on RC Mart and it has given me some doubt!?

I've got this in my watch list..

    Me like :)

This is the best run from my TT02 (65.7Mph), it has a small tumble so I doubt the run counts. It's running a Castle 4600kv 4 pole, Hobbywing SCT Pro 120 amp ESC, 48dp 55 spur/37 pinion and a 3s 4400Mah 65c battery.   The battery was at near storage voltage and I wasn't able to get decant throttle on so if I do manage to sort the handling out it could be a contender :)

I'm going to sort a Flikr account out. Then will get a few pictures up. Going for a GT3 Cup Body I think.

I think just adding the 45t for now will help...need to order both drive belts and find a centre pulley first (melted it!!)

Then will look at motors/esc's, although I like having a sub £40 set up :)

Be good to see the results!

I've had my eye on the GT3 body for a while it's very nice.  I just got a Protoform Mazda 6 for the 418, it doesn't look as cool but it will make it faster and more stable at speed, you should check them out.

I'm with @Wooders28 on the cheap ESC's had nothing but trouble, although I was thinking of trying a Hobbyking 120amp with the 3.5t in the FF03 to see how it compared to the Hobbywing.

And TRF sweetness, mmmmm shiny thing :)

I don't know, those things had steering that didn't need an arm wrestler to steer, brakes that worked and I'm betting, even a heater!!

(And a bit on the porky side too! 😛)

You got me on the self locking brakes and the heater but I've never run power steering.  I was still using this one as daily a few years ago, it's a 4wd turbo with no power steering a welded centre and rear diff not exactly an easy parker :)

I'm maybe going 2s..similar Kv to yours.

I found a 45t Pinion that will fit with my Spur. So +5t, not sure my Chinese Motor/ESC has enough go to max it out with the 45t

Or I may run the TRF 😲

A 3.5t on 2s is awesome and most likely the way to go for RC's with limited battery space and gearing options but I think a decant 3s setup (5700kv +) in the TRF would see you into triple figures :)  I would definitely give that pinion a try, at least you will know for sure if it's holding you back. For info Robinson Racing do an 48dp, 47t alloy pinion    Fixed your upload problem?  Would love to see a decant picture of the shiny thing!

I'm not sure how you will get the TT02 stable. I found it really hard with the TT01. I even tried locking the front diff, still no go.

Wider foams? I've got some 30mm ones and they will easily fit with some slightly wider Hex's.

Be interesting to see what it can do. Mine was always really smooth until about 45/50mph and then it would just be all over the place.

I was surprised when @Macinnis said he gave up on the locked diff but now I know why :)  The problem is that the front hubs and arms have way too much slop for high speed runs and there doesn't appear to be an easy fix. I tried the steel suspension balls and they made a small difference but I think the only way to get it suitable would be to convert the front to a TT02s spec.  I am going to dial the power back and give it a couple more try's as is before I give up with it or order the TT02s parts in.

No that can't be it can it?

The earlier run he posted at 104.7KPH was a clean run... just like the new 121.6KPH run...in the same run location.

I've just never seen two clean runs vary by that much... unless the earlier run was a trial effort not gunning it properly.

Dougo is a bit like a posh Ferrari owner turning up to an XR2 club meet... and Phil H is equivalent to the maddest mentalist XR2 owner  with 1000bhp under the little hood ;)

Wooders must also be a mentalist with an XR2 on 5s!

Thanks for the speedy board update and @Phil_H is correct with the older set up I actually managed 69Mph but wanted to break the 70Mph barrier.  I geared up with -2 Spur and +4 Pinion and then had several failed attempts ranging from my mistakes like trying to run in +20Mph winds, driving into my mates Jag to the car taking off at significant speed and braking bits to the recant gearbox meltdown. I think there is a little more to come with the current gearing and I haven't touched the ESC boost/timing yet :)

I'm not sure i'd go with the posh Ferrari type  I'm the dude with the 230 wheel HP, 800kg supercharged badword box with parts that cost lots more than the car :)

    Awesome run....

I think its new motor time for me.

    Thanks Phil :)

What you thinking 2s, 3s or even 4s?

I have my eye on a crazy 3.5t but I doubt ill get it.  My 418 came with a Fusion esc combo and when I was looking into it I found that the next model up comes with a 13300kv 3.5t motor, my Hobbywing is only  9750kv!

  14. I was out with the FF03 and TT02 today.

A decent speed from my FF03 and apologies for the prolonged video the run was the first one and the motor slipped on the way back.  I fixed it took it back out, had an off and broke another C hub   I think it might just have the beans to beat Phil's current record if only it would hold together :)    Anyway Speed run entry:

    FF03
    75.6 Mph - 121.6 Kmh
    Hobbywing Xerun 3.5t
    Hobbywing Xerun V3.1 120Amp
    Turnigy 2s Lipo 7500Mah 90C
    48dp. 64T Spur, 40T Pinion
    Matrix RC Foam Tyres

The TT02 was still all over the place and it had several impressive off's but surprisingly kept on going!   It hit 65Mph with relative ease but it's a total nightmare under load and I ended up breaking a rear bottom arm. If I get the time i'll make a highlight Video.

I also ran my RS4 and the screws that hold the spur came loose and caused a nasty mess :

    20170806_181947

It was doing 82Mph when it happened, you can see the motor RPM spike to almost 150000rpm when the spur gear strips :o

Sorry, could not comment on logs.  It's good that you were able to interpret them, knowing how you were driving and on what surface.

It would be interesting to know what value is acceptable for ripple, per cell count, but I'm sure this will be different due to variations in set-up.

With regards to tyre tools, just google (images), "RC tyre truer" and "RC tyre balancer" and you'll see a wide variety.  Foam tyre quickly go out of shape.  These tools will ensure you get the most out of your wheel/tyres, greatly reduce vibration and aid with Vmax.

I also came across a web site that had 40mm foam rears, normal hex fit, if you are interested.

From looking last night it's a % of the overall voltage and there is mixed info on the tolerances. It seems that less than 10% is the sweet spot and anything over 20% isn't good.

Thanks for the heads up on the balancer, I've added one to the shopping list :)

Always interested in new stuff so yes please!

Didn't realise the data logger would log everything, that's quite cool, and we now know the motors are good for some over rev 👍😁

I've been offered one for a good price from castle, as long as I send them my old max pro , and then I'll have import costs etc, so I'm still undecided.🤔

I'm very impressed with it and will be checking the log after every run now, will be nice to see the cap packs effect on the ripple numbers.

I'd go for it bud and would even ask if they could do you a deal on a Monster X!  The prices for Castle stuff in the UK is crazy and it appears to be cheaper to import even with the handling fees and VAT.  The Monster X and sonsored motor from Modelsport come in at £260 compared to Amain's $220 with $30 off for spending over $200, it works out at $190/£145 and they even through in a free t-shirt! The ransom note should be less than £50 saving me approx £65.

  17. 10 hours ago, Wooders28 said:

Like max rpm 114060rpm on a castle 100k max limit!! 👍

I have now made sense of the data log, the big numbers came from the last run on the dusty road where it was most likely wheel spinning at 70Mph.

The normal peak numbers from my usual running spot are: ESC 200f/93c, Motor 150f/65c and 70000rpm with a 170amp current draw. The ripple is a little on the high side peaking at just over 2 volts so I will be adding a capacitor pack but overall much less worrying numbers!

How many lipos are you going to run, will you be using extra caps?

Don't forget to true and balance wheel/tyres, even when new.

Just the one 3s to start with a 7700kv and I did go with the additional capacitor pack.

I just looked at the data log from my Mamba X to see if I am getting any ripple in my RS4 (5700kv, 3s) as I don't have additional capacitors on it. It appears that I am getting some although it's my first time looking at the log and haven't done any research yet, so not sure whats normal and what the tolerances are.  If you or anyone else is able to shed any light on it it would be appreciated!    Also balancing the wheels never even crossed my mind, can you elaborate?

Edit:  Some interesting headline numbers! (shocked emoticon) :)

It's going to be a speed run car. I just ordered a 7700kv motor and a Mamba Monster X (Amain) for it and I'm deciding which Protoform body to go with at the moment.

I've spent more than Augusts RC budget already and it hasn't even started yet :(   But at least I have some projects to keep me busy!
