  1. Good spot on the hills hoist. Yep you definitely need a drag brake esc makes it heaps easier to drive. I had 2 different setups one was the stock silvercan with stock esc and a hpi gear reduction. It was geared so far that it didn't need the drag brake it would just hold itself from the gearing. But I found I didn't have quite enough wheel speed so I changed to a braked esc 70 turn motor and no gear reduction and that was my preferred setup. Still crawled awesome but just a touch more wheel speed when needed. Also run weights in the wheels, just hot glued some sinkers inside the rims.

@Chicken Man she's a beauty! I read about all the modifications people under take - very impressive. It must be a shadow of it's former self under that body. I'd love to see how it performs.

I have a couple videos on youtube of it in action from back in the day. Just wish I had painted those yellow springs and front bash plate black, was always going to do it but never got around to it.

    Here is one

  3. Great fun to modify these rigs, here is my old girl. Wasn't much left stock, extensive chassis cutting, custom shocks, suspension links, gear reduction, servo winch, steering mods, bigger tires ect. Was always a favorite in a sea of axial crawlers on the trails.

  4. All those memories of going to the big hobby shops with dad seeing the tamiya's, could never afford one until into my teen years. Got a second hand super hornet and thrashed the guts out of it for years then moved on to "bigger and better". The super hornet much to my shame ended up in the bin because I mean who would want to drive that with all these awesome modern cars. Anyway years later I see a tamiya wild one brand new going dirt cheap, building that just opened my eyes to something I didn't even know I was missing. Added more tamiya's to my collection since but am yet to bag a super hornet.

  5. Went out with my blitzer beetle on the weekend to do some runs. Started with a 2 cell batt hoping to hit 60kmh and a 3 cell as backup if needed. Well I got my goal of over 60kmh with the 2 cell but couldn't help myself and chucked the 3 cell in anyway.

The video is a bit long so the 3 cell runs start at 7:00 if you want to skip to that. I got a wheel standing 69.3kmh/43.0mph and a 72.9kmh/45.2mph

    Specs are

    3520kv trackstar brushless

    15t pinion

    5000mah 2 cell and 2200mah 3 cell

    stock tires

I had to ream the wheel centre bore hole out to get them to fit over the axle and clear the threaded par, there is about 1mm play allowing them to spin freely, the nut cant reach the wheel face it stops where the threaded part ends and the wheel axle widens out.

Ok sweet I will have to take another look at them thanks

Here's the wheels fitted with the hex adapter

How do you find those adapters?? because if i'm not mistaken doesn't the wheel nut rub on the face of the wheel and cause some drag?? I have some in my parts draw but was wondering if you had some special trick with them.
