  1. Here's a picture of one of the oldest RC cars on this forum. Its my prehistoric Jerobee. I pulled the gas engine setup as it stinks, and I won't allow that in my house. But I still have the stock gas engine parts if I were to ever sell this old dude. The body is 5mm thick fiberglass, and the chassis is equally thick aluminum plate. Its truly "tank" like construction compared to today's RC cars.
  2. Here's a current picture of my modded Bullhead, and my stock Clod. I can't say one is more fun than the other. I can say they are (obviously) completely different animals. The Bullhead is a complete overkill beast. Stupid power and size, with 4WS, and locked 4WD via all steel gears, and larger diameter pulling axles. The Clod is completely stock. It bounces everywhere it goes. It like comparing apples with a chain saw. There's a connection, but not really depending on how you look at it....
  3. I use 3M 10lbs hold per inch tape. They also sell 30lbs per inch hold tape. But that is a real bear to remove! Any home center should sell 3M tape, regardless of what country your in. 3M products are marketed world wide.
  4. I built my VW Type2 today. I'm glad I took apart the tranny, since the *******ers didn't put the bearings or grease in it. So I got all that sorted, and test drove it around the shop. Next its paint time! WOOT!
  5. Yep, you are good. But with Clods you never know until you check. Because they are sitting as new old stock in RC shops everywhere.
  6. You have to forgive me as I didn't read every post on this topic. But my advise is based on if you keep the stock chassis. The steering mods are great. Replacing the shocks, and motors are great. But some of the later Clods had a metal chassis brace, where as the older ones didn't. It mounts inside the center of the chassis to brace the suspension arm pivots. Any real amount of jumping and the stock chassis will crack at those pivots without the chassis brace. Then obviously the aftermarket has their own solutions. Imex has an assortment of insane mods for Clods. These are REAL OLD picture's of my Bullhead which has an assortment of homemade, ESP, and Imex parts on it. In fact the tires on it now are nearly twice that size.
  7. Its sad to say, but that was me in my youth. I had an assortment of rare by today's standards Tamiya's, and I used and abused them. But maybe those kids will learn from it and become collectors, like us. I got my Volkswagen Type2 bearing set in today, and my QX90 mini quad, and assorted quad parts. The radio for the Volkswagen should be here tomorrow. So construction can begin later today.
  8. I really didn't have plans for these buggies when I bought them. I got them to help the seller raise some money for health issues. It looks like the Optima is sold, and this one I'll just throw on ebay since I'm basically only into Tamiya's these days. The same seller has another RC of interest. He has a brand new old stock Bolink Invader monster truck that is assembled, but never run. The factory tires have never even been glued on the rims! I might buy it and see what that dinosaur goes for on ebay. Because they were never really popular and thus are pretty rare. The monster truck was a pan car chassis with pan car rims with glued on knobby tires and a add-on gear reduction on the pan car motor pod. It was a strange setup for any RC truck! -lol
  9. I ordered a grocery list of parts today. Mostly they are Traxxas parts for a relative's pair of prehistoric Blue Eagle's. But also I'm suffering as I found another wheelie cheap online, and I can't bring myself to pull the trigger on it.... I have a personal rule to not buy another RC when I have not completed the one that is sitting here new in the box. The drama's of personal politics! -lol
  10. I did a weekend road trip to Michigan for a couple hobby shows. We stayed at the www.turkeyville.com resort. If anyone is interested, here's a couple video's from my trip: SOTPEA - (Scott's Olde Tyme Power and Equipment Association) video and slide show Mid Michigan R&R - a slide show of trains at the event Cruising with the Mid Michigan R&R - this one is an FPV train ride

  11. I found 2 old cars at a yard sale recently. I previously shared the Optima which was heavily coated in dust. This one is a Losi JRX2 also very dusty! Based on the foam slicks, I believe was used for carpet racing.
  12. That bus looks beautiful in orange and white! I'm going with purple and white, with the stock white wheels.
  13. I got a bearing set and a cheap radio for my Tamiya Type2 Volkswagen Wheelie. I should have this thing running/painted in a week or so.
  14. I picked up some Tamiya brand paint for my Type 2 Volkswagen Wheelie. I'm going with white base color, and purple for the two tone. Then leaving the wheels white. This will be my first time using this paint as Tamiya has a couple different paint types. So I have no idea how good it is. But everyone keeps telling me how horrible the paint that I've been using is by comparison. So to use a bit of US slang, it will be a "Pepsi challenge" of RC car paint!
  15. quote - trying to bring it back to life by charging at .5 You are doing the right thing by charging it this way. I'm 100% confident it will be fine if it was only over drained, and not a different problem. After an hour or so you should have enough charge in it for it to charge normally. Good job by charging the pack the right way, so as to not start a fire. I use a power supply to charge them when they get over drained. Because current limiting is the secret to preventing lipo fires.
  16. This is the last Tamiya video from driving over the weekend. It is my '50 Chevy on a TA02T chassis running around my relatives track.
  17. No I won't chop it up. I might strip off the parts I put on it and sell it. But no I would never destroy it. I value RC's more than destroying them.
  18. They included the dust on the Optima at no extra charge! Then I put an HPI brushed speed controller and stock motor on my Losi HighRoller. Next I'm putting the brushless setup from the HighRoller in my beater Lunchbox. I figure the 3500kv should be silly over powered and likely flip the Box over backwards! Provided the tires hook....
  19. So I added a motor, pinion, sledge hammer shocks, and Tamiya rally wheels/tires. But today I'm thinking I might just pull all that back off and go a different direction. I don't know.... Here's 2 pictures one with no flash. As you can see its REAL DUSTY! -lol God only knows how long its been in storage.
  20. I found what I believe to be a Kyosho Optima chain drive 4x4 buggy at a garage sale. Its very stripped bare. But it seems to otherwise not be broken. i swapped some parts on it to get it closer to driveable. I'll throw some picture's on here as soon as I get a chance. I have no plans for it since it was a spontaneous find. But I might make it into a rally car since the only wheels/tires that I had that fit it were a set of Tamiya rally's.
  21. BOO! Photobucket you stink! -lol I just got a Kyosho Optima at a garage sale. Or at least I think its an Optima as it has chain drive 4WD. I'll get a picture to post when I get a chance. But its missing everything. So I put a new old stock motor on it, and a set of Tamiya rally wheels and rally block tires since they fit the wheels hexes. I have no idea what I'm going to do with it yet, as I was not looking for one when I found it.
  22. Here was my Tamiya Midnight Pumpkin Chrome Edition running on the track over the weekend. Its more "one thumb" driving. But as always, its was pretty fun!
  23. While not a Tamiya, I ordered a QX90 mini FPV drone today. The next thing I'll be doing on my Tamiya's is swapping out the couple brushless motors for brushed motors. I hate how the brushless motors eat parts!
  24. I ran my Tamiya Lunchbox (gold edition) over the weekend at a relatives track. I was filming with one hand while trying to drive a pistol grip radio with the other. But it was a fun time either way!
