  1. That pretty much just hands the sales to Hong Kong really.

in Australia where I live a MAP or minimum advertised price restriction by a manufacturer or wholesaler is basically illegal, fines for a company like that is around the 10 million Aussie dollars mark for trying to implement essentially price fixing.

Our consumer laws basically make monopoly’s and price fixing illegal. There is also laws to protect businesses who want to parallel import products. IE: the direct tamiya importer here has 0 power to stop another business bringing in tamiya products as well and selling them in this market. In fact if a business in Australia makes any effort to stop it then they can land themselves with fines running into the millions.

The purpose is to ensure consumers get the best deal and are not being unfairly treated. Of course a lot of these things are mitigated by people directly importing at low prices anyway.

It will be sad to see America going this way as it won’t help business there in the long run if it’s seen to be ripping off its customers.

  2. Cc01 is a better trail rig than a rock crawler, damping is really a must for rough climbs, if the suspension can bounce you’ll loose traction, simple as that. Unless your limiting your cc01 to about 2-3km/h you’ll want some damping in the shocks. I generally set Myn up for about 15km/h top speed (45T crawler motor 16t pinion) as this leaves room for bursts over certain trail obstacles, and the cc01 really shines when used like that. Still slow enough to creep but fast enough to buzz through the boring bits.

I generally build the shocks to have an internal vaccum (meaning the dampers pull the shaft in naturally without the spring, like they have a air negative spring) and setup slow enough to maintain stability.

The purpose of the barrel spring is provide an initial falling rate (compared to the traditional spring at least), allowing the shock to compress more easily through mid stroke.

as others have said you’ll need to use a firmer spring up front, there is a number of reasons, one is that much of the weight is forward, but more importantly the front suspension is independent and of a completely different compression ratio to the rear in that it has a greater falling rate than the rear suspension built into the design.

While most trail trucks have relatively similar suspension layouts front and rear the cc01’s front and rear suspension are comparatively from different planets so suspension advice intended for other trucks should really be ignored.

  3. 47358 is 2 pairs of short dampers,  (new design)

53037 is 1 pair short dampers (old design)

53036 is 1 pair mini dampers (smaller than short) (old design)

47358 is quite upgraded, the material of the cylinder has changed as the original used to wear quite badly turning the oil into a metal shaved mess quickly (hence they made the sleeved damper), The lower seal mechanisms are much upgraded too, easier to service and  just as smooth. Finally the upper bladder is changed to a more durable unit found in cva v2 dampers.

The only negative of the modern hicaps is the spring color and I felt the rate was too heavy.

in order to get the mini in a modern set, you’ll need to find a set stolen from a egress rerelease. They where not released separately as far as I’m aware.

  4. I have a few of those leopard brushless setups. They are great for the money and have good range of settings via the card.

The motors however are smaller than 500 size internally, and as a result don’t have the outright power one might expect if you’ve been using a stock traxxas or vaterra brushless setup in the past.

Though they lack outright punch and sheer brute force, it’s actually not a bad thing in a lightweight 2wd buggy, makes it a lot easier to drive in loose conditions.

These cheap brushless setups are simply great for small 2wd vehicles. But if there is grip I’m left wanting more.

    also, loving the build.

  5. The front shocks included in the df03 alloy damper set are about 8-10mm longer than the stock df03 cva mini fronts.  Because of that the df03 alloy set will work perfectly well on the manta ray.

In some ways the df03 set is a better option than hicaps, mainly on the case of available springsets. The hicaps are physically wider than the df03 set and are harder to get springs for (although gmade xd springs fit nicely.)

why would that be a bonus over the hicaps? The included springs with the top force hicap set are simply too firm unless you use nicad battery’s and add a little extra weight on top of that.

This being said the hicaps do carry much more oil than the df03 set, and both are very very smooth and a big upgrade on cva’s mk2, let alone mk1. Both options are really nice.

gmade xd, while very nice and of decent quality, are not in the same league as the tamiya options.

  6. These arrived today,

I didn't need 2, but they had 2.. where they are bargain? not really. however they where good value considering they included the TL01LA Sway bar kit (very rare), the stainless hinge pin kit and the adjustable upper arm kit.

I looked at buying all the parts separate and this was alot better value despite paying a fairly high price. (although it was just the standard original retail price for that store, which would explain why they still had them.)

Most of you will know these fit WR02, GF01, G601, TL01, FF02,WT-01 and others, also fits M03/4/5/6 to widen to 190mm. It's essentially TB Evo 2 suspension, just the arms are about 4mm shorter as the TB evo has a narrower diff housing.

    Pretty happy with the score!

  7. I’ve always used cloth tape or fiberglass tape on my body’s immediately after painting/before use to reinforce the body. Always worked very well for me. Never has it come off bringing the paint with it.

I don’t do it to protect the paint. I do it to drastically reduce cracking during impacts. Body’s last easily 3x as long if your a rough with your cars.
