Hi all, I'm 42 and I want to restore a couple of rc tamiya cars that my brother and I build when we were young, and to have fun now with our sons.
My fathers bought in 1989 in Japan a Hotshot 2 and we with our father had a lot of fun building it and running it . We also bought a Mud Blaster too and had a lot of fun with them. Now I want to show that fun we had to my sons and I've loved for that vintage cars that were keep inside a box and in restoring them.
I've started with the hotshot, and as you can see in the pics, we had a lot of fun with it, it had several crashes break the bumper and was replaced with one done with an aluminum tube unfolded,
that broke the main body (note a metal piece over the engine)
problems with the stabilizers arms (replaced with a shortcircuit boardto avoid friction)....
The speed controller resistance had broken the ceramic by a crash...
Engine replaced by a trinity engine to have more speed
the speed controlled partially burnt... And a lot of dust by now,...
As you'll see in the next posts you'll be able to see that the cups and the drive shafts are really damaged by running and need to be replaced.
In those days we wanted to add the ball bearing set but can't afford it, but nowadays seems quite cheap and in thinking on change all of them. If course this remplacent will imply to change all cups (wheels and diferential) and dogbones and here is, by now, my question, I've been reading looking for an actual answer and what parts I need to be running it again. What do you suggest me? What combination is most durable and cheap? There's any compatible somewhere around?
I've stared to clean the front drives with an ultrasonic bath and I'll be uploading pics in a few days.
Thanks for watching and feel free to comment anything. Every advice is really welcome
