    Hi Tommy,

There are a few decent threads on TT02 rally builds (links below).

I think getting decent ride height is a good idea and with that sorting out issue with popping dogbones (i.e. universals in the front in particular).

A cover for the chassis to stop debris getting in is also an idea (kamtec do one) or making one yourself from some sort of large margarine container).

As your sensibly looking to build on a budget within the "Silver can budget rally build off" there some good tips on builds. It's not specific to TT02s, but enough people built rally TT02s in the thread to get lots of good ideas.

some great threads there thank you! Give me plenty to have a read through aswell. I know it can turn into a bit of a money pit but the base TT02 wasn’t really in my head designed for that. Or I would have looked at the better equipped base models etc.

I'll be very interested to hear how your racing goes.  I've raced the 1:8 rallycross cars at Mendip and had a hoot, but when I saw the 1:10 announcement I was a bit torn.  On the one hand, a proper place to run 1:10 rally cars seems fantastic, and with fixed motor rules it should make for some very close and fun racing.

On the other hand, Mendip is a big track and the rallycross cut-throughs are made for the 1:8 cars - I wonder if 1:10 might feel a bit lost on that track, especially with Core 21?  I guess they'll see how it goes once people start racing.  I might even have a go myself if I race in the winter championship this year (I really, really should do, it's my local track too and it might not be there much longer, I only raced my 1:8 car twice!).

As for mods advice - mine would be to see what everybody else does.  Has the racing officially started yet?  The TT02 is bound to be one of the go-to chassis so there will be plenty of people running them.  Otherwise, I'd go for oil shocks and as much ride height as you can get (depending on how they run the cut-thrus and jumps for 1:10) and get a tuned spring set so you can adjust your springs according to your run.

What's the rules on tyres?  If it's a control tyre then I'd hope it's something like the Tamiya rally block, as it's very hard and should make the cars a real handful on the tarmac, which is exactly what you want in rallycross racing.  If tyres are open then, since most of the track is tarmac, I'd run a tarmac race tyre and try to banzai the cut-throughs so I don't have to turn until I'm on the tarmac again.

There’s only been (I believe) two rounds so far. So quite early days and I think that’s why the rules are still developing. It seems at the moment there isn’t a control tyre but the main tyre most used was the ride cut slicks. They apparently did quite well for everyone and last along time aswell to keep it cheap as possible.

chassis wise a few have spotted the ftx roller chassis which is about £80 that seems to come with a few more features already out the box. Turnbuckles etc!
im going to stick with the TT02 purely to see how it develops and keep my wallet happy ha!

im still not sure on gearing yet but i think it will be one of those, turn up. See how it goes. And see what I have in the parts box

  3. Hello all! Been lurking away, enjoying the forum and reading threads. Always enjoyed bashing and tinkering away with a little build. Who doesn’t! My local race club at mendip raceway started racing 1/8th rallycross cars. Looked great fun. But was always a bit out my budget. Until recently!

a new class has evolved. 1/10th rally cross. It’s early days but the rules seem to be rally shell, a 21t core brushed motor, shaft driven, and go from there! Amazing news!

low and behold on the shelf waiting for its moment to shine was a TT02 I’d built in rally spec some time ago. I’d already added full bearings. Upgraded prop shaft. And that’s it!

The plan is to keep Costs right down on this. It’s meant to be a good bit of fun. And also keeps me in the good books from the good lady wife when endless upgrades pour through the post.

this thread will be a little evolution of my first time racing and particularly trying rally cross aswell.

I’ve got on order the motor, a hobby wing 1060 esc and I’ve got a high speed gear set to pop in aswell.

tricks and tips are greatly received on this. I hear gluing the servo saver is a handy thing to start with as there a bit poor. Or perhaps an upgrade!
first  meetings in a few weeks so a bit of prep work to do!

electrics to strip out first and we’re away.

  4. Treated myself to a little Blackfoot build, more so for me and the boy but it’s a good excuse for me to tinker!

my question is will these handle brushless? I’ve got a 60a hobby king esc and a 3650kv motor and a small 2s lipo lying about but wondered if it would be overkill?

otherwise what options are there for a bit more speed than the normal 540 can? It comes with the tamiya esc so a sport tuned motor and 2s lipo

obviously don’t want to kill it! But wouldn’t mind it a tad faster to bring a smile to my face if that makes sense!

You would be surprised how some models clean up.  I have what I call the Bath of Shame. its a little tub with water, laundry detergent and model fuel. especially for metal parts you can soak and clean pretty good.

Ive got a Madcap decal sheet if you`re interested

Let me know what you’d be after for it as it will certainly need a shell! I was very close to selling this but I can’t bring myself to do it! So the project goes on!

  6. I have managed to find this little beauty in storage. 17 turn so hopefully nothing that might not fry the diff!

I will be stripping the diff just to check over everything. It feels a little tight on one wheel,so suspect somethings up! Have seen the Tamiya single ball thrust bearing option.53136 Is that worth while? Anything that improves the durability a bit!

I think at some stage someone’s tried some sort of anti roll linkage at the rear. Interesting little set up!

the more I look at this thing the more I feel bad for not cleaning it up now!

  7. Well I guess a introduction as this is my first post, and a little thread at the same time!

Recently acquired this cheeky little madcap! If I’m perfectly honest I’m 50/50 as wether I should keep it or move to something I know would be happy with a brushless set up! But the lure of a vintage tamiya racing about with a brushed motor is twinging in the back of my head. In fact I found a 17turn lrp motor in the loft!

It will be a work in progress thread and I’ve been scouring the forum for info already as I understand the diff can be the issues on these! She’s quite grubby so due a full strip down and clean up and a good service. Maybe that will make me want to keep it?! Who knows :P .

Body shell hunt will also be on the cards and a few repos have popped up on the good old eBay!

If anyone has any further thoughts or advice, I’m all ears!

  8. Really 50/50 about selling this as was thinking of a little restoration! But also wouldn’t mind going down the brushless route and don’t think this would handle the pace! What you see here is what you will get. There’s no shell I’m afraid! Needs a good strip down and clean up! Located in the uk and ideally don’t want to post abroad. I don’t have a clue what these go for but il put a price up at £40

Please someone buy it before I change my mind!
