  1. Yes, but it is very similar to the cabin Mad ax and Kingfisher linked to. So I may use that model.
  2. Thanks @Mad Ax That's a great shout. It looks like that version could work. The truck bed will be quite simple I think. Thanks for all the suggestions, guys, really nice to have some interest. I think I've seen those conical wheel hubs somewhere, too. They were chrome, obviously, but some matt paint will take care of that.
  3. The ZIL-132. I mean, look how mental that is. The wheel spacing is equidistant not doubled up at the rear like G6-01 chassis, but it looks like it could still work. The problem is finding those glorious wheels and tyres. Are there any body shells with a similar cabin?
  4. What silver paint is closest to that tread plate you see in the back of truck beds and foot wells? Not the chrome decorative kind, the industrial type. It's a bit dull, like an unpolished steel bolt.
  5. Meant to ask before, but this seems an opportune moment, is the character in your avatar, François Cevert?
  6. Could you do me a great favour and measure the height of the cabin roof when on a flat surface, with standard wheels/tyres, please? I've binned my body mount posts and no longer have a reference. Many thanks if able to help.
  7. What filler/putty do you use for projects. I bought some Squadron white putty but is dries far too quickly leaving very little shaping time. It's flaky/chalky in about 30 seconds. Any recommendation for a more pliable filler? Not a very exciting topic for our new board, but there you go.
  8. I understand the general discussions is for anything related to Tamiya, but I feel, not uncomfortable, but reticent to ask questions about the topics surrounding builds that don't really concern Tamiya products, as it isn't really fair to clutter that board with questions about materials, tools and techniques about scratch building RC projects. They would be perfect for The Builds board but it is forbidden to ask general questions there. As there are clearly a lot of people who make and modify their own bodies and even chassis, would a general builds board be possible to discuss all things not directly related Tamiya equipment. Not for other manufacturers of RC equipment but specifically the building process for non Tamiya materials. Styrene, metal work, woodwork and that kind of thing. Scratch building and modifying of chassis and bodies. Those topics seem ill suited to RC general discussions, really. Is that is something you would consider, @TWINSET ? Just thought I would ask as the members here are very helpful and knowledgeable about such things.
  9. Hi, may I ask where you got the diamond plate material? I would like some to line my styrene truck bed but so far have only been able to find very small scaled sheets for model railway builds. That looks a lot bigger. Thanks. Impressive builds, by the way.
  10. Yes, it is strange. In fact I would go as far as to say bleeping annoying considering it took 3 weeks for the tie rods to arrive.
  11. Update of pics for completion Started the wooden truck bed with 3mm plywood that I cut with a small craft saw. Not a very enjoyable activity. I made the entire thing with the same 5 inch saw. Using gorilla glue for all joints. It's a nightmare to get off once dried so their are unsightly blobs here and there. But I have decide that this is a perfect scale recreation of a trick bed made by a very lazy and unskilled carpenter and so is therefore completely authentic. The glue dries in about 30mins so you can take the clamps off. It requires 24 hrs to completely set though. The tailgate is still giving me a headache as to how to connect it so it looks authentic. I can't find suitable hinges/fixings anywhere. Ready for staining. This stuff was evil. It dried to quickly and became like tar before long. The issue is this trend for low/no solvent paint/stain/varnish. It may be environmentally friendly but it's pretty poor stuff to actually work with. Solvents are useful things it turns out. Despite all that is turned out acceptable, I guess This bed really suits the short wheelbase of the Unimog CC01 but the wood effect id better suited to the 406 rather than the 425 and so I decided not to use the wooden bed for this build and pit it on a 406 when I get another CC01. On to the polycarbonate shell and its modification. I cut the cab away from the moulded truck bed and made a large insert to reinforce the back of the cab with 2mm styrene. I decided to paint the rear windows anyway so the insert could block them without worry. I then cut away a section of the back plate to accommodate the chassis A small bracket I made to connect the styrene to the lexan for extra rigidity. I used shoo goo to glue styrene to lexan and it works very well. Next I made some fittings for the rear of the styrene truck bed that I have decided to use for this build. Rear light panel that I made to resemble the moulded part of the polycarbonate section. I also cut out the polycarbonate light section from the moulded body and used them as covers for the LED lights that will be used. I'll put the vinyl stickers on them before i glue them in place so they have the red/yellow colour. Rear mudguards before filling and sanding After sanding along with the completed rear lights housing The completed styrene truck bed I will be using for this build An idea of whet the rear will looklike The CC01 in this guise is too short for this truck bed so I have decided to extend the wheelbase so it looks more proportional. And that's where I'm up to now. I am now confused as to how to fit these tie rods and fear I have wasted money on them as they probably require extra fixtures. Oh, well, live and learn.
  12. No word of a lie, I opened this thread, saw the first picture and thought, that's Yorkshire. The houses, the brickwork and colour pallette. Nice job, by the way.
  13. Thanks, but that is a different kit. There are several pieces there, not in the kit I have. The bracket things attached to the chassis are stroke extenders that are not part of the kit. They just lengthen the shock connector. Thanks for the advice, though.
  14. Bought some hop up parts from GPM and have no idea how to fit them as the stupid things didn’t come with instruction. They are not like for like and so reverse engineering doesn’t work. They appear to be direct screw into the existing holes and do not use the ball joint connectors. There’s a strange bracket that I cannot figure out and I really can’t see how the shocks are going to connect to rear axle now the old supports have been taken off. You tube is of no use and I cannot find any guides or instructions online. I should point out that the tie rod kit is for front and rear with a servo tie rod, but the rear is the confusing bit as it seems illogical at the moment. The front seems to be a simple case of replacing the tie rods and the same with the servo tie rod. So, any advice will be welcome. Pic has all parts that came. edit: Ignore the stroke extenders already attached to the chassis. They are not part of the kit.
  15. I haven't installed it as it would mean cutting the chassis, so I'll wait till I get a chassis that can accommodate the extra length. Although I did attach it to the electronics to see if it turned ok and it kept cutting out after few seconds, so I'll have to address that at some point.
  16. Made some rear mud guards and a housing for the rear lights for my styrene truckbed... Which is now finished How it will look... Now I have to make a seating structure for the underneath to fit over/around the CC-01 chassis... Which as you can see looks a little stubby for such a long truckbed. So, it needs to be extended... With these, which finally arrived after ordering some weeks ago. And that's what I have done today... What have you done today?
  17. This is great. The possibilities for this chassis as a crawler is very exciting. If only Tamiya would release it with the necessary parts that you have engineered. A whole host of body shells could be made for a 6WD crawler and they would fly off the shelf.
  18. @Crash Cramer Yes, I will be sprainting the outside and the silver will then be visible after I weather the truck with fine sandpaper to simulate the paint wearing away to the bare metal underneath. An idea I saw mentioned here a few times.
  19. Stalking her prey The deadly ear nibble
  20. I'm envious of your play area. In fact I spent the time imagining the short course race track I'd build in there and the elaborate crawler course that would fill the entire back section of the barn. Then I thought about how great it would be to be in there during a heavy rainstorm.
  21. Cut the flatbed away from my Unimog 425 and made a styrene insert and then stuck it in with Shoogoo.
