Yes, its easy to hear at 100 feet. Another thing that makes me think it was assembled wrong is when you go forward is seems like it takes a second or so for the torque to get from the motors through the drive train and to the wheels. Then it slams kinda hard to get rolling. Just feels like there is a lot of "play" in the drivetrain. I would love to rebuild but I'm leary to do this without instructions.

I recently purchased a second hand TxT-1 from the local hobby shop. After sorting out a few minor issues I still have one to go. The tranny seems to be very loud even for the 32p gears. I want to rebuild the gear box to see if this will help but one of the things that was not included was the manual. Is there anywhere on the web I can download a set?

I agree, most likely its a gear mesh problem. The web page TxT-1.net looks like they have the file I need but I'm having trouble registering. Still trying to download the instructions. If anyone has them and would consider e-mailing them to me I would be very grateful.
