Thanks for your reply TurnipJF, very interesting reading.
It sounds like no matter the choice some modification is required in one area or another when it comes to a buggy with my requirements, I guess it comes down to picking the one with the smallest downfall. The DF-01 rear gearbox housing puts me off a little, being a re-release again as well I would assume parts/hop-ups will be limited between runs and if the DF-03 has similar issues with those idler gears well that's out too.
The DF-02 never caught my eye as I figured it being between the 01-03 would be the odd one out, a simple propshaft upgrade seems like little downfall to overcome; I do recall reading about a potential downfall with the chassis being weak near the front (especially in regards to jumping/heavy hits) and also issues with square li-po fitment without modification. Which I also follow up with - by having a longitude mounted engine are the jumping characteristics off unless a well balanced motor/battery combo is used?
Then if we are speaking of longitude mounted motors again we come back to the TT-02B, which AFAIK is the newest of all the chassis, whether this carries improved design elements I am not sure of but one would assume so. The TT-02B MS kit (for metal dogbones) combined with the DF-02 diff gears and a alloy engine mount seems like a very practical basher apart from the low ground clearance (reported by most people discussing buggies, how much of a difference this makes between models is guesswork to me).
I guess if we factor in another criteria - say which could potentially carry with it club-spec features to be competitive should I ever want to move to this level? I know there are often class restrictions in terms of motors and gearing which makes my whole 'basher to be fast as possible' idea out the window, but if I am buying and hopping up a unit out of the box, may as well make it as versatile as possible.
Thoughts?
