  1. Thanks James,

I am European. I was thinking of making a rusty looking shell with the salt technique. Lets see how it goes :). I think its a good way to learn how to handle paint from a can. It doesn't have to be shiny, so I am not to much worried about orange peel, just have to make sure to not get paint runners in the paint.

For me it is also an experiment how to work with paint and ABS plastic. The theory I understand, now let´s apply theory to practice (and actually acquire skills along the way).

I will document when I start working on the parts.

    Regards,

The vinyl tape in particular was astonishingly good in spite of its thickness. Not much paint made its way under the shell, but the 40 mm tape did its job regardless, and the interior appears free of red.

Sure, that red does not feel as vibrant as that on the 037 4WD-H:

This looks like a real cool build. I have some Kyosho Dnano Lancia Deltas in red that would be a blast to give the same livery scheme.

Can you save the paint by retouching unpainted areas with a fine brush (if you have red paint from the can left over) and polishing the car gently to flatten down the orange peel?

Otherwise, I personally, would think about repainting the red paint before applying the decals. I think you are almost there with the body and that the learning journey you are taking is leading to good results.

  3. Hello members of the best Tamiya forum,

Not sure if everybody starts an introduction thread, I couldn't find a global one and the search function showed some individual results.

Growing up in the eighties makes you a long life sucker for videogames, Legoos, Nikes and Tamiya RC.
I have been reading here for some time, and have seen some amazing stuff.

As a kid I had some RC toys and did some kit building (mostly Revell). now being an old kid, getting interested in RC again and am reading up to start building some kits.
I want to start with painting a Sand Scorcher RERE shell, just to get a feel for the arts involved in building an RC car and see where it goes from there.
The shell is acquired and automotive paint is ordered, now need to find the time in my busy daily schedule.

    Best regards,
