  1. Excellent stuff, Thanks!
  2. Finally found some time and motivation to work on this car again. I planned to use a small high speed servo that I had for steering. Just one issue, due to the small servo size the servo saver is too much centered in the bulkhead and this disrupts the geometry of the (one long, one short) steering rods. So I moddeld and printed a small bracket that offsets the servo by 5mm, this puts the servo saver in the desired position closer to the car right side. One front gearbox completed for as far as I can do it for now. With a new front differential gear and new chain. The shape of things to come..... I'm missing the G-55 spacer, so need to model and print it too. If one quickly needs 3mm washers in black.....
  3. Fired up the ultrasonic cleaner to finally get some progress with the Marui Samurai that has been sitting for 3+ years in a box. Shock parts are clean and need some TLC and O-rings, rear suspension arms and chain guide are almost finished. So many parts for such a small car.....
  4. This little EasyTreed X1 3D printer. Buying this slightly used was cheaper than buying a 1.75mm filament nozzle and extruder for my K8200 3D printer. I intend to use it to print the steering hub balljoint cups for my Marui Samurai.
  5. Love it, but my wife will kill me if I would win this and pay all extra shipping and customs charges. Would not be surprised is this goes for 1000+ dollars.
  6. Very nice job on those wheels! Congratulations on those, they look great! The wife is at work this afternoon, so that's a good time for me to get the cardboard box labeled Samurai, and see where I left off last time...
  7. I've seen it once at a big manufacturing site. The industrial 3D printer was the size of 2 big closets but the results were beautiful.
  8. If only it was possible to 3D print rubber . Great modeling of the wheels!
  9. I have this older snow-mobile chassis, which I intend to use for mobile robotics. It had 385RS motors with a small extra gearbox bolted on and pinion, which in turn attached to the original gearbox. To make it a bit stronger, all running wheels got solid shafts (M8 thread) running the entire width, and I though I'd use 80T 540 motors for low RPM and more torque as the chassis was originally intended for 540 motors. Sadly, that motor choise was a mistake.... Speed is still too high, and the initial torque needed to get it spinning makes low speed a problem. So I ordered new motors, 540 size but with an additional gearbox bolted on so pinion RPM will be 800RPM before the main gearbox. That should be OK and provide a better torque curve. And a motor controller board, dual H-bridge.
  10. Indeed this is a very particular design. I'm trying to stick to the hotshot tires. I believe they will look good on my Samurai, which is far from showroom-state anyway so no need to be perfectly period-correct. But.... If I make/paint the extra added diameter to the rear rims black, the rims will look small diameter from a distance. So the look of the car will be fine. The black will blend with the black of the side of the tire, making it appear like a larger tire.
  11. A full set of Hotshot tires, for use on the Marui Samurai. The front wheels fit just fine. The rear wheels have a smaller diameter so I have a cunning plan to design and 3D print some form of round spacer that fits between rim and tire.
  12. That's a beauty! Very decent condition. The perfect Xmas present.
  13. Ordered a full set of hotshot tires to go on the Marui Samurai.
  14. I've got a lot of unfinished cars, but I should focus on the Marui Galaxy, that just needs light cleaning and reassembly, and the Samurai. The Samurai needs more work but if I can just get started on that, it would really get that ball rolling.... But also need to finish the stairs renovation to the attic, still not finished after 2 years due to a chronic backorder of motivation...
  15. Lazy Saturday, browsing local used stuff sites, came across a project Marui Coors melling Thunderbird. So the plan for the rest of today is resisting temptation.....
  16. Those plates sit on the inside of a Mad Bull gearbox. The pinion gear cover looks like that type of geagearbox too.
  17. Finished painting the Shogun body, gave the windows a dash of smoke, and decal time! Far better then when it came in...
  18. Wanted to go to the LHS this morning, only to find my daughter's hamster looking like he had a late-night party with too much tequila. So off to the vet first.... Turns out hamsters can get the flu so hopefully he'll get better in a few days with the medication we got..... Could finally go to the LHS later in the afternoon, and got 2 coats of black on the Marui Shogun shell.
  19. Pinion for the Marui Shogun came in, so the motor could finally be mounted and added electronics. I also realised I had 4 NOS tires that I used to buy for a Kyosho model, and they fitted the Shogun perfectly so wheels are now complete. Took it for a small test-drive in the garden, and it runs perfectly and smooth. So now all I need to finish this car is to get a can of PS-5.
  20. The Marui Coors Melling Thunderbird body and Galaxy RS wing. Very happy with that.
  21. Spend 2 hours masking up the Marui Shogun body, to start painting it box-art. Sprayed a lot of silver coats, looked OK. So removed the masking. Only to find I made a masking mistake at the silver section in the nose. Doooooh. So re-mask and repaint........ Next up is black, but I don't have enough so need to wait for the stores to open next week. Doooh.
  22. 4 Tamiya. Blazing Star, Mini Cooper, Konghead, Bullhead. And also 2 HSP Himoto and 5 Marui.
  23. Ordered a Marui Galaxy wing as that is missing from the Galaxy RS that I still need to tidy up, and a Coors melling Thunderbird body. I have a 4WD HSP Himoto buggy that I wanted to sell, but there is no interest in it. Given that the Thunderbird is the same chassis as the Shogun, the body should fit on the HSP buggy chassis that is similar in wheelbase and width. Nice combo for a retro runner body on a modern chassis.
  24. Was looking for tamiya 53059 tires online, for the Shogun. But got a bit frustrated as nobody except Tamico has any in stock, and shipping from Tamico is expensive for just tires.... I'll try again next month. Already spend enough money on electronics measurement equipment for this month, and since the Shogun body shell is also not finished, there is no rush. So packed up all left-overs, organised other Marui stuff and found the Galaxy RS I completely forgot about. So next project is in sight, and order a wing and decals at some point....
  25. Got the Marui Shogun chassis build up as far as it will go for now. I forgot to order a steel pinion, so did that next. Missing the rear body post, so using a Clodbuster body post for now... Only needs the ESC, reciever and motor. Now there is a bit of a dilemma on tires. The tires that came with the 2 cars that I used are either worn and have flat spots (set 1), or are covered in paint and cracked (set 2). Trying to get the paint off with the tamiya stripper to see if set 2 can be salvaged and glued, but if that fails for whatever reason I'm thinking of using Manta Ray tires, they look almost the same...... Does anyone know the Manta Ray wheel diameter and width??
