Yes, of course.  I run Deans plugs on every ESC/battery to avoid any issues.

Same here, in the old days, my buddies and I melted a fair share of tamiya plugs. :(
Now I use EC3 connectors between battery and ESC. And slowely I'll also move to EC2 or EC3 between ESC and motors.

For any batteries I have that are still Traxxas or NiMh with tamiya plug, I use adapters.

Excited to try the new 880 ESC they just came out with.

Great tip on the 880! I want to run the dual hunter, but the 860 ESC I ordered is still not sent out. So I'll cancel that order, use the 860 from the bullhead, and order the 880 for the bullhead. Win-win. ^_^

  2. I was playing in my head with an idea I had...

A clod/Bullhead normally runs twin silvercans (27 turns) combined with a 7.2V battery (or 7.4V lipo).

If you want more speed, you can run a 11.1V Lipo.

But say you want the speed to be somewere between a 7.4V and 11.1V lipo, but you also want more torque overall.
Would it make sense to run twin 35 turn motors combined with an 11.1V lipo? The higher turn count would make the truck slower, but this is compensated by the higher battery voltage. Also the increased number of turns would give extra torque as more magnetic field is generated..

Anybody any thoughts on this, or maybe tried this?

Congrats, pal. You got the REAL THING there!

Excellent specimen, and by the looks I think it is in good condition. Body is very nice, original, and properly done. You won't have problems finding the replacement light bar from the new version. I'm really surprised to see the extra "spacer" the previous owner got in there to use larger battery packs. I don't know how much you paid for it, but I believe it is a great purchase :)

    It was 50 euros...... ^_^

Edit: I have 3 rollbarr lights left over from the bullhead, maybe I can combine them. For now, this car is a shelf-queen as there are enough projects.

  4. My father brougt the used Clodbuster I bought! :D

I think it is one of the first series. The silvercans have white plasic endcaps. These days they are metal I believe.
Looks very complete and in good order. Only the tires have flat spots. Can that be solved somehow? (Inserts offcourse, but the tires are glued on the rims).
But I still also have a full new set of tires/rims so no problem.

To-do list would be teardown and clean-up, bearings, steel pinions, full electronics and a respray in metallic red. Keep steering standard for now, maybe an extended servo arm to improve steering rate.

But this will be on the shelf for some time, no rush as it is nice weather outside today and I really need to do some work on the house again, been putting too much time in the cars so time to shift priorities.

Let me know if yours have brake function as my one of those just goes fwd to rev and then from rev to fwd!

Did a quick check in the blazing star, And they do have the 'normal' function of forward stick = forward and reverse stick= brake, reverse stick again is reverse.
However, the brake function is quite weak. The hobbywing 1060 and 1040 ESCs I also use are much better at braking.

Today a much beter day then yesterday, with some nice weather I punished my wt-01 for one hour, do big jumps and drive it like a maniac, with some little mods this car is real tough.

Nice terrain, I really need to take my Dual Hunter there too! Can I ask what type of batteries you use in yours?

Ran the Blazing star today, it runs well. Very happy with all its upgrades but I still need to get a stickpack-shaped lipo.

  7. 3D printed shock towers for the Dual Hunter, to go with the shocks the previous owner installed. ^_^
The chassis sits lower now. Much better because the shocks were too long for the original mounting points, causing the chassis to sit way too high.

Wish the ESC was here, as it is beautiful weather outside. But our Chinese friends are not quitte back from their holidays. So a bit more patience for now.

  8. Too bad about the gears. I had the same thing when I took a Mantray to the beach. Sand had entered the rear gearbox, destroying the gears. That also ended things quickly that day.

I wish I had a beach close by to do more driving. Now it is just the street and grass, but sometimes that really gets old...

  9. I was looking at clodbusters on a local trading site and found one dirt-cheap.

So..... It happened again, my father picked it up as he lives very close to the seller and I'll see it saterday when my patents come to visit. ^_^

For the prise that the seller wanted, it is either the steal of the century, or some spares for the bullhead.

  10. Wanted to 3D print a shock tower for the Dual Hunter.

But the printer head jammed, so I had to dissasemble, clean, and rebuild.

Then the extruder slipped, so I had to dissasemble, clean, regrease and rebuild.

Then the fillement gave trouble, so I swapped it and it still would not go right.

Then I pulled a wire on the head temperature sensor, to see if a loose contact caused temperure regulation problems.... and the wire came clean off with no force. So problem found....!

Just one of those days I guess......... <_<

That sounds fun, I'll be pimping my Bullhead when it arrives and those shocks look very apt... so the Bull can handle 3s lipo ok then??

Love that bodyshell btw... must pick up one for a runner to preserve the original bullhead shell.

I ran at for a minute or 2, as it was already quite late. The motors and WP-860 ESC did not feel hot. Gearboxes sounded OK too.

However, given the crazy drive, I think I'll run the Bullhead on 2S for now. The 3S is really intended for a nitro Mugen Seiki I have, which will get a brushless conversion.

  12. The new shocks for the bullhead, and a 3S lipo. :D

Took the bullhead out for a spin on 3S and dual silvercan, This is a crazy drive!

It will do wheelies from standstill, and on half brake it's rear is in the air.
Had to seriously reduce steering angle to keep confidence in the controls... RC was not like this in the eighties whahaha...

Edit: These shocks are 100mm, love the new slightly lowered look.

  13. I was also wondering about this, but in the Dual Hunter I will try a mix of greases as a test.

I have a pack of UR0906 grease. While this is a great grease, it is also very sticky. It almost resembles a pot of glue.
With the gearboxes I've done in the past, I found that with this particular grease, less is more.

Because of its stickyness, it stays on the gears really well, and a thin coat is enough for great lubrication. It is also great for packing into a differential, limiting the diff action.

But... if used to much on the gears, the gearbox has a higher resistance compared to ceramic or normal PTFE greases. To avoid this somewhat, I use a brush to dap the gear surfaces wih a thin layer of this grease, and then run the gearbox as a seperate piece from a bench power supply at 12 volts for a few minutes, to fling off any excess grease from the gears.

My point being.... A fast spinning gear like a pinion will profit from a very sticky grease as it stays on longer, but a slower moving gear like a differential will probably have to much resistance, because gear teeth surface area is larger causing more stickyness, and the low RPM will not effectively fling of excess sticky grease.

So in the Dual Hunter, I'm planning to use the UR0906 in the pinion and the gear that engages the pinion, and to limit the diff somewhat.
But the rest of the gears will be regular PTFE or ceramic grease, to reduce resistance. So multiple greases in the gearbox... each for its own specific purpose.

Edit: sorry to drag up this old thread, I wanted to put this into a differend thread.

  14. I was also very curious about such a setup on a car too. It is on my list to do someday, but thats in the far future. Biggest challange may be to mount the camera in a low-vibration manner, as moving car platforms are not nearly as stable as Drone platforms.

But driving an RC car with FPV goggles on, that should be a blast! :D

  15. Ordered an ESC, receiver and pinions for the dual hunter. Now the waiting game begins. ^_^

And put my Leopard 1 A4 tank online for sale, to clear some space. I have big plans for it which means big time and money. And since there are enough projects and I don't see myself driving it..........
