  1. Painted all aluminium parts from the chassis in red, which works better for me compared to the aluminium grey.

Reassembled the chassis with new stainless steel screws/nuts.

Need to replace the motors with black can types, but that is somewere on the to-do list.

  2. For me, it was 'one of those days'. Another half-hour quick job turning into a 2 hour one...

My daughters school asked if we could make 22 2-inch wooden cubes before monday, for the toddlers to paint for mothers day or something I guess.

No problem, get a 2 inch square pole, and bring out the miter saw. How hard can this possibly be??.... B)

First few cubes went OK, but after that the saw started resonating badly while cutting and the resulting cuts were terrible with splinters everywere. Looked into it and the blade showed missing teeth.

So, get in the car, off to toolstation for new blades, and since the DIY store was there closeby, get a new pole as these cubes turned out just bad and I did not feel like having to sand them for hours to make it splinter-free, drive around town as the shortest road back to home was closed.....

New blade with a high teeth count thankfully did the job well and minimal splinters, so a quick rub on the belt-sander and the cubes were splinter-free and child-save.

  3. Good topic. ^_^

Mostly a collector, because as my wife's nephew put it, I now have access to 'grown ups' money and can finally afford the cars I couldn't have as a kid.

And tinkering is also a good description, as the Jugger is quite modified and got an Arduino processor to switch between functions. Love the modern tinker stuff that is available these days. :)

Also on the list are the nitro to electric conversions for my Mugen Prime 12 chassis and the Kyosho Corvette.

Not big on driving as I don't want to damage these classic cars, but when I drive it's usually basher Big Bear, parts are cheap and plenty for that HSP Himoto chassis, and polycarbonate bodies can be replaced easily.

  4. I was trying some paint samples with the little Model Color paint flasks the LHS recommended.

Found them to be quite frustrating, the paint was very thick when I used this paint, it did not flow well.

Sometimes it takes a while to realise that you really need to dilute this stuff.

  5. Cut the 6mm aluminium pipe that I tried and failed to use for the Jugger's rollcage in 8 pieces to cover the M4 threads on the suspension arms. Also cut 2 small pieces of 10mm pipe for exhausts. Planning to strip down the entire chassis for a clean before 'final' assembly.

(As we all know, nothing is ever finally assembled .)

It is nearly impossible to paint glossy finishes (body size) in the winter for me as air inside the house is so dry, static everywhere attracting dust.   I can manage small things like garage accessories and driver helmets.   Matte finish is okay as I can spray from afar intentionally enabling dust to easily come off after the paint dries.

GL with the rest of the body work.

Thankfully, I was still doing the primer layers when things went south, so the 'damage' is minimal.

Pickup bed and cabin now each had 2 layers of primer white. This revealed some very minor finishing imperfactions that I need to adress, but overall it's 98% good. Happy with that.

Guess I'm just a little rusty when it comes to painting, the last car was some years ago.

  7. I sprayed the Juggers pickup bed last weekend, but needed to sand it again as it picked up a lot of dust during spraying....

Put the finishing touches and sanding on the cabin.

Gave them both a bath to get rid of dirt, and they are now sitting on a heater to dry up. Give them both a spray of Tamiya white primer later today.

Have I mentioned before I really don't like painting because it is so much work, especially on a hard shell...? <_<

If I have some time this evening, I'll replace the used/stripped and rough looking Tamiya screws in the chassis for something a bit more appealing.

  8. Cleaned the Juggers rims in preperation for painting, too bad the tires are glued on that doesn't help. I'll pick up some masking tape that can curve easily this weekend to mask off the tires.

Gave the grille its first layer of paint, but that came out rough and I clearly did not sand the filler correctly so back to the sand paper, try again tomorrow. A good lesson that I need to pay better attention to these detailed things.

Then again, I always disliked painting, so much work!

  9. Long weekend so more Jugger time.

The interior will have a steering wheel for the driver figure, and I want the wheel to turn with steering so it get a servo attached.

Needed to fix a shaft coupler to the servo, so I took a short piece of 6mm metal pipe and filed saw-like teeth to one end.
Took the splined center of a plasic servo horn (took off the tabs), heated the pipe and pressed it into the plastic.
Screwed this onto the servo to get a 6mm output shaft for the coupler.

Made servo mounting points using plastic and helicoils I never tried so this was a good oppertunity.

Glued it all in place, job done.

I also want a solid front bumper, so filled all the gaps to get a one-piece bumper.

Working on the extra 2 posts for the rollcage now to get those primed and ready for mounting.

  10. More Jugger work to get to the point where I can finally start painting the body parts...

Added strenghteners to the interior plate to firm it up so the body that is attached to this plate sits better.

    niwXIV6.jpg

Then I realised I have forgotten 2 posts from the rollcage to the pickup bed. So I made the holes in the bed and cut the posts to size.
I need to glue those in place and then cut them both vertically just after the cabin so the bed can hinge up again.

Also, I filled the seam in the hood, and the recessed door handeles with a tube of Tamiya puty white but that was a bad mistake.
This thin filler is OK for small gaps but it cracks on anything that is bigger because it shrinks to about half its size when drying.
So I think a 2K filler like milliputty will work better, as it hopefully won't shrink that much.

  11. Working on the Jugger's pickup bed.

I want a smooth bed, so I made a plate for it and it is removable by 4 screws to have access to the bumper screws lower in the bed.
Also made light clusters for the rear LED lights, and fitted the new rear bumper. Going well so far.

  12. More Jugger work, zooming in on the details.

The rollcage got 2 coats of white primer. This braught up the grain in the wood so that could be sanded down. Also showed some small imperfections so those are filled.
It now recieved a coat of filler-primer so I can sand it nice and smooth.

Repaired a missing mounting point on the back of the grille.

Made LED bulb mounts to mount the lighting in the headlights.

3D printed/sanded/filled and sanded the replacement rear bumper. Needs more work but happy with it so far.
