  1. You're much more advanced than I am when it comes to everything we're talking about. How often do you need to run a motor underwater and let it dry for a few weeks? I'm keeping the Sport Tuned motor in the Hopper but I'm going to try and get more rear grip with new tires... and the front suspension I mentioned above.
  2. I forgot to reply to this thread with the fix. I ended up removing the stock spacers on the Hornet shocks to soften the rear suspension and the binding problem went away. I guess I was confusing stiff springs with a binding axle? Whatever it was... it's fixed!
  3. I put the Sport Tuned 540 in my Grasshopper and it was as you described... a roof rider. I added the Hornet rear suspension with Hornet shocks and an Ampro Transmission Retainer. The retainer requires the Ampro battery door (which is really nice) so I have that too. And as you describe again, it's fast and handles great on pavement, though I do lay off the throttle a little when turning. In the sand, it seems the rear tires never stop spinning and you're constantly steering, over steering, and correcting. Now I need to do something with the front suspension as the front wheels seem to bounce quite a bit. The car is still a blast to drive!
  4. I haven't tried removing the springs but I will. I like your idea of rounding the end of the shaft instead of shortening it. That will probably work. I'll let you know what I find. Thanks for the help and ideas!
  5. Thanks for the reply, mongoose. As I mentioned, I added the Hornet rear shocks with all accompanying parts. This included Hornet parts D and every other part I needed to replicate the hornet rear end. Unless you are referring to an extension other than the stock hornet extensions. My area of concern is with the axle shaft and the sticking/binding I feel when it moves up and down in the axle stay.
  6. I have a re-re Grasshopper and I added the Hornet rear shocks with all accompanying parts, including the Ampro brace for the Grasshopper tab. Everything is fine except the axle that rides in the rear axle stay doesn't move up and down very smoothly. (see red arrows in image.) It sticks and binds more than I would like. I added a small amount of grease like the manual states, but it still sounds like there's sand in there... and there's not... yet. Do the Hornets do this as well? Should it move smoothly? Do you think I should shorten the axle by 1 mm or so? Thanks for any info you may have.
  7. I did some homework on this topic recently. The opinions vary, but regular Krazy Glue is what I will be using at 12, 3, 6, and 9 o'clock if the tire were a clock face. Glue on both sides. I may also give the silicone a try since I can change my mind if I don't like the results. See this thread for more ideas.
  8. Maybe 85 mm with a smaller wheel would look good. I'm looking forward to seeing your tire pics.
  9. I just got the Hornet rear end installed and what a difference. I don't notice a big improvement in the hopping, but I stopped rolling it on the pavement and reduced the rolls in the dirt. It was a little hard to keep the rubber down with the 540 tuned motor. Now I don't think I need wide wheels for the rear. Just something in the 80-85 mm tall range and normal width. Maybe a little narrower for the front.
  10. Just remembering the tires in the link say "On Road." What's the difference... hard compound vs. soft?
  11. Thanks for the pics. That's really helpful information. This is a great forum! I was thinking about something around the size of the Brat wheels and tires but since you mentioned the rollovers, I'm thinking something wider for the rear. For the size I was looking at 85mm but they look a little big on @Juggular's Hopper so now I'm looking at 75-80mm. But now something wide for the back. If these measurements are accurate, this tire diameter should be pretty good. https://smile.amazon.com/Mxfans-Pattern-Rubber-Yellow-Plastic/dp/B071W4WDS1/ref=pd_ybh_a_2?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=V9Y6V1MCD02ZMDVTZTSV
  12. Those are some big wheels but I bet it's really stable now.
  13. I get what you mean. I'd like to widen the stance if I can find a wheel that was almost opposite offset of my example. The Wild One wheels look good. I'll shop around for some and see what I find. Thanks for the info!
