  1. Hi, I’m new here as some of you may have seen in the General Discussion Room. I have built a Tamiya Super Sabre in the past during my teenage years and now that I’m 45 I thought I’d revisit the RC model building world to recreate my weekend play car, an MR2 Mk1 so I thought I’d start a build thread and see how I get on. The eBay listing for the MR2 shell said it fitted a Tamiya M-06 chassis so my choices where a Midnight Pumpkin Lowride or VW Beetle. I love old cars more than custom motors so I went for the Beetle. My first worry was that once I was home with the kit I noticed it was 1/10 and that the shell I ordered from the States was 1/12. So I joined this forum as I hadn’t even started yet and already had confused myself with different chassis lengths, wheelbases and scale. You guys jumped straight on it and put me right with the things I needed to know. Thanks. Anyway, after reading loads of stuff on here I realise that the best thing to do when building kits is to follow the instructions and not jump ahead. So in true Boddney style I started at section 26 page 15 and built the wheels and tyres as I had a spare half hour to myself at the weekend. Lol 😂 I’ve pictured the kit and the MR2 shell and a picture of my weekend car for inspiration along with my impatient instruction jump. Hope to get back to you with more soon. Bod.

    What Chassis to Choose

https://tamico.de/navi.php?a=62690&lang=eng What chassis would recommend for this shell? The listing doesn’t say what scale the shell is, it just says 257mm chassis. Is that the length in total or the gap between the the wheels. I guess it’s the length. I wish these things were more standard to make it clearer for us. Help please. Bod

That very one is now on eBay for sale. What a coincidence. https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.co.uk%2Fulk%2Fitm%2F233142781528

Tamiya M-06 with US Style MR2 Mk1 Shell

Masked using doggy poo bags and a bit of tape just to spray the rear diffuser. Painted Masked around the the front fog light surrounds and took a chance on painting with a brush after getting some advice from @Jason1145. Actually I had to do it twice as the first unmasking revealed a terrible edging finish. Second time I masked it with Frog Tape and unmasking immediately after painting resulting in a much better finish. This weekend will see the main event of colour. Bod

Ah ok, I wasn’t sure which way round they went so just made sure they pointed the same way. I’ll switch them round.

Like you I couldn’t work out how to buy them so I didn’t even look into exchange rates for prices. They are great looking parts for both shells. I’ll have to try and make some time to do some more digging. Thanks for your input though. Bod

Tamiya M-06 with US Style MR2 Mk1 Shell

I managed to get a second hand TT-01 locally to me and struck a fair deal for both parties. There are quite a few hop ups including a fixed front diff. I stripped, cleaned, re-greased and rebuilt it. Now looking for the most correct wheels that are available with a view to minor modifications to make them correct. The shell fits nicely. I’m going again with the stealth mounts. Here’s the piccys.

I may do a Lexus GS300 next then that will be all my real fleet reproduced in miniature. Has anyone ever used this kit before? I’m just wondering how you’d attach the tail pipes and intercooler to the shell?

The slice in the valance is in picture 6 with the masking tape behind it. I put the tape on the inside and fed superglue into it using the blade of the craft knife. Best I could do really. I just hope it doesn’t show to much after painting.

Ok so I’ve made a start on the GT86 and once again there is a picture just for you @Jason1145. I made my usual little cockup on the front. It seems to be a party trick of mine. 3 shells cut and 3 shells cocked up on the front valance. Never mind, another little bit of character and a very er.... skill-full repair (cough cough)
  18. I’m still looking for a bargain basement TT01/2. Found this on a local selling page but can’t identify it. Any ideas please? Ta Bod

    What Chassis is this Please?

Mind you, this is a possibility. It works out at £36.08 + P&P. Still a bit over but worth a look if I can’t find a cheap cheap one before I really need it.

    What Chassis is this Please?

Thanks. I’ve had a look there. Most are about £60 and that is really double what I want to pay for a static car that going to be sitting in my shed. My ideal would be a worn, tired and dirty one that I can strip, clean and put back together with the only change maybe being the wheels if they’re not the right look.
