Yeah, I need to catch them up to the rest of the rig. I wasn’t sure if they were staying on the truck and not sure my paints would stay on the chrome parts of the rim. I’ll get it sorted when I come to weather the interior I think as it’s looking like they’ll stay.

On more reflection the foam will go in the bottom and the top could be the plunger. Much like 1:1 ones work. The piggybacks aren’t always necessarily meant to be filled up with oil. Sometimes they have a setup like that to absorb harsh landings. Saw it on YouTube on V2vids channel maybe on a 1:1 monster truck shock rebuild. The O-rings will be bump stops for the base of the shock shaft above the shock perch. edit : the difference is piggyback vs reservoir shocks. Reservoir hold oil and piggyback helps. Someone hopefully will step in with better knowledge if I’m wrong. edit 2: there is a rather scathing thread or two over on rccrawler.com about these. They are very similar to (or just plain rebranded) TopCad shocks. The foam and aluminium parts are indeed meant to go in the piggyback to tune the compression rate from what I can follow.

Look like they maybe to fill the piggyback. The solid one will be to remove the effect I’d imagine and the foam one might cause some kind of progressive effect?

Yup, we are regularly repairing these in laptops at work, Acers are a particularly bad one for shedding plastic but there isn’t a brand I can think of that is free from that. Laptops generally have an easier life than rc so I’d probably not bother putting them in. Better than a gaping hole I guess. Helicoils are an alternative but I’d expect they’ll have their own issues. I have seen them used with success on here, a CC01 build maybe? Can’t remember as it was a year or two ago.

@Willy iine there may be some styrene work coming if the notion takes. I made the visor on the TF2 Blazer above from styrene sheet as my first finished venture. @JimBear that’s kinda all I know so art mimicking life there I guess

So according to my photos I started this in late April or early May, and as is typical of any of my builds the tantamount of my planning is "I want to make something I think is cool" and that's about as far as any plans ever go. I'm never in a rush and burnout and enthusiasm are sporadic and random with all of my projects but I'm rarely not doing something, even if it is just doing the "stare and think" part of a project. There is a rough plan but not much more and I can never actually describe what that is. The size i have going here is 48"W x 28"D x 20"H and its not going to just be a prop, its real purpose is photo booth and clean bench. So to start i made a floor and 3(ish) walls from scrap wood i had, seemed a logical place to start👍 I got an LED strip that was being chucked out by my Mum when she redid her kitchen so that was a bonus. It'll do fine until i get a better direction of what I'm doing. Then I found some stirling board and replaced the rubbish walls with slightly less rubbish walls. I was lucky enough to be graced with a deal for a boatload of scale stuff from a top man which gave me an amazing start. Then painted some stuff grey with the finest cheapest wood primer i could find in town and a couple of coats of varnish on top of that. I got some sheets of embossed brick paper to see what i think of it and help me decide where to go next and am using a sheet of thin plywood as a door to decide what layout to use and am moving everything around to decide on a layout I like while i wait on inspiration to hit so I can progress further. I scored a plywood pallet from work and that has given me the material to get the final walls made at the right size, I did think about buying a sheet of ply to use but I knew if I was patient something would turn up that was free😉, I'll tear it down and replace them at some point. So now I'm just slowly grabbing bits and bobs along the way to add to the garage to fill it out, shouldn't really be buying more as I could probably fill two with the stuff I have but that's not always really the point. Last night I changed it up to a different layout to see what i thought. Of course I needed some shelves above to make other projects be in arms reach incase the notion hits. And an idea of the chaos surrounding the garage😂 So thats it for now until I feel the want/need/inspiration to do more. Could be days or months, but I'll update this when there's something worth showing......

So a "wee" update on this, I got completely distracted with everything else RC while I was working on my hot rod truck and basically burnt out on that project for a bit and moved onto this again. Last time i ran it I felt the truck wasn't right and that a bit of time to think about my next move was needed. So here's where i went, Made some sliders at my mates house from some brass and M3 brass inserts. Got the leaf reversal from RCBitz to put the wheels where they look better and probably work better. Then I grabbed some Boom Racing 1.55" ProBuild wheels with the narrowest drive hub available and put some 1.55" General Grabbers on. Love the wheels but not sure they'll stay on this. Started painting/weathering to make the truck look a bit less shiny, not finished, lots to be matched up along the way but its a first go and its likely not the worst ever. Broke out the styrene and made a template in Inkscape and made a visor based off a Fink Industries design then tried to get a match on the paint and added an RC4WD bracket to put more Daylighters on. Fixed the bonnet and added some more wipers, this time I have moved the mounting point and filled the old holes. Printed some better body mounts(from Thingiverse) and took some smooth shaft M3 bolts and cut the heads and extra thread off and changed the loathsome body mounts. Went totally off the deep end and did the V8 bits, stupid really but it does look cool🤪 Clearanced the firewall for the distributor and added some moulding to the underside of the bonnet. Added a bench seat in the back along with some scale bits in the back, still all needs mounting more permanently once i decide what's gonna be stay where. And made a CB antenna from some piano wire and sheet steel, not the cleverest thing ever but it'll bounce around pretty well. Still got to finish up a ton of bits, mount radiator properly, wire distributor and decide on loom style, patch firewall, finish interior, blah blah but here's where its at now. I also wired up all the LEDs with magnet wire to be easier to hide, the roof lights are run through a 1mm hole i drilled in the door seam. Anyone have a shout on a decent scale light system that's better than the usual £15 "nearly there but still not quite right" eBay specials?

I’ve seen a few organisers that have a mould in the lid to stop that by kinda locking the dividers in the bottom. I’d likely bag them in the compartment until I needed a bigger organiser if were you.

I would say that any RTR does generally need a good check over at the least, if not a rebuild in case it was assembled on a Friday afternoon. My blazer came home fine but I was warned by plenty of people that there would be no grease in it or need shimmed to stop it eating itself and other things. It turned out not to be the case but glad I took notice and checked as it might have been expensive if I hadn’t. RC does tend to be a game of modding a truck to sort the weaknesses that any model has and I don’t really believe that any company isn’t guilty of it to some degree, wether it be to come in at a price point or just to make more money. I’m definitely gonna keep an eye out for what people do with this truck as it looks smart and does have plenty of tricks out of the box, I’d just like a hair more speed in high gear.

I think RC4WD are at a point where they are trying to address the quality issues from what I’ve seen on the Chevy Scottsdale reviews. I’ve got a Blazer and I love it but it’s not a crawler, definitely more a scaler/dollhouse car imo. I’ve had various other bits over the years and some have been hopeless and others great. I’ve been looking at the Miller buggy and it looks smart but it’s not really for me, I’d end up overpowering and killing it. Price and features is cracking for the price though, hopefully the truck would hold up to intended use.

This looks to be an alternative layout of the Mad Wagon(KB10W) from the KB01L chassis model so that should give a good indication of how it runs and holds up. If my USA-1 is any real comparison of brushless Kyosho then it’ll be full of power and a riot to drive

The budget DumboRC versions seem to have a good rep, this might be worth a look as my Flysky Gt3c is getting on a bit now and this may match the feature set well.

Here's some possibly less common stuff, Pipe cutter for body posts, scalpel with the screw at a sensible end, small ring spanners are ridiculously handy ceramic tweezers, deburrer, pin vice to name a few

I use a metal scribe, hook it in the gap, pull and spend the next half hour searching. Not the most efficient method but it’s done me fine for a decade

Yup, just like the timing for the Clod, needs to be zero for best results.

I use Turpentine Substitute/Mineral Spirit or WD40 as it’s pretty much 75% mineral spirit anyway. Then a good wash with dish soap to remove the residues as to not break down the new grease.

I’m sure these were eBay specials but I can’t find them on there just now, they were meant for the Blackfoot I think and came on several different tires, slicks, knobbly and street. Hopefully if I’m wrong someone will step up and correct me.
