It is TL01 - the first Tamiya I had and liked some ideas behind its design, especially drivetrain solution. I originally wanted just slight update to the TL01, my version of "TL02". So I rebuilt an MF01 to standard dimensions and mid motor. That worked pretty well, but there were too many compromises, so i decided to design a complete car from scratch

TB04/Evo6 also had 20T bevel, they might fit

Thank you There's still lot of work, some parts don't work as intended, bottom chassis plate is temporary (it'll be an aluminium plate) plus I need to finish the chassis cover and figure out cable management. Btw, could you guess, which Tamiya chassis was inspiration for this design?
-
Finally managed to do short test drive with my rally chassis. It didn't immediately fall apart, so that's a success :-)
-
Would you measure it anyway please? I guess that most of the dimensions will be similar, only difference being maximum angle and overall length, which is specified by the product info - so your input would help me.a lot
-
@Tamiyastef I meant onroad universals, sorry, I didn't realise that MST makes offroad models, too @alvinlwh I'm looking at 820005, but I think that TCRs will be mostly the same, apart from length, so it'd help me, too

For my rally project, I need some wide angle driveshafts for the front axle - I found MST wide angle universals, which seem to be quite similar to the Tamiya ones. Is there someone who owns an MST, who could measure or test, whether they can be combined with Tamiya CVDs and/or crossjoints? Thanks for help

So, after some 3 months of design work, I managed to test-print some parts for my new rally chassis. It still needs tons of work, but I want to finish it before the end of the month.

@lukej it's #22047, there's no product page yet, but here's a photo from Mokei Kagaku Facebook page: -

This car looks amazing. I'd never guess that I'd look on a TT02 and thought: I want it! 😀 I remember that you started a TC01 conversion, is there any motivation for that project? I think that once the gearboxes are finished, it'd open a way for tons of interesting projects - for example, modern, high performance iteration of the F201. Or, on opposite end of the spectrum, a rally car 😈 Tamiya wasted an opportunity to create a flexible platform with the moulded-in differentials... Tamiya just announced a new spool for XV02, which also fits TT02. It's not first time when manufacturers started making a product only after someone put lot of effort into developing their own.. -
There should be a balancing connector on the wiring. Do you have both cells? One alone won't work, because it has just 3,7V
-
I think that M06R weights and red anodised/plated parts weren't available separately.
-
@Busdriver there's still a chance they'll release a non-pro version with some new bodies.
-
Ah, I didn't notice that the picture on the box is very different design to the TT02. Having this many options for differential is not a bad thing. I found that open rear diff with some AW grease works quite well on a slippery surface.
-
Does it mean, that it will have the open TT02 diffs out of the box, instead of the oil filled ones? But the 70T spur gear for XV02 gear differential confirms a center differential option.

It's a hardcase saddle pack battery. Two 3.7V batteries connected in series - together they are the same size as a standard 7.4V Hardcase Li-Pol. Side by side, they are same width, as length of a shorty Li-Pol. It was common in 00's, that competition RC cars had split Nixx pack, with 3-cells on each side. Competition buggies retained this configuration into the Li-Pol age, until it was mostly replaced by the shorty packs.
-
I didn't notice, but I guess they're same as the front ones, that's standard for the PRO variants. I think that steel turnbuckles are standart for offroad models, even TRF buggies have them, if I'm not mistaken.

Some snaps from the video which I found interesting: The differential is a new design with 1280 bearings. New size of driveshafts - they look quite beefy, too. It seems that they tried to get as much ride height as possible - here, it's visible, that the differential case reaches bellow bathtub and suspension mounts. Detail of suspension mounts And newly designed rear hub carriers. And center gearbox. Did they say something about center differential in the video? It certainly looks like it could fit there. Also, the adjustable battery stop is visible here.

More info about the chassis will be revealed on Tamiya RC live, on 27th Feb. https://www.tamiya.com/japan/rc/enjoytamiyarc/rclive.html

I don't think that higher CG will be an issue - it's some 200g being higher by some 5mm? That doesn't matter that much on a low grip surface this thing is intended for, and it can even help in specific conditions. I think that motivation behind the design is more forward weight. The TB05 has battery and motor further back that the XV. Edit: I tried to higlight shape of the bathtub, quite interesting design

It looks like Tamiyablog blocks embedding pictures.. here is link to the article. https://tamiyablog.com/2022/02/detailed-drawing-of-tamiya-58707-xv-02-pro-chassis-kit/
-
New, more detailed picture from the Tamiyablog. It looks like the top diff halves are moulded into the bathtub, with the second half attached from the bottom.
-
I think that the design is inspired by competition buggies, but instead of saddle pack or shorty, Tamiya chose to place a standard pack on its side. Maybe it'll have pieces needed for the saddle pack configuration.

Tamiya Announcement: Something new is coming… but what?
Honza replied to GeeWings's topic in General discussions
It doesn't need to create sandpaste, it just quickly wears out to the point that teeth looks more like saw than gear and then starts to wear the plastic gear.
