  1. I'm guessing those 8-in-1 cables are a bad idea? Tempted to replace them all with XT60 plugs...
  2. Oh whoops -- my NiMH batteries are 2400, not 4200 and the charger is 1.5A so maybe charging them for 3 hours wasn't the best idea
  3. LOL yikes. What good is it then? Got an "fconegy 2s 7.4V 5000mah 40C" LiPo on the way. That's neat then. I guessed if that was the function, it was a good idea cos the poor old Clod transmissions goes into fits when I jam it into reverse. Wonder what 4WD would do with that ... hmm ... NiMH 4200mah. They're probably 15 years old too and sat in the box for the past 12. The Clod really is a hoot on Power mode ... maybe he needs a LiPo too...
  4. Went with the S60 cos I'm in a hurry and am off overseas for 6 weeks from February Pay later! Naturally, I didn't notice that the S60 only includes a single charging cable, so now I'm battling through the crap on Amazon looking for the right ones for my other batteries ... You'd think in Japan where freakin' TAMIYA and KYOSHO come from, they'd have decent hobby shops but NO-ooo
  5. Mmm. I can get four S60 for the price of the Reedy and shipping from the US. You're not helping LOL
  6. Ok looks like the S60 and the E660 are both plug in to AC, the other two need PSU and the Nano really wants basically a PC PSU of 380W or over. Oh and the e660 does stuff I don't need. Answering my own questions again LOL
  7. I live in Japan, so Amazon Japan is pretty much my hobby shop. eBay tends to take way too long for shipping... I'll be charging NiCd, NiMH, and plan on getting LiPo 2s. Primary options are SkyRC B6 (I'm a bit paranoid about all the clones ) S60 (seems to be a bit more robust with the discharge too?) E660 (I guess AC built-in is handy...?) B6 Nano I doubt I'll be charging from a car ever, and if I find myself doing that, I'll get a car AC doohickey... Oh and oddly enough they're all about the same price. Shipping time seems to be the major difference
  8. Brushless and LiPo = yeah nah too much power eh
  9. I got one last week, ran it the first time today. I like it ... I wanted a RWD for kiddie skids and power sliding, and it fits the bill. The oil kit for the shocks is included, but not assembled. Lots of spring options and a couple of shock options on the site too. Looks like two different motors on Options tab, page 4: http://rc.kyosho.com/en/rccar/34403t2.html The OEM battery didn't last long like, 20 minutes max. Mine came with a 1300mah NiCd (although the homepage states it comes with a 1800mah NiMH). I'm eyeing up a 2s 5000mah on Amazon Japan. Looking on YouTube, 2s LiPo (?) improves speed and runtime, and the OEM ESC and motor supports it out of the box. This guy runs stock and then LiPo in the same video:
  10. Ok that was a hoot. For about 10 minutes, it was mental good fun. Faster than the Clod on Power setting, power sliding and wheelies. Just what I wanted. Then it kind of switched to a similar output to the Clod's Economy mode, and just sort of pootled around for the next 10 minutes. Is that normal? Battery is a 7.2V 1300mah NiCd. Just noticed the charger is 9V 300mah... shouldn't that mean it's charged fully in 4 hours? At first I thought reverse was broken -- you have to "double click" to get reverse, but I think that's a feature cos it acts as a handbrake for kiddie skids when you're driving forwards I guess Kyosho's philosophy is buy a running car, bash it for a bit then replace stuff with their hop-up parts.
  11. Finally got around to opening the box... I thought it'd be bigger maybe the guys reviewing it on YouTube are just wee fellas, or I'm used to the Clod. But that's a good thing, as it's still bigger than the buggies but not inconveniently big. Transmitter looks like a toy, but has DR and all the trims. Big enough for my hands, and rubber on the wheel. It'll do. ESC comes ready to cope with LiPo, which is neat. Just switch a jumper and it's good to go. Apparently. Feel pretty satisfied with the bang for bucks, so far. I would have liked to build it though
  12. Yeah, nitro. I'd rather have one that runs though Why would anyone want these old things? There's no parts for them, if I can't fix the battery box by cleaning I'm going to have to hunt around for equivalent bits... The Inferno 10 is better looking ... but has less bits.
  13. Whoops supposed to arrive on Tuesday when the wife was safely out of the house, turned up while we were out, and she was the first one in the house I love Amazon. Often, I order stuff in the morning and it arrives in the afternoon Hoping I can put the box away and she'll forget about it.
  14. Ordered. Due here on Tuesday. I really hope it's not a NiCd battery like in some pictures... I'll review if you want. And ... huh. Took the Clod out today, and noticed some things were wobbling, so opened it up to replace the nuts that had dropped off. In search of spares, got out the box with my nitro buggy in and ... it's not broken. Everything is complete and assembled and nothing is damaged. Well, except the battery box -- I left batteries in there and they melted, as did the ones in the transmitter. The battery holder and switch might be able to be replaced, or perhaps I could clean it all out... And the other buggy I've had forever is an Inferno 10, and looking at it is the better chassis -- aluminum plates, adjustable ties, bigger motor. I've never run it, and the TR15 hasn't been run in a decade should be interesting. Or maybe I'll just stick with electric and figure out LiPo LOL
  15. There's a town in Belgium called Asse, Belgium does chocolate. That's probably as much of a connection as the company needed The reviews on YouTube are positive, and when the guys drop in 2s LiPo they get positively gushing. Really seems to be good bang for buck, eh. Unlike my Inferno, I think I paid too much for that Looks like a nice big supply of spares and upgrades too, direct from the Kyosho page. Rage looks like a good option if I want 4WD too ... then all the boys in the family would have a truck to play with http://rc.kyosho.com/ja/rccar/epoffroad/34403t2.html
  16. To say they have their own design and layout sensibilities would be putting it very politely. For example, when they do PowerPoint presentations, they like to put every word of the speech on the slide -- this one time, I was helping a guy with the English on his, and we were down to 5 point font to fit everything on the page Snacks like that are pretty weird. Those ones are "parifuwa" -- crunchy and fluffy. Because why not KitKat has dozens of flavors here. Don't ask me why. What, didn't you enjoy the milky Collon? Then, how about some Asse chocolate, or some Cocque d'Asse?
  17. Amazon Japan ... same same but different they do English, while 99.9% of stores here don't, and J-stores usually are so badly done that Translate can't make sense of them. The superrc website doesn't even use proper encoding, so you have to keep switch manually to be able to read different pages, and there's still bunches of data missing. People don't trust online shops in Japan -- so they don't bother. It's infuriating
  18. @Wooders28 I can buy them on Amazon, so I assume it's all compatible... @Juggular Yeah, pretty much answered my own questions again sometimes it helps to have people to bounce things off. Now, just wait till I get the Inferno out of the box and try to get it running Yeah, that's a typical riverside park here in Japan. Where we are out in the "country", there are lots of kid's parks with grass, dirt and sand pits which is fun. The hard-pack baseball grounds should be fun...! PS. some of those videos from the guys who've tricked up the Tracker are hilarious
  19. ... although the porno soundtrack for this is getting me turned on https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6TPUWzzxw_M
  20. @Wooders28 That's perfect, thanks. I've spotted a couple of those on Amazon here -- that charger also does NiMh, doesn't it? @MadInventor That is a badword of a thing I love the bug catcher! @JNSD1 Thanks for posting that. Unfortunately, their nearest store is about 2 hours and $20 highway tolls away, one way. And their online store is terribly borked, doesn't inspire confidence -- if I could be bothered wading through and trying to make it work Went to the LHS today ... A half-dozen XB models in off-road types, a few kits of older models eg. GH and Hornet first gens, and a bunch of on-road cars A nice Blackfoot, though it wasn't for sale. Monster Tracker is looking like great bang for bucks at the moment...
  21. Sigh again... Watching some Youtube reviews on the Kyosho MT -- looks great, exactly what I'd like. Then I found one for the previous generation of Rage and that looks even better Maybe I really do need 4wd... ...and dang, those Monster Beetles are cute!
  22. Hmm...what with the fire-proof storage things I've noticed online, LiPo is starting to look like more hassle than it's worth
  23. Ok summarizing the options ... prices are roughly US$ for complete kits Amazon Japan so shipping is like $5. DT-03T $190 Kyosho Monster Tracker $180 ($120 on RCmart but $60 shipping) Kyosho Rage 2 $260 RCmart Traxxas Slash/E-revo $200 (...they look like the same chassis...?) + $55 shipping Traxxas Stampede VXL $279 + $50 shipping RCmart used EMS shipping and they're not padding the prices by very much, if at all. That, I really appreciate. It looks like the Kyosho Monster Tracker is leading the race at this stage ... although the Kyosho Rage looks like a better chassis, and that puts the price closer to the Stampede. EDIT: oh, the Rage isn't released yet...end of the month Amazon sellers are saying. http://rc.kyosho.com/ja/rccar/epoffroad/34411t2.html Oh, the E-revo is 1/18 the one I've been oggling is $550...
  24. @87lc2 too pricey three times the options I've been looking at, on the Kyosho homepage. And the fixed axle is too Clod like. Thanks for the suggestion though, I like that body! @ThunderDragonCy yes I can, nothing is blocked here (except pubic hair!) but some places won't ship to Japan...but RCmart does! Neato, thanks. And OMG even cheaper than here Lipo alarm? I'm working through this page to get to grips with the new battery tech...
  25. Thanks everyone! @Johnathon No, I definitely won't be buying a whole bunch First issue is availability. When we first came to Japan, local hobby shops were fairly common but they've closed, one by one, and the few that remain are pretty grim. Everything has gone online, and I don't read Japanese very well. amazon.co.jp is good for me, but the selections are limited and the prices tend to be stupid -- like, $1500 for a $200 buggy. Things that are actually at RRP are few. It's not until page 31 of 57 that they start getting reasonable https://www.amazon.co.jp/s/ref=sr_pg_31?rh=n%3A2277721051%2Cn%3A2189587051%2Cn%3A2189588051%2Cp_n_availability%3A2227306051%2Ck%3Atamiya&page=31&sort=price-desc-rank&keywords=tamiya&ie=UTF8&qid=1543881485 And searching for a specific car means going through every single page, because they don't name things properly I'd probably have more luck paying a few extra bucks and getting things from Tamiya or Kyosho homepage... The Monster Beetle and Blackfoot etc are the ORV chassis, aren't they? I like the look of Baja Beetles, really want a real one Midnight Pumpkin looks good too, but the chassis is the thing -- I've got a Clod, after all. 4wd isn't out, but the skinny front buggies I was looking at first were all 2wd... @Thunder I've been going through threads here and your DT-03T build was a good read. Still very low though, isn't it? No way to increase clearance? I don't want to mess with motors and things too much either -- availability is the issue again. I've done modding on the motorbikes, and found I got sucked into fooling about with them more than I was riding them ... don't want that again. @Juggular Space isn't so much of an issue, we're out in the "country" and have an actual house we even have a yard big enough for a little bashing too. Manta Ray is available on amazon, and that was actually the first buggy I lusted over, back in the 90s Can get Tamiya, Futaba, and Sanwa radios or sets fairly easy too. I have two Sanwa Blaster transmitters at the moment, from the original hobby shop purchase. AM, of course RC in Japan has gone a bit mad on drift cars too, which may explain why there's not much coming out in MT or buggies... @MadInventer too much work if it was a matter of going to the hobby shop with a list, that'd be fine, but reality is having to hunt through pages and pages of stuff and figure out what's Chinese junk and what's not, then find a supplier who's not going to wait six weeks before sending ... and basically, I'm lazy. After reading here, I'd kind of decided on a WT-01 then discovered it was discontinued and there's nothing on amazon correctly priced... So basically, I'd like to build a kit, I'd like a 2wd, I'd like a MT, but they're not deal breakers. Winnowing it down a bit ... These are my options: Kyosho Monster Tracker or Rage 2.0 (no thoughts?) Traxxas Slash or Stampede/HPI Jumpshot/Arma Granite (importing from eBay) Tamiya: DT-03T and a small mod or three TT-02B, DT-03, some sort of buggy. The ORV chassis (Monster Beetle) doesn't inspire confidence though, reading around. You see my problem? I'm oscillating wildly between the MTs and the DT-03T. The buggies are way down the list now...
