First post: howdy all! Let the pestering begin -- apologies in advance!
So-ooo...rewind to 15 years ago.
I got a Clodbuster for a birthday that I played with a short time, then pulled apart with the goal to build a crawler chassis for it. That never happened...and it sat in three different boxes in various locations around the house.
Fast forward to last week -- I was watching a Youtube of some guy build an actual airplane and power it with two RC engines and I remembered how much I liked building stuff, remembered my Clod and thought maybe now would be a good time for to introduce my 5-year-old son to RC stuff.
Got the boxes out and put the Clod back together. After two house moves, the only thing missing was a washer in the steering whatsit which I replaced easily. Charged the batteries, dropped some AAs in the transmitter and ZOOM off it went MSC was a bit twitchy until the layer of corrosion got scrapped off the top...
...but me and the boy have had several fun days of fooling about.
Now I think, maybe I need another ... something.
I actually have a Kyosho Inferno TR-15 nitro that has languished in a (bigger) box for 15 years since I broke *something* and was told there are no spares for it. But I had great fun power sliding that sucker around hard-pack or asphalt surfaces, while it lasted.
And I thought -- maybe a 2wd buggy, maybe that'll "drift" nicely and I like the skinny ribbed front wheels and wide rears.
Electric, cos getting the nitro engine running without stalling always gave me the swear words.
Tamiya, because the Clod is fun and whizz on Kyosho for not having spares. I live in Japan, so it must be easy to get Tamiya stuff surely.
Then I started googling, and stumbled on this place
And ... oh ... **** ... this is getting complicated ...
My thoughts went:
Basher buggy. But ground clearance and not good in grass like we have here...
Got distracted by SCT (Traxxas Slash) -- oh that's cool. But RTR and not a Japanese brand, I *want* to BUILD it. Is there a Tamiya version?
WT-01 -- oh, there are no spares or hop-up bits on the Tamiya website ... oh, it's discontinued. Oh.
DT-03T? Hmm, buggy clearance issues again, but what about with bigger tyres? Hmm.
Oh my, monster trucks! Traxxas Stampede, HPI Jumpshot, Arma Granite -- that's a trip to eBay, I'd prefer Amazon Japan...
Kyosho do a Monster Tracker, that's on Amazon but ... parts?
So, questions:
Kyosho MT, Traxxas, HPI, Arma -- any actual reviews around? I google and all I get is promo blurbs...or a couple for the Traxxas Slash and Stampede that just make me what them.
DT-03T -- can I add bigger wheels and tyres and get a semi-MT for fun?
I want to: blast around smallish parks, power slide/drift, jumps without tricks, have access to spares. I don't want to: go mental upgrading parts (looking for a replacement for the MSC is giving me a headache), mix n' match parts beyond the very basics, worry about spares and I'd really like to run it for about an hour ... poor old 2400mah NiMh batteries last about 10 minutes each...
Any suggestions
