  1. Looks like a custom build to me with those aluminum plates, I've not seen those on shocks before. How much movement do you get from the axles? Might have been a rock crawler... Steering servos on the beefy plates too?

I don't think there's been any changes in parts, apart from cosmetics.

Manual speed controller is horrid, I'd ditch it and go for the Hobbywhatsist 1080-thingy and get LiPo in there. But that's just me...

There's a whole forum dedicated to the Clod: https://www.clodtalk.com

  2. Through a long and convoluted process, I just got a new MBA for some work done, and it's currently on its very first charge  an hour left to go, even. "Cycle charge: 2"

In some ways, the 2009 MBP is a better machine :o Certainly was very good bang for bucks -- got it for $100 from a buddy. Spent maybe $400 on new spares; it's been rocking 16Gb RAM, new speakers, new battery, 850Gb SSD for a few years now...

But it's nice to have everything working now, between my other more modern devices -- got forced into updating my phone too. First English keyboard I've had in years, bit of a struggle to remember where the keys are!

Catalina is a crapfest though, especially Safari. Hoping the older apps I like to use on the MBP still work

Next issue is... nobody wants to collect spent lipo cells!

I put my old battery in the burnable trash ... I like to give the poor workers a bit of a thrill sometimes.

  3. Ah, now I've had a closer look -- not so tempting  80% complete so you need to buy Tx/Rx etc, putting the price closer to the Losi.

The battery compartment makes me wonder too -- I can only just get a 2S LiPo in my Tracker, with the lead bent right over, and when I get stones in the gaps it's difficult to open it at all.

Yeah ok, looking at the manual now ... looks like 2S only. Nuts

  4. Went to Kyosho homepage to look for the parts number for the wheels on the Fazer (which is now discontinued...!) to drop on the Tracker for poops n' giggles, but then I spotted this guy:

    https://rc.kyosho.com/en/rccar/epoffroad/34362.html?___store=rc_en&___from_store=rc_ja

Which looks like a little gem! I'm enjoying the RWD on the Tracker but am really keen on a Losi Baja Rey for the trophy truck amusement and more speed. About half the price of getting a Baja Rey here too...

Tempting eh  that's all, carry on...

  5. Had the battery on my 2009 MacBook Pro explode while I was using it...

The battery had been dicky for a while, was getting "service battery" in the info box, and it was only good for about 60 minutes use off-power. In retrospect, the touchpad was also not working correctly (not "clicking") due to the battery swelling.

So I was typing away when I heard and felt it go "bang!" under my wrists. Thought it was my imagination for a few minutes then something stirred in my memory about the stuck touchpad so I turned the laptop off and pulled the battery.

It'd split the case and bowed about a centimeter

I've seen YouTube of Li batteries failing and was kind of glad mine didn't

Got a new battery off Amazon and the laptop is still going strong. Well, apart from the things I damaged opening the case for the nth time...

  6. I dunno how much this helps, but EMS is what I've used to ship stuff around the world. Tracked and insured. They guarantee less than 2 weeks, but because Japan Post doesn't put the box in a corner to make sure it takes at least two weeks (like USPS etc) it usually takes less than two weeks. Often less than a week...!

Are they sending by courier, or just marking up the shipping to make their money?

  7. I tried to sell two things on eBay...

The first was five years ago: a kiteboard, brand new, wanted $500. Someone "bought it now" and I sent him my PayPal details. Waited for a few days with no reply, then messaged him if he still wanted it. Next I know, eBay contacted me -- he'd opened a dispute saying he'd paid me by bank transfer but I hadn't sent the goods. I had clearly said in the eBay post "PayPal only". eBay closed it but limited how much I could sell per month.

The next item was an inflatable kite, bar and lines. The day before I decided to sell it and posted it on eBay, I used it out for five hours, to make sure there were no issues.

Sold it, shipped it, guy got it and was happy, but then the next week I get a message from him telling me he wants his money back because I got the date wrong (technical matter and I didn't), it wouldn't stay inflated for more than an hour (balls) and something on the bar wasn't working (I actually specifically used that feature for over 30 minutes and it was fine).

After he tried to prove it was leaking, we narrowed it down to a very slightly leaking valve and I refunded him $30 to get a new valve put on. I would've been more reasonable, but his history consisted of him buying cheap kites then flogging them off for another couple hundred bucks more expensive

    So, never again with eBay.

  8. Oh mate, a video from Red Bull of a SCT or TT doing wheelies around sand dunes just popped up in my feed. Drool. I'm so getting a Losi Baja Rey as soon as I can. With an audio things

Yeah Isle of Mann is insanity. There's a good Xbox game that really gives the feel of speed and pants-filling excitement. Can't imagine those nutters doing it for real.

    Sorry, I'm the off-topic king eh :D

lol... I'm glad I didn't list Sanwa.  I'm afraid to tally up the exact amount of my expenditure, for the same reason.

But I generally want to see the numbers.

Our 2004 Subaru was about $20,000.  Next year, it will be an average of $104/month (after 192 months).  That's almost break-even point with buses, which would be $5 a day.  ($104 divided by 20 working days= $5.2)  If I were single, and if I drove it less than 16 years, taking a bus could be cheaper. --Not convenient, but cheaper--  Who even thinks about how long it would take to break even with buses?  I've never commuted on a bus.  (I don't even like math -- just that math is logical...)

Flysky simply came out as the cheapest way to run as many cars as possible.  Disposable income is all different.  A poor student with 5 bashers, a young dad who just got a new job, or a pensioner with a limited income... They might all go for an inexpensive way to enjoy.  (I'm none of the above. But I'm more interested in the mechanics of each car. So I chose to invest in chassis, rather than radio gear. Now that my collection is approaching 30, I'm afraid Sanwa MT-S wouldn't be my first choice)  Unlike me, some choose quality over quantity.  It's all good.

If I raced, however, the response time would be more important than the unit price.  Look at the rallies, every car is souped up.  So, if you are racing, don't be foolish.  Get race-spec transmitters like Futaba or Sanwa.  But for driving a Konghead over deer-droppings in my backyard (not intentionally), cheap stuff would do.

Completely off-topic, but the perfection that is top team rally suspension never ceases to amaze, absorb, and entertain me.

Honestly, how could anyone think F1 is any good when you've to WRC?

I "hear" one mistake ( maybe settings )

The V8 -stationairy-  sounds stays, and they add a "rpm" sound to it..

when you punch it, it should shut down the stationairy sound and do the "rev" sound.

But **** they got the sound seksy !

The "proper" ESS modules apparently have a lot of options for programming, so that could be fixed I guess...

  11.

ESS One sound system -- anyone used one? Do they work with mechanical ESC?

I've seen a few videos and they sound (and functions) a lot better than the budget ones.

Also sound loud enough to hide all the electric whizz and squeaks.

And I want a giant model engine for my Clod too.

I charged my first lipos today and no there isn't the option to have temperature cut off. I need to try and figure out the memory function to store each battery.

If that's like mine, then it's an option ... somewhere :D I keep stumbling on it and thinking "I should really do that" but then move on. Pretty sure it's in general settings...

If you push the < > keys, you get additional information about the battery as it charges too, like per-cell voltage and % full.

Have you tried pressing the arrow buttons during charging? There are additional charging details in there and that's where I find the charger internal and sensor external temperature.

Yes, but as I've said, I've only charged LiPo on it so far so even with the temp sensor on, there's no data. I *assumed* it's only an option with the NiMH charge program...

Going to do the NiMH tomorrow, cos the Clod needs a run and the MT is still coated in mud, and I can here it in the motor :D So we'll see then.
