Roses are red Violets are blue The Mallards are approaching And the Hornet has no clue Yay for page 1000

Yes, for the close-up shots you gotta be near the car. I admit most of my buggies at some point have kicked up pebbles and dirt right in my face (and in some cases, in my wife's face 😱) but hey, the risk is part of the fun! Another way to get good close-ups is to predict where the car will go (after all, we are the drivers) and therefore position your camera accordingly. For example, if you know where the car will jump, you can dig a spot nearby from which your device will be filming, and then just concentrate on the driving. Of course all of that takes patience and a few attempts: just when you think you nailed a good video/shot then you'll find that it's blurry, out of focus, or the phone shifted, you know what it is... but again, it's all part of the fun and personally every time I set out for that I end up happy with a good bunch of pics and vids! It's hard to make a selection on what to post sometimes... Anyway, hope that helped!

Glad you like them. No fancy equipment or timers here, I just use my phone (not a fancy one either) and try to get a bit creative with angles and perspective. I used to be into photography and I do have a decent camera I'd love to get out again, unfortunately it's not with me at the moment so as I said, just the phone for now. I usually take short, high resolution vids, and save the best screenshots off them afterwards. Some other times, my lady agrees to run after the car in motion while taking the video with the phone, which also turns into great pic material. Another good way to get action pics is of course burst shots, but that too needs a second person behind the camera. This is why what always works best is to just find an interesting spot from which to film. Hope these ideas helped, anyway trust me mate all you need is a barely decent phone and some creativity 😃 have fun out there

Looking good so far! It's coming together nicely 👍

The Hornet doing its job!

Back to basics! Wow, I forgot how zippy this guy is. For the past month and a half I've been only running the Big Boss, 'cause with all the slush and mud of the changing season running any other of my buggies would have meant hours of cleaning each time. The Boss is more of a tank than a rocket, and I got used to its pace and sound. Going from that to the Hornet is quite a difference. It's so silent in comparison and hard to keep on its wheels -will flip on obstacles that wouldn't make the Boss flinch- and quite fast. I'm only talking Black Sport Tuned and ball bearings, no Lipo or brushless setup but still, to my standards it flies! Pulling wheelies on grass and all, wow I was missing the feeling of a runner you can enjoy without sweating cold every time it crashes. The handling of the Hornet is delightfully unpredictable, which caters to tons of extra fun. I wouldn't say it's downright undrivable though -withing certain limits- so It's a great challenge to make it go where you want it to at full throttle

I finally acted on the Hornet, it was time to bring the shelf queen down in the dirt to be a runner again. So in a few minutes the car went from this to this In order to keep the "shelf" tires pristine I was going to order new rears and run it with the used ones in the meantime, but they were so worn out that they would have spoiled any off-road fun. So I reluctantly decided to use the new ones and order another pair for the shelf, so I can enjoy the Hornet's full potential while they last. Too bad these tires wear out so fast, their grip is amazing and they look out of control in my opinion. This Hornet has sure seen its battles, I wasn't expecting to dig out this battered body shell again but I'm glad I did, the Hornet's habitat is in nature after all, not on a shelf All revved up and ready to go I know what I'll be driving this weekend.

@ChrisRx718 That looks like a gorgeous, see-through bunch of Porsche bodies! I think I see a 934, a 993 GT2 and... wait... is the bottom one a BMW? 🤔
-
Thanks bud! Can't wait to see it! Yeah I know I got a bit of a mix match in the "shoes" department, HPI wheels with Schumacher rear tires and Losi front ones, but it works great. The Losi front tires came with the car, and still have a lot of life left in them.

Totally agree! 👍

Totally agree with the above. The Hornet is a perfect first choice: easy to build, durable, and TONS of fun! It will also make you lust for more technical and sophisticated models, and that's when the bug really bites... But yes, do wait for the right paint for the shell. Clear shells are made of polycarbonate plastic (or Lexan) and need to be painted with polycarbonate paint, so when you take a hit and the body flexes it won't chip off. I too have heard of successful attempts with alternative paints not made for lexan, but I wouldn't take the chance. If you are planning on using your car, which you are, the wait will be worth the result. Even if you get a second body shell (which I think is a good idea), I say do them justice and use the right paint 😉 I too started back into RC with a Hornet... man you are in for a lot of fun. You are in the right place for whatever advice you'll need, this is a really kind and welcoming community. Enjoy the build!

Took most of the fleet out for a few shots in nature. I'm really feeling like running the Hornet again, will most likely do something to scratch that itch within the week

Thanks for the comments, glad you guys like it!

35 over here, and agreeing with @Falcon#5: we are all sailing the same ship!

Finally finished my RC10 John Player Special. A driver will be added eventually, but the car is now ready.

The RC10 JPS is finally finished! For now, at least: the driver figure is on its way, but who knows how long that will take. At least I know how to paint i, because I know "who" the driver will be...! About the wing, even though I think it looks rather good without it, I decided to put one on eventually. I might replace it with a bigger one in the future, for now I went for this bold little wing and I like how it looks. A bit odd, but quite unlike any other I can think of. Took it for a one minute spin in the patio, it drives smooth and turns sharp and as agile as a snake, wow! To my driving standards at least, the feeling is amazing. Too bad now that it's finished I can't bring myself to dirty it up yet! I guess it will find its good spot on the shelf for a while, so I can enjoy the clean car and the smell of new tires for a little longer! But of course, I'll drive the heck out of it later on. Anyway, hope you guys like it, comments are always welcome. Thanks everybody for the contributions, help and insight.

Thanks guys for your comments and appreciation. New updates, the battery housing is finally figured out. Given the current situation, lockdown and all, I didn't wanna order any bits or parts and wait forever. Hence I was really committed to solving the problem with whatever I had on hand in the garage. After a lot of thinking and some rummaging I came up with this solution... might be a bit overkill and rudimental, but it sure serves the purpose: now I can shake the chassis upside down full force and the battery won't shift a hair. I know it feels a bit odd to see such plastic buckle on an rc car, but it's functional and after being a little perplexed at first it's growing on me now. I'm waiting for a driver figure anyway , which will either cover the buckle or have it slightly shifted in case it doesn't fit. I did fit the shell on and it looks like there will be room for both. Besides the infamous buckle, this bracket below is the main part of the battery holder I devised. I trimmed it from some hard but slightly flexible packaging material, which already proved to be good for similar purpose when I used it on my Hornet some time ago. So, all the ingredients are in the pan now! Wired up and ready to go. I could say I'm getting close to completing the project if it wasn't for the driver still to come, not to mention the wing situation: still haven't made up my mind about that. Nevertheless, the next pics will most likely show the built car so far.

Not today but yesterday. The Chippy came back. I was out working on another project of mine and he showed up hungry, so I took a break and we snacked on the same peanuts You don't wanna talk business on an empty stomach, but after eating we "discussed" the driver thing again. This time I could get so much closer to the little fella! I don't have a racing team, but I'd still get him a lifetime supply of seeds if he agreed on being my driver figure Mmmh I could get used to this... Testing the aerodynamics... So, we ridin'or what?? But can I please... have another peanut?

Might be the isolation, but I'm trying to befriend the chipmunks in the area using the common language: food. This guy and I are starting to get along Now, the Big Boss is the only vehicle in my fleet without a driver. I thought I'd offer the vacant seat to my new bro here, he's still a bit diffident but he's getting into it. More to come in the next days hopefully Firstly, a look under the hood... "Oh I see, a Le Mans 05" "Aaight, let's give this a try" "Yeah baby!" Just chillin (No worries guys, I 'm not crazy yet )

Vintage Scraps + Re-release parts = Lancia Rally Build
Ferruz replied to chuch's topic in The Builds
Gotta love black and gold on race cars! Speaking of that I've just finished an RC10 body in JPS livery, it's here in the builds if you wanna check it out. Godd idea, the prototype. It would definitely be unique, and that rear inlet doesn't seem impossible to reproduce. Check out this one, the EVO 3! apparently one of the last versions, weird back but kinda cool in a way.. The drawing up on the left page is about a 4wd version that I don't think ever happened even as a prototype. Speaking of testing cars, the very fist one off is also gorgeous, but you'd have to lower the external front lights and the stance wouldn't exactly be the same! This is the Lancia Abarth SE 037- 10 replies

Today I finished the shell for my RC10. Wing, and especially driver figure, might be added eventually, but the body is finally done. Hope you like it. More blabber and pics in the build thread.
-
The body shell is finally ready. It took a lot of patiece and pondering but it was well worth it, it came out exactly as I wanted it to so I'm very happy! It might get a wing, still debating that (but I'm working on something...) and it's screaming for a driver, but the body itself is done. The pics aren't great and I haven't wiped off all the fingerprints yet but I'll take much better ones when the car is finished.

Vintage Scraps + Re-release parts = Lancia Rally Build
Ferruz replied to chuch's topic in The Builds
The Martini livery is always a safe bet on the 037 (and most Lancias). Other great looking rally liveries, right off the bat: the Grifone The Totip The Esso It's such a beautiful Group B car, you can't go wrong! The stradale is also a great option...- 10 replies

I agree and confirm that. Glue gun works very well, it helped me salvage a bunch of shells, some of which were close to unfixable. It's flexible, non invasive and eady to remove/redo. But you do have to be careful, as it might melt PS paint. At least the nozzle will for sure! That being said, I think glue gun is the way to go.
