  1. I'm looking for a Marui Shogun, ideally in the best possible conditions that I can afford, to showcase as a shelf queen.

At the same time, I happen to have a Marui Samurai and a Team Associated RC10 Edinger Gold Pan that I could (reluctantely) let go of.

I know that chances are slim, but maybe there's somebody there in the opposite situation! Anybody looking for an R10 or Samurai and willing to let go of their Shogun?

I don't really know how it works here, if the trades/swaps and sales are based on trust, reputation, paypal or what (first time I venture in this part of the forum9), but I had a look through the topics and trades history and it seems that everybody is happy with it! So why not trying, before I venture on Ebay for something I don't really wanna sell anyway.

I know it obviously depends on the condition of the items, but I thought there would be good chances of such buggys having more or less rhe same value (please correct me if I'm wrong!).

Here's a little summary of what I've got to trade, then of course in case of interest I will provide detailed descriptions and more pictures as well as answering any questions one may have.

The 1986 Samurai is a shelf queen, all original, in good conditions especially regarding the aesthetics. Comes with period correct electronics and remote, bench tested and still fully working. In its many years of life t's been used though, so it's far from perfection but still absolutely gorgeous.

The RC10 is a 1984 Edinger edition and comes with original box, manual, diff grease, some spares, and correct Futaba vintage electronics with respective booklets. Original body shell and wheels/tires are missing and have been substituted respectively with a Dahms body shell and HPI wheels/tires, both vintage (late '80s I think) and with their mini-booklet and spare hub adaptors. It's a runner and is also no stranger to scuffs and marks, that being said it's in overall very good conditions. It screams for some tlc: stripping, cleaning, ballf diff tuning, shocks refilling and all that, amyway all the wealth is there for a proper restoration (which was actually my intention when I bought it in the first place).

    Here's the Samurai

    p.jpeg?fv_content=true&size_mode=5

    and the RC10

    p.jpeg?fv_content=true&size_mode=5

So yeah if anybody is interested let me know, and maybe with some patience and proper communication we'll sort something out! :D

One little final twist: I am based in Canada which will not make things easier, though I'm sure it's still doable .

    Cheers!

  2. Such a gorgeous looking buggy, esthetically speaking my all time favorite.

I've lost quite a few auctions on ebay trying to get one, I'm still hoping I'll be able to someday, though they don't come up often...

    Nice job on your refurbishing.

  3. There's just one negative point about this re-re: that we'll have to wait until end of April.

I can't fathom over two more months looking at this thread every day in the delusional hope of somebody declaring that there will be an earlier release.

Preordering? That would just make me sink deeper and simmer in my lust, so that I'd become a warped, Gollum-like figure by the time the kit reaches my hands.

So maybe at this point the most logical solution would be to buy a not-so-cheap Kyosho Turbo Optima gold edition kit and scratch that itch in the meantime.

...but then the Terra Scorcher would finally come out and I'd still be licking my wounds (financially speaking) hence i wouldn't be so gung-ho about getting one right away... or still, would I?

I'm confused. I'm usually ok to wait, but this time I feel just like a spoiled rich kid at the carnival: I want it all and I want it now!

In other words,I'm getting way too enthusiastic about this new re-re

  4. Purchasing re-release kits does definitely spark nostalgia in me, although also in my case I've never owned one when I was a kid.

My first hobby grade RC was second hand, which took away the building/box art/nice-blister-layout part, even though as a kid it didn't really matter: it was there, it was mine and it was mighty, and that's all I cared about.

Up until that second hand rc came, the fact of not owning one certainly didn't prevent me from fantasising and drooling in front of the hobby shop window whenever I had the occasion, so now whenever I get to build a re-re the enjoyment is somehow boosted with a sense of accomplishment and the finished model feels "familiar" right away, maybe also because of all the times I dreamt about it through my childhood!

Come to think of it, if I may elaborate, my whole take on RC is pretty much nostalgia-based. If on a general level I can appreciate anything rc oriented, whenit comes to my interest it's exclusively about re-res and/or vintage. I love how much character the old animal-based Tamiyas have and everything around it: box art, peculiarities, how they drive, how they get to be so naive and bold at the same time. But most of all, I love the feelings they evoke, which I might as well summarize as pure 80's magic.

I don't think I'd ever buy a "modern" buggy, I'm sure they are awesome in terms of performance, durability and more, but they lack all the personality and character that I seek in a car. I'm a lot into bashing and jumps so a Traxxas could probably suit my needs way more than a re-re Tamiya, but I'd rather be careful with a gorgeous Hornet or spend an entire night repairing it after a crazy session rather than outperforming it with a great rc I don't feel nothing for. But that's just me.

One last thing that quite seals the deal about nostalgia for me is that I got around to fixing the aforementioned second hand rc that was my first hobby grade: it sat in a garage for 22 years, unattended but not forgotten and now, a grown man one ocean and a continent away, I run it almost everyday. But that's another story, that I would actually love to share whenever I find the time to lay it down properly.

Thuth is, for whoever sees it this way, we live in golden times: we can get all the fun of yesterday at an affordable price and with some improvements of today. Long life to all the re-res and may Tamiya re-issue more and more!

  5. I find this one absolutely gorgeous. Found on the Tamiya club website itself, in the showroom of the member F2 stu.

It's said to be based on the junior Black Special edition (mini 4wd), and I think he dod a great job!

If I had a Super Astute I would probably do something similar, although in this case I find the box art white almost as beautiful.

At the end of the day, whatever colour that can bring those decals to life!

  6. My wife just got a nice old cabinet from her granny, which ended up in our livingroom. I was kindly given access to two of its four shelves, well guess what I've decided to display in them.

I find the buggys, the cabinet itself and whatever else is in there so odd together that they almost don't even clash anymore. Or if they do, I won't let it intimidate me anyway :P

Sure thing, our livingroom looks much nicer now.

  7. I've installed a couple of upgrades as well as some improvised protection wraps around the electronics to help insulate the car for the long winter months ahead.

These rudimental shields are little more than just plastic bags cut to fit around the electronics and secured with heat glue but, although not exactly nice to look at, they seem to work very well for now.

I've just tested the buggy in an extremely wet environment (skatepark after heavy rain, ponds all over, some very deep) an it had no problems whatsoever for the whole session, I'm quite happy with that.

The upgrades installed are: Sport Tuned motor, 21T pinion, hard steel rear swing shafts, new wheels and tires with a slightly bigger diameter than the originals.

Here are some pics of the parts and some snapshots of the action.

I apologize in advance if they don't show up or if the link doesn't work: like a few others here, I seem to have ran out of space on the forum so am trying to figure out alrernative ways to keep sharing pics

  8. I want to install a Sport Tuned motor on the buggy. It's going to be the current edition, the silver can with sticker. I thought I managed to order a black one but that's what I found in the mailbox, oh well..
I was wondering, will it be good to go with the  TBLE02 ESC just like the old black Sport Tuned is?
I've been running a black one on my Hornet for over two years without a problem so I know it's good, but what about the new one? is it in any way different than the black sport tuned as far as you know?
I've noticed that Tamiya states 23T on the box, when in the old one it just wasn't specified, hence my doubts as the ESC instructions specify that it's compatible with Sport Tuned OR motors that are over 25T.
Once again, it basically comes down to the endless debate: is the Sport Tuned 23T or 27T?
That doesn't really matter to me, but I'd like to know, has any of you tried the new Sport Tuned with that esc?

I have a feeling it's gonna work just fine, but still preferred to ask, thanks everybody in advance for any shared knowledge or feedback!

  9. I finally managed to run the Manta Ray at a bmx track that I've been eyeing for a while.

    I had a blast!

It felt like the track was built specifically for buggys, probably also because it's the closest thing to an actual rc track that I've ever experienced.

Thanks to my wife's patience, we managed to get some photos and footage.

Flying it off those smooth dunes was real fun.

  10. Well thanks for the reminder<_< :D

But no, give it at least a couple more months (more or less)!

Anyway yep, it's quite unbelievable how the weather here manages to get from extremely cold to extremely hot and than back to cold within one year... and every year it does it again and again though deep inside you still think to yourself: "It's not gonna be that cold this time, after such a hot summer" and then... it just does.

I'm not from here and I sincerely hope to end up somewhere warmer soon but, as I said before, bottom line is it's the perfect weather for off road rc! The only thing quite missing in my area are sandy beaches, but we get pretty much anything else on the Earth's menu in terms of terrain/weather conditions. Hard on the cars, but a lot of fun.

  11. And this was today, a run with the Manta Ray through the autumn foliage.

After a last run through the woods, the car came back with a "present".

I did't place it like that, it was just sitting on the bumper when the buggy came back and I took the photo! Maybe I should have eaten it

  12. Went out for a hike with my wife yesterday, on the way back to the car I noticed a BMX track that is perfect for rc. Fortunately I had my rig in the trunk!

The video taken was bad quality, also cause it was dusk, but I saved up a couple screenshots just to get the idea. Gotta get back there, great jumps and a lot of fun!

  13. Got back to my rc models after 5 weeks away. Even though I was on vacation, I missed them!

I replaced the good old Le Mans 05 Stock motor of my Big Boss with an hpi Firebolt 15 T that I had sitting around for a while.

It turned out to be pretty fast, considering also that the old NiMh wasn't even fully charged!
