  1. Great work. I think those small issues (the pimple on the grill, the wonky light etc) are part of its history and give it a unique personality. Seems a shame for a renovation to remove every blemish.
  2. Rookie error, thanks @Willy iine Embarrassingly, I did Google which way round they went, found plenty of photos of them fitted both ways. Obviously chose wrong
  3. Chassis finished, driver finished, body “finished” (still have to get a fuel can and repaint the spare wheel). The grill repair turned out really well, and everything else cleaned up nicely. I’m so pleased with the result, thanks to everyone for the moral support Well worth the time and effort.
  4. If the grill was more damaged I'd replace it, but the rest of it is (mostly) OK. Seems a shame to replace a 30-yr old part for one missing upright. Let's see how the repair turns out
  5. I know exactly what you mean, I spent hours concentrating on each tiny brush stroke. I just don't have the skill to make the faces look as realistic as I'd like, or the eyes as detailed. How you leave such a thin black line around the iris is beyond me. That said, I might buy another Willy sometime and have a go at camo
  6. Offcut from a Tamiya parts spruce cut down, shaped and glued in place.
  7. Spent far too long doing this over the weekend. The silver lines were to cover up my terrible masking but I’m happy with the result.
  8. This was my plan for the helmet mask up the face paint whole helmet white mask up top 3/4 paint lower 1/4 blue mask up bottom 3/4 paint top 1/4 red It was all going to plan, but I'm having trouble with step 5. Any suggestions on how to leave the 'red' section unmasked? I've been trying to just keep a consistent distance from the top of the blue, but it's not going well. Trial and error, or is there a better way of doing it?
  9. Wild Willy M38, Audi Quattro and Willy's Wheeler ... the trifecta
  10. Some progress. Chassis taken apart and cleaned, all metal parts (including springs) removed and polished.
  11. @Willy iine That's immaculate Although, you've put a black line under the blue too. Back to the drawing board for me
  12. Does anyone know the boxart colours for painting the Wild Willy M38 driver? Not the face, but the body and helmet? It looks to me like white overalls with dark brown (or black?) gloves and boots, red harnesses and silver buckles. The helmet is red, white and blue ... but I can't make out if there's a thin black line underneath the red, or how dark the blue is supposed to be. Also, any tips for masking up the helmet would be greatly appreciated ...
  13. Thanks @simensays I already grabbed a copy of that. The old manuals aren’t as simple as they are now, I’m pleased I never built one of these as a 10 yr old How does the front bumper come off? The springs on mine are rock solid, is it brute force or is there a trick to it?
  14. Yikes. Ok, I’ll give it a go. I guess the other option will be to snap the two radiator mounts, fix the grill, then glue the radiator back onto the mounts.
  15. No Willy Just started stripping it down. Quick question, does the front grill just slot into place? All the screws are out, but it’s not moving. It could be glued, but I don’t see any. Not sure what to do …
  16. First impressions are how big and stocky these things are. I was expecting it to be a lot smaller and lighter. Obviously built to last. Everything seems to be ok. Very dirty and faded, and everything has threadlock and glue on it, but it will be a fun restoration.
  17. Two, that’s outrageous where are these, eBay.nl ?
  18. That’s awesome. Is it just a lunchbox chassis, new wheels & tyres, shorter shocks and a Montero body, or is there a lot more to it?
  19. Wow, he’s turned a vintage Pajero into a Montero, why would you do that?! Can’t make it out from the photos, but is that metal plate on top of the chassis?
  20. Bah, too late! Were they sold on here?
  21. If anyone has an unwanted vintage Pajero 58044, could you let me know. There’s one on eBay at the moment for £250 but there must be more looking for a new home. I’ll be restoring it so it doesn’t matter what condition it’s in.
  22. That’s so kind, thank you! I’ll have a measure up this evening and let you know
