Thanks 🙂 it's been fun to rebuild, the simple things seem to work the best.

Yesterday the other set of red wheel nuts turned up and the 20mm blanking grommet so at work this morning I fitted both of them just the tyre pen to turn up now 🙂 Stopping the dust from getting in. Pretty much complete now.

I fitted the suspension back on and done a little bit more wire dessing on the aerial and fitted some lithium AA's in to. I've got a few small bits left to do when they turn up me and my son have had fun fitting it back together and he's looking forward to me taking out to the forest to drive it🙂.

Taking my time tonight I reconditioned the suspension I could of just cleaned and refilled the shocks but to makes sure I put all new internals in. I'm happy with how they feel now.

Today I only done a few small bits at work, re-soldered the yellow wire as it was falling off and a bit of wire dressing. Reconditioning the suspension will be next.

Last night we sorted out the front cleaning and replacing the arms ect with new plastic and alloy colour coding it some more 🙂 Then fitting it back together. It's coming together nicely.

Today I made a protective plate/battery pad at work with some plastic sheeting and foam we use for our brackets to protect the battery from any stones or sharp objects piercing the battery and to keep the dust out plus stop the battery bouncing around. the battery I'm using I got some foam to protect and pad out the AA batteries in there case to stop it moving. I then fitted the tyres onto the new front wheels when I was home and fit the bearings ready. Then fitted the heat sink with a little modification to two of the fins so the bar can fit in holding it all together.  Hopefully tomorrow me and my son will replace the front arms and get the front wheels on 🙂.

First of all a big thank you to all the members that gave me there time and information to help me do this build 🙂. Yesterday afternoon I decided to start the renovation of the wild one my friend gave me. So I started on the back arms ect stripping it down cleaning and putting the new parts on ( metal bearings, new oval rear arms ect )  It came with some other drive shafts so I took the boots of them as they were in better condition, then dived in to building the new gear box with metal bearings all round. The old gear box isn't in that bad condition 🙂 Then refitted it all back with some new wheels and red nuts ( sons choice ) and a diff gard. Not a bad evening spent 🙂 more will be done tonight.

Thanks for the modification up date it mite be a while until I do the suspension I'll get my head around rebuilding the gear box and getting the other bits fitted 🙂, which oil is best as I've read about different colours for soft or hard set up.

Ah that makes sense 👍🏻 The kit turned up the over day I'm just waiting for all the other bits to turn up now. My son will have fun rebuild it with me

Hi willyChang Thanks for the information I won't worry about the metal arms then, I was do a read up on the motors and I'm happy to keep the standard motor from all the post I've seen about the gearbox being temperamental. I'll read up on reconditioning the standard shocks then 👍🏻 I will get a esc at some point then when I've got the exact money 🙂

Hi Nicadraus that was the answer I was hoping for I'll order the metal arms soon then start on ordering all the gear box parts as that bit will be jumping in the deep end to rebuild 😋 Thanks 🙂

Thanks it has the odd scrape on it from use, sadly it did show it's age today and a front wheel cracked my son was really upset but I said I'll get it fixed so new wheels bearings and the ally uprights have been ordered to start the update rebuild.

Thanks for the welcome mongoose1983 and Juggular 🙂 The local model shop said about replacing the old esc and motor he said for about £50 but I was just trying to get it running on the cheap incase it didn't work. So just to check and was was looking at getting the bearings from ( the time tunnel ) with new wheel there's only 1 bearing per wheel and with the 3 in the gear box so only 7 bearings on the machine? Hears a picture list of bits I'm looking at getting. Front and rear metal arms with the ally upright, a motor heat transfer, diff gard, new suspension and I saw on another model solid adjustable stearing linkage which I thought was a good idea plus sort the gear box maybe do the frog mod or Thorp Diff if I had the money 😋. Is all of the I've said worth the time and effort? Plus this was the silicone Lube the shop recommended?

Hello I'm new to the rc scene because of a friend at work gave me his vintage wild one to get working again. so I could use it with my son. so I took my time cleaning the electrics up and testing before buying the battery for it and after 25 years of it being in a loft it set off fine 🙂. I've been doing my research and reading up on the history of the wild one as I've got a feeling I'm going to have to rebuild the gear box as it's making a clicking sound and it's a bit jolty and part of the casing is cracked plus some new wheels are needed. so I'm looking at slowly rebuilding and upgrading drive gear and suspension 🙂
