  1. £20 got me a boxed Subaru TG10 MK1 with radio gear, fuel, glo starters etc ;) ,. apparently the radio gear has an intermittent fault,.(looks like a dodgy battery cradle so far )

Now then, how easy should it start?,. I had a quick 10min effort this afternoon,. but then realised I was just flooding it,  I have one of the glo starters on charge at the mo so I will have another bash tomorrow (just tested the plug,. it glows nicely)

OOh yes,. stopping the engine,. whats the best way?

    Cheers for any tips!

  2. Could anyone on here help me out with a bank transfer to <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" />Germany?  ,..  the guy doesn’t take Paypal but will take a bank transfer (which I cannot do)

    <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

I would send you the required amount via paypal (+ any charges you incur) + repay you with a favour if needed in the future!

Alternatively does anyone know how much my bank would charge me to arrange such a transfer?

    Cheers

  3. Agree with Steve ,.imo there is nothing special about the re-releases,. I had a friend round a while ago and showed him my collection - his eyes lit up and he transformed from a normal 30 year old into a 12 year old kid again, he couldnt believe all these old cars he'd wanted all those years ago sat in front of him.....[:P]

So there you go,.a perfect example of what its all about for me, the feeling and the memories you get from these 20+ years old cars,.... similar to when you sit inside or have a ride in a 1:1 classic car,. nothing new can create that feeling[8D]

Then there is the money debate, re-releases are good because you cannot afford the originals.... I havent found it that easy,. lots of saving, placing adverts in papers/shop windows, trailing round car boots every Sunday and selling my old tat have all paid off in the end,. I would die for an E Type Jag ,. but if Jaguar released them again i'd still want the old one,. even if it cost me lots more effort etc [:P]

  4. Been toying with the idea of getting a Marder, .. Ive seen vids of the buggy before and it looks great fun,.. Never seen a monster beetle though,. only seen one in a model shop on the counter (I wanted one just looking at it!)

Thing is if I did decide to get one I just wouldnt be able to choose which one!, which is best?

  5. I have my eye on an item on ebay thats based in the states,. trouble is they accept no paypal[xx(], only Postal Orders or Bankers Drafts,.

I could go ahead and send uSD by registered post, but I just wondered if one of our kind uS subscribers would be able to help me out by sending postal orders for me? - I would simply send my payment to you beforehand via paypal, taking into account any paypal and postal charges you incur.

    Cheers

  6. I recently strpped my old Ascona shell,. 1st I got a spray can of Isopropanol (sp?) alcohol ,. liberally sprayed the inside of the shell then put inside a plastic bag to stop it evaporating.

Then after half an hour or so I got stuck in with the rounded edge of a teaspoon - I found that the paint softens enough to scape it off , you have to repeat this lots though due to the alcohol evaporating,.

I did try the nitro fuel method,. I used a 20% mix,. found it didnt really do much at all,..until I painted it on the inside of the shell then left it on a shelf in the garage for 2-3 weeks,.(sort of got fed up with it[:)]) ,. had another go with the teaspoon and the paint was very soft and came off very easily.

I have my Audi Quattro shell to strip in the future,.I think I will just try the nitro + leave for ages method on its own this time.

  7. For me the fun of old Tamiyas is in the finding and restoring processes, Nothing can beat that 'heart in the mouth' feeling of walking round a flea market/boot sale and stumbling across one.

Or like what happened to me a few months ago - having a reply to my newspaper ad and ended up standing underneath some blokes loft hatch in Derbyshire while he handed down 4 (yes 4!) old Beatties bags each containing treasure - like netsmith says getting one off the shelf just isnt the same [V]

Scoring the parts from ebay is fun also (albeit sometimes expensive[:I])

I have a Frog runner, luckily I got it for peanuts , though had i spent a lot on a minter I would be seriously thinking about putting it on the bay - yes there would be the worry of future value but also and more importantly its lost its OLD appeal.

  8. I stripped a Scorcher shell (the yellow one in my showroom) on Tuesday in 1 hour!,.

How? ,. with caustic soda (very nasty stuff - so you NEED goggles + rubber gloves + long sleeve top to protect yourself)

I use 2 tubs (bought from Wilko's called Kleen-Off causic soda - £1.20 a tub) in 10 litres of water in a bucket - always add the soda to the water never the other way around! ,.. sat the rear of the body in the solution for 1/2 hour,. then used the green scouring side of a kitchen sponge to wipe the paint away,. then stuck the front half in and did the same.,.

I now do all my bodies like this, . the solution stays effective for a fair while so I try to do 2 or 3 at a time,. as long as you take prcautions you will be fine[:D]
