  1. The Sup’ family went to Big Bear For the week for some sledding and snow crawling. My 6yr old son sledded into another kid, epically wiping out the kid. Proud dad here… On the way back we stopped to visit the crawling compound of YouTube user “drisotope”.   2. That a downer. My whole family got it last year. Amazing how transmissible it is. Keep positive air pressure in the uninfected portion of the house and your window cracked open so they stay healthy. Hope you heal well and fast.

  7. That is lovely! What an exquisitely simple chassis. I’ve fantasized about a 4wd pan-car for years. Bet it’ll be a joy to drive with the high downforce shell.
  8. Alberto / Ampro discusses the durability of 3D printed parts in some of his early Hornet & Grasshopper front suspension videos. Drive cups and dogbones are unique in the way that they are constantly chafing. The 3D parts I have seen have a textured finish which I assume would further accelerate wear. Knowing your nature, Saito2, you have already checked for replacements and parts compatibility to no avail. The upside is that if you were to replace your worn parts with 3D components, the worn components really couldn’t be any worse off than they already are. Perhaps you could even coax Alberto into making a recommendation to you on the type of material.
  9. Good choice, and worth the wait. I initially purchased the Sport in order to get the added flexibility of the fiberglass chassis for parking lot racing. I spent more in upgrading the suspension and drivetrain components than if I had purchased the Pro. In stock form, I broke mine on it’s maiden voyage by hitting a trash can. It broke the front C-hub and drive cup. I doubt a similar impact with a Tamiya M07 would have produced the same damage. After a thorough evaluation, a number of suspension and drivetrain components that looked like “weak links” were upgraded on the Sport; some to increase strength and some to improve operation. The aluminum parts on the Pro make it a much more robust car leaving just the C-hubs, front and rear, as the only weak links.

  13. I have one of the 3racing M4 kits. It’s a reasonably good M-chassis. Parts availability is excellent with RCmart and decent with Integy. It shares components with some of the other 3racing touring cars (I’ve spent countless hours cross-referencing part numbers on their website). The best upgrade for either of the 2 chassis variations (Sport or Pro) is aluminum C-hubs and soft damper springs. The Pro version is quite sexy. For the 210 wheelbase, it will require a shorty battery. I believe it is wider than the Tamiya M-chassis cars. Under a Lunchbox body, the wheels would protrude a lot. I built it in the 225 wheelbase option, but I can get measurements and post up if you wish, JeffSpicoli.
  14. You would likely A motor in the 35-55t range and possibly an Axial AE5 speed control will yeild excellent low speed control. There's likely a Hobbywing equivalent, but I don't know which.
  15. I rarely see Tamiya-based conventions in SoCal, and I get the idea that the general USA attitude toward Tamiya is similar. There are several RC related events around, such as crawler events sponsored by Pro-Line and Axial as well as countless sanctioned off-road and touring car race events. The multitude of comments towards Tamiya I hear are "Tamiyas are slow", "Tamiyas break easily", "all made of plastic", or just "Tamiya sucks". Traxxas has tainted the marketplace with the "faster is better" mentality and RTR's to make it "easy" to enter the hobby. As enthusiasts, we understand the premise is "models suitable for RC", with emphasis on building and hop-ups and learning. This is where the proportionately smaller niche of USA Tamiya fans fit in. I just don't see the regional density of fans great enough to support gatherings. On the lighter side, I do see that the more popular YouTube channels are beginning to add Tamiya RC's to their repertoire of new videos. Hopefully popularity increases in upcoming years.
  16. How fast would like the Unimog to travel? Out of the box with a silver can it will do approx 15 mph. That's a fun speed for bouncing around the grass a brisk pace. If you want crawler speeds to creep over obstacles with precision under 1-2 mph, it will require some modification. The diff gears are "pot-metal" if I am not mistaken. They are reasonably strong and unlikely to skip. Tamiya anti-wear grease in the diff is a good compromise between open diff and lockers. Some of the CC-01 kits came with diff gears AND an insert to lock the diff. Not sure if the Unimog comes with but it can be purchased separately: Diff locker for front or rear - Tamiya CC-01 XC Pajero Wrangler Unimog MU 1 pair | eBay The CC-01 chassis is extremely versatile and takes well to a huge array of modification for every type of terrain.
  17. Didn't eBay and PayPal merge several years ago? If I am not mistaken, there's a listing fee and a PayPal fee associated with transactions. Am I mistaken, or is that double-dipping? Do they charge both seller and buyer (triple-dipping)?? I admit, I frequently and blindly use ebay to buy goods merely out of convenience.
  18. I do recall the Radiant with the odd blockish orange arms and gold dish wheels. Your Stampede is a fantastic nod to the original chassis. The body and graphics turned out great. It looks like one of the project cars found in the late 80’s issues of RCCA jumped out into today.
  19. What a conundrum! In the event it is true, does one order the the Mid, or hold off in hopes for the Turbo, SE or Custom? Which models will they re-re? I bought a Scorpion to convert to a Tomahawk. Then they did the Beetle, so I got a Beetle. Then they released the Tomahawk. All I really wanted was a Beetle, but I’m stuck with all 3 plus 1 Sidewinder clone.
  20. They’re supporting the hobby. From the manufacturer’s perspective, units are being sold and demand is present, thus preventing bankruptcy. There’s nothing more disappointing than seeing a long-time manufacturer go belly up. In the case of limited release items, it is frustrating when those with “inside connections” purchase multiple units for the purpose of inflated resale. But such is the way of the world. The rest of us just have to be on our toes and commit to pre-orders.
  21. I suggest checking the Safety Data Sheets (section 3) for these products to confirm compatibility with polycarbonate or any other substrate before use.

  23. A little gob of dielectric grease or some silicone sealant works reasonably well.
  24. Not today, but over the weekend, family crawl day with my daughter’s freshly re-vamped Element. Maiden voyage with the Revolver motor, Hyrax tires, and Cliffhanger body. The only stock parts left on it are the dampers, frame rails and axle housings……lucky kid.
