  1. Hi Folks, Quick history question. After recently building a NIB original ClodBuster, with everything dated 1987, I got interested in this whole 'what grill has it got?' 'Does it have a Chevy badge?' thing. Now, my truck isn't the Chevy one, instead it has the 4x4x4 type decal set. The manual, interestingly has a shot of the built truck in action (as usual) but over where the Chevy badge would have been is a small white box, added at the print stage. Anyone know why the change of heart between Chevy and Tamiya? Why would a major car manufacturer want to end a relationship with a major model maker and vice versa? Thanks!
  2. Hi all. 2 posts so far this year, I am on a roll I have what I feel may be a painfully dull and obvious question. I have just ordered myself a Super Clodbuster, Speedmaster Silver Star Ultra ESC, MG055 servo and other O & S as part of a throwback to my youth spur of the moment decision on my next project. I am looking forward to the build and took plenty of advice on board from this forum (I read nearly all of them but have so little to say!). One thing I would really appreciate is if anyone has the time to post or point me towards a couple of pictures showing the conenctivity of a twin motor system to this particular ESC and point out any dumb thnigs I should look out for. I am guessing I need to run the motors in parallel but have no previous experience of twin motor builds. Sorry if this is going over old ground but it is a visusal reference I am really looking for. Many thanks
  3. I feel sorry for whoever it is at Tamiya that has to make these decisions as I am sure the workload and costs involved in getting these models designed, created and on sale is immense. That said, accountants run most businesses these days so like you say, sell a lot of a few models than a range that has a car everyone wants yet still has a model that will sell in much fewer numbers. When looking at the Tamiya USA website you also realise how many of the more military (non tanks) models are also discontinued. I suppose all this does show a true classic in that sense, re res of the Brat, Lunchbox et al still shows that Tamiya is catering for us 30+ types yet the more modern range is there for a newer or race tune audience.
  4. Hi there, sorry if this is bit of a numpty question but I was wodnering if anyone had any idea on what makes Tamiya decide to discontinue a model? The reason I ask is that I have an itch for a new build and for it to be something I havent' tackeld before and the only thing I have no experience of is anything with two motors. The Dualhunter seems appealing but in a hankering back to my 'yoof' I was looking at getting a monster truck to also allow my present day, Monster Jam fantasies to be lived out. I notcie that on that side of things the choice seems to be anything you like as long as it is a Super Clodbuster. Whilst this will probably suit my needs of a different build, different drive experience etc, I really fancied the now unavialble Juggernaut 2. I really liked the idea after my experience with building a high lift to make it's bigger brother if you will. Any ideas what makes Tamiya stop producing a certain model? Seeing the number of Jugg's that are on TC I find it hard to believe they sold any less than other models in the range? Musing over!
  5. Hi all. Just to let you kow that I have just posted my Dark Impact on ebay, item 200174999331. Basically I really enjoyed the build but haven't touched it since and I also feel the DI is begging out for more attention and tweeks than I can offer it. Thought I would point it out to you guys (sorry UK posting only, I forget how truly international TC is!)
  6. Wonderful, a job for one of the wet and windy days we sem to be having so much of now!
  7. Hi there, I have a Pershing and love it to bits. It was a real challenging build and I really enjoy driving the thing. The only thing that got me slightly loopy is just how much is crammed into the hull and how trick some of the cabling is. Bluefoot, really intersted in your transmitter mods, how did you do that if you don't mind me asking?
  8. Many thanks for your thoughts, that's an evening taken care of!
  9. Hi folks, have been struggling to get my new built DI behaving properly. Mainly due to a seeming inability to get the diff's tightened 'just right' so they don't come loose on the first sharp turn. My first time with this sort of diff, much swearing has occured Anywho, the main question of my post is 'who actually can change their battery without taking off the bodyshell, using just the trapdoor style access?' I'm blowed if I could get the right combination of ESC positioning, cable length, not rubbing on drive shaft or fowling the steering servo, to make this possible! Could just be my manly fingers can't co ordinate for love nor money.
  10. Ridiculously late to this thread but...Pershing all the way! Purrs around beautifully and sounds awesome. Sorry, not the in depth, advice loaded answer of many but it's my tuppence worth!
  11. Ah yes, good point - I have a High Lift and sould of thought of that! My most recent build was a Pershing and that, I am sure, featured bags with markings!
  12. Surely buying a new F350 was a simple solution? Granted, it has a certain financial implication but needs must and all that!!!!
  13. Hi there! Preemptive apologies if this is either A) something that has already come up or a really namby point to make . After carrying home my freshly delivered Dark Impact on the Central Line, I got home and set about 'a couple of hours to start things going'. My first surprise was that the metal parts bag have lost the wee bit of card that was helpfully stapled on with a big letter to let you know which parts bag it was. Is this a new Tamiya thing? I used to like emptying the bags into a little drawer unit and sticking the cardboard ID in the front to aid the build. My only other negative at the moment, echoes someone elses on TC that the gear box cover does seal down properly, defeating the object somewhat. Other than that, so far an enjoyable build - how getting Tamiya grease all over the place can make you feel so good I will never know
  14. Hi folks! Thanks for the great replies - sorry for lack of input from this end, I have been parted from my PC for the weekend (family visits etc) and am now recovering for the lack of PC generated fun. Well, the DI is wending it's way to me thanks to Modelsport and I am going to get into the build, try out some of the components I have then look inot my final ESC choice! Having said that, nothing is final in this hobby Oh and thanks for the hop ups advice - I can see this being a long running explanation to the wife as to why I need xx and cc is realy going to help etc!
  15. Hi folks! 3 forum posts from me in one month, this is a new PB I am looking at putting some cash to good use on a Dark Impact but I've read some comments mentioning that both the DF02 & 3 have not got much room inside for electrics and the install of gear will have to be quite precise and tidy etc. To that end, I wondered if a few DI owners could share their choice of ESC and give me any tips on the install? I normally favour something like the LRP AI Runer series as it is waterproof and offers reasonable value for money - will it fit ok? I am looking at popping in a 19x2 or thereabouts (not brushless or anything wild) and the cash supply isn't endless so the most I would want to spend on the ESC is around 40-50. Anybody using a mini reciever at all or does the regular Acoms unit fit in ok? Thanks in advance for any thoughts/suggestions/witty comments etc! CPT Dar Impact? Man, if only GCSE's were easier in my day, my spelling would be better!
  16. So sorry for not responding sooner but sadly, I went away to watch Ultraviolet on Sky and came back to find the Touareg has been sold! I guess it must have been someone from TC as the listings haven't appeared yet! Thanks for your interest. Simon
  17. Hi folks. Just thought I would mention I am now selling some items on the bay. A King Blackfoot, TL01RA, Touareg and complete RTR M03L Mini (BMW) are up for grabs along with an HPI RS4 Rally - bit of an impulse buy a couple of years back, thought I 'had' to have one for some reason! Due to my all round inept-ness at anything to comlpex with Ebay, here is a simple list of the item numbers. Strangely enough, the items are shown as listed but Ebay reckons I have nothing for sale - maybe the magical t'internet cogs are still turning. 200143567289 Touareg 200143568484 King Blackfoot 200143569496 TL01RA Impreza 200143570632 HPI RS4 Rally 200143566128 - Mini Please have a butchers. Ta!
  18. Hi there, first time post from a long time 'lurker' as they say. I have been a member of TC for a while now and greatly enjoy being part of this community, albeit not such an active one! I have posted this mail in this particular forum as I am after some advice on the best way to sell some RC gear. I am having bit of a clear out to allow me to get into more project based builds after recently enjoying the High Lift and a M26 Pershing build. Sadly my time spent driving my RC collection has plummeted so some of them have got to go to a new home where they will be driven as they should. The cars and gear I plan to sell are:- M03L Mini (BMW bodyshell) - driven once to test, reasonably good paint job. ESC, bearings, motor and RX installed. King Blackfoot - well driven but in good working order, again all electronics included and oil shocks all round. Body sprayed blue, don't ask. VW Touareg - as per blackfoot in terms of conditions and electronics. TL01RA - The Subabru bodied Stadium Raider type thing, with the spikey wheels. Great car, well driven but still goeas like stink. All electrics incl. HPI RS4 Rally - Subaru body and recently added new inner bodyset. Pretty much as standard. 2 x Acoms 2CH - regular radio set with crystal sets for all cars. 2 x fast chargers 4 Nicads I can part with. My question is how best to bundle them up when I put them on Ebay. Will a particular model have better appeal so it wont need to be bundled with controller for example? Obviously I don't have enough gear to make each car RTR but which two should I bundle up? Sorry if this is a daft question but I figure if anyone can give me some advice it's the members of TC! Cheers
