LED Orange Beacon came today, so I used some Evergreen Sheet styrene to fabricate a mount. Also utilized solder for ring braces. This is getting fun Filled in the ejector mark holes in the rear spare. Going to use a small removal cap to cover the screw hole and get it prepped for the Tiger mural. Installed the NOS Bottle, Willy, steering column and painted his seat Olive Drab. Waiting on a new decal sheet to arrive for the instrument panel and then glue it in place. Also, it looks like I can start on the template for the canvas top tonight. I have an extra US Army issue shelter half that is the perfect material.

The one on the right Mongoose, the tan color. The other choice looks like a giant Hershey bar or something the Easter Bunny dropped off. Watching this one as I've always been curious to the body stripping methods shown around here. -
Bumper on. Much better Paint is drying nicely too Crummy Iphone photo

Thanks man! My buddy owns a masonry company and my house is a colonial bungalow

Willy gets some paint. Lots of mistakes, lots to fix and the lines not crisp enough. But....a lot of these flaws will get fixed once I do the pastels, weathering, chipped paint and acrylic wash and other small components added. I had the same initial reaction with my Heng Long Tiger I at first and as the build progressed, I was very stoked with the final finish.

SD, No, as M151's and late M38's had "Blackout" markers mounted on the turn signals and tail lights. These were little rectangular lights directly under the orange or red lenses that projected a very minute amount of white light to see the person in front or behind you. We typically used our "Blackout Drives" with NVG's, but it wasn't unusual to have enough moonlight out to be able to drive without them. I thought about trying to source some turn signal housings from the Tam HMMWV but decided the $ and time to find them wasn't worth the effort. Funny in that up until several years ago, all of the cabin light switches and do-dads on our HMMWV's and various trucks were no different than trucks and jeeps from 50 years ago. I'll probably add wire brush guards around the lights though, especially on the tails. One thing I am trying to research is a lens cover for the tail lights. The LED sticking out the back sort of resembles a nipple Lots of little things to still pick up/order, i.e. Hilux clear lenses, shovel/axe, new roll cage, new decal set, etc.

Utilizing ToyKid's method, I measured the fog light housings, centered everything up and traced the outline. Drilling a pilot hole and then all the way up to my biggest bit, I then took my Dremel to the grill to finish the job. The body mounts on the body itself had to be removed, but I will glue this sucker on once it's down. Mounted up the housings, ran the LED's and screw the housing backs on to keep the LED's from coming loose. Success! He's got lights baby! Since I took the pictures an hour or so ago, I've already drilled out the turn signal indicators and laid down the first coat of paint on the grill. [EDIT] Added two photos of the turn signals and tail lights. Nothing's glued in at this point. Hope to start shooting the camo pattern tomorrow evening.

Lights have arrived so I'm going to open up the grill housings this evening. Sweeeeeeeet

Dan, My Dad's HobbyKing charger had all that stuff in place and my parent's basement still went up in flames. Like I said in several posts before, his settings were correct and the insurance company is going after HK for garbage failsafes. Their NA warehouse is 15 miles from me and I'll never order a single thing from them again Five years ago I scoffed at the idea of a lipo fire until it happened to my Dad. Their entire basement and first floor was replaced due to fire and smoke damage. This is not hearsay, this stuff happens and god they're lucky

Hey Mike!Yep, I'm down south in Oly. This WW2 came from Everett. Few of us far between and we should try to get something together this spring/summer! Jim, I'll try and track him down, thanks bud and love the Wendy

Thanks fellas, His .45 M1911 holster is a little oversized, but fits nicely. Ironically, the .45 fits perfect in his hand though Yeah, E-5's don't carry sidearms, but he's also the Commander's Driver, so there Couple of other things on order too like a pack of Marlboro cigarettes and crook neck flashlight (don't want to Bogart my 1/6 figure stash too badly).
-
James, yep, I don't blame you a bit. My father was incredibly lucky he had a fire extinguisher next to the work bench. He walked away for a couple of minutes to refill his coffee and in that one instant, thing went up like a roman candle. All failsafes on the charger failed (imagine that....) even though he had set everything correctly (ensuing investigation confirmed that he had all the charger settings correct).

I should tell the story about how my parent's basement went up in flames a year ago due to a lipo fire. Let me put it this way, the insurance company is going after HobbyKing. I use them every so often when I have a model that uses them, but keep an incredibly watchful eye when they're charging. [EDIT] I also had a Nimh detonate on me when I was overseas the first time. Cell failed, ka-boom and scared the crap out of me.

Thank you SRB! That's why I use acrylics as I find them much easier to work with. Don't know if I'll do the chassis. But Rob's work is phenomenal. The "chocolate chip" desert pattern is a pain in the ******* to do. I'm not too worried about the vinyl decal flash around the #2, I'm starting to clean it up as we speak and the strap from the goggles should hide most of the imperfections.
-
Got to fix some niggles around the #2 decal, but happy. I used the number 2 for two reasons, black and gold are the colors of the US Army and secondly, the #2 is also for the 2nd Infantry Division, hence the 2ID's motto added to the 2, "2nd to None!" Model Master and Games Workshop colors. Acrylic wash, dullcoat and patches from "Soldier Story" line of 1/6 figures. Patches are oversized so I cut them down from E-8 Master Sergeant to E-5 buck Sergeant. I love the fact they are fabric though. Now just awaiting his Sun/Dust/Wind goggles from an Ebay vendor

Will do SRB, not much happening today other than shooting the base coat. Model Master Light Earth. Came out exactly how I wanted it. Shooting another coat here shortly. Going to be utilizing some techniques that I used on my Heng Long 1/16 Tiger I.

Agreed, awesome looking FAV!

SRB Bloke, yeah she's cool with it, but my man cave work table is under construction. She put up with me building 40 aircraft for my 1/350 USS Nimitz build while parked next to our dining room Agreed on the wheels and I do think the Ansmann wheels are the way to go. I'm going to do a couple of things like a painting on the spare tire housing similar to this. It's from 1-15 Field Artillery on Camp Casey in Donducheon, S. Korea. Also, the 2ID's motto is "Second to None!" So that'll get worked in somewhere, possibly Willy's helmet, ie using the decal #2 and chalking in "nd to none!" beside it. I'm also working on a yellow "Convoy Follows" sign for the front of the windscreen Got to pick up some black acrylic tube paint today from the store to do the wash on his racing suit

So begins the tear-down of the WW2. The rear jerry can and spare tire had the seams fully sanded down along with the wench, shift knob and NOS canister. Removed all burrs and sanded down. Willy himself had any imperfections puttied and his helmet sanded like crazy and three coats of Olive Drab laid down. Many thanks to Toykid for his tutorial on opening the headlight mounting in the front grill. The LED lightset should be here tomorrow, so I can start work mounting them up before gluing the grill on (have to due to the mounting bolts being removed to accomodate the housings). Pilledged my 1/6 stash and found two suitable OD Green Vietnam era kit bags. One for the straps to tie on the "Pioneer Kit" (axe and shovel) and the other to utilize for a map bag mounted behind the passenger seat. Tomorrow, I have to get some WD-40 to remove some decal residue, scrub the body in soapy water, then onto the first coat of Model Master Light Earth.
