  1. Willy, many thanks for the info. I'll leave the 380ST in for the time being and see what I can do to possibly revive the 540. Mokei, Excellent points in both sides. I searched Tamiya's website and couldn't find them. As a matter if fact, I've been completely unable to find them anywhere. I used an original sheet for the driver's helmet and they pretty much disintegrated with micro sol. There's no way I would even try to attempt to use vintage stuff after my failed attempt with a 20-year old McLaren MP4/8 early last year. I'll continue to try and source another set of the static decals for a possible future project.
  2. Gents, Many, many thanks. I didn't include a chassis shot, but here she is all cleaned up. And Grastens, yes, she will run, but only once in a while to stretch her legs It would be like slapping a motor on one of my 1/350 ships and floating it on the neighborhood pond. Just got to be careful as I forget just how fragile these old cars are.
  3. Thanks Kontemax, I don't have PS so I figured I'd upload some better pics. Well guys, she's done! I got the driver's window polished and fabricated a new 3/4 right window last night. Nit picked here and there and finally decided that it was complete for the most part. I will be trying to source an original bumper at some point as I don't like the white (even if it's a genuine Tamiya replacement part). I left the right fog light cover in it's original form, even if it's cracked. It will kind of remind me where she once came from (a buddy of mine has a Porsche 356 Continental with a cracked horn button that Porsche club members told him to leave because it was original). She's running on a Sport Tuned RS-380 and Onyx 7.4v 2S lipo with the original 3-speed MSC (didn't want to over-do it). She's not perfect, she's not mint, but in my opinion, a decent job getting her back to her former glory! I hope to get some outdoor shots soon, but it's raining cats and dogs here and I'm leaving on business for the next week. So those and a video will be added soon. Thank you guys for all your help, it's been a VERY fun project. Hoping to get a new project underway soon as I have an old Airtronics XL2P waiting here on me.
  4. Hey guys, Glass came today and a HUGE thanks to TC member GTodd for helping me out. Spent most of the day finishing up the driver and getting the glass polished. Still need to do the driver's side window and make a template for the right rear 3/4 window. Got the windscreen decaled and wiper arm glued on. Installed the 380 Sport Tuned too (she's much faster than the old 540 ). Getting close! P.S. dang lighting makes it look pink
  5. Some original waterslide decals to finish up my driver's helmet
  6. Slapped a 540ST in the Pumpkin and just ordered a TEU-105BK for it. Also ordered a 380ST for the Porsche. I had an ESC in the Pumpkin years ago but that one was DOA so it was back to the MSC. I finally got tired of the truck running away in reverse
  7. So much for the 540 Sport Tuned. Couldn't get it to fit right and I'm not about to start hacking on an old car The dimensions of the 540 ST were exactly the same as the blue endbell endurance motor, but the wires and mounting holes were completely off. In addition, because of the wire leads, it pushed the aluminum brackets apart, therefore completely jacking up the alignment of the rear axle. Just ordered a 380, so she's going back to her original configuration On a side note, my Pumpkin just got a lot faster
  8. Thanks Wood5tock. Ordered a set of waterslide decals yesterday for the driver's helmet from the UK so they should get here in a couple of weeks. Edit: I just ordered a 540 Sport Tuned from Tower Hobbies
  9. Working on the driver. Lots more to do but happy thus far. Citadel/Games Workshop paints in addition to Testor's Model Master. Going to make a visor from clear Evergreen sheet styrene and then an acrylic color wash around his suit and shoulder harness.
  10. Woodstock, Thank you much! Well, my parts from JR-RC came in today, so I installed the new engine grill, painted the wing grill and and in the midst right now of painting the passenger door mirror and driver. Added the roof antenna aerial also. Will await the arrival of the glass to finalize the b-pillar (they're cut already and just need to install) and to paint the trim around the windshield.
  11. No r/c for me this Christmas, but I got the entire Time/Life "Epic of Flight" book series from the 1980's and a really nice camping chair from Cabela's
  12. Thanks Grastens! An amazing difference from staring at a plain white car for the last several weeks Going to have to order a separate water slide decal sheet to do the driver's helmet in the Boss and Marlboro decals. I'm really, really happy with how they came out. Not perfect and OEM vintage, but a wonderful solution.
  13. These guys for my 58002 Yay! Tamiya USA shipped em out quick
  14. Thanks Bulldog! Little bit more to go. Got to shoot several coats of clear, install the glass and paint the mouldings, get the B-pillars finalized and new grills for the rear and other bits.
  15. Happy happy happy. I few niggles here and there, especially with the compound curves of the rear fender and about .5cm short on the door. A wrinkle or two on the fender and some weird stuff under the rear brake air intake (due to the new Tamtech body being Lexan). But she's looking fantastic. And yes, that's the original manual to the upper left
  16. Alrighty, Now the fun begins Going to have to trim and few here and there, but I do love the quality of Tamiya vinyl decals
  17. Absolutely fantastic Shodog!
  18. Me too Sho. As they're vinyl, they'll be getting the old warm soapy water method when I apply them. Just concerned with the complex curve of the rear fenders. Rubber spatulas are great squeegies
  19. Tamtech and I'm okay with that. Fortunately Tamiya USA had them in stock. Would love to have a real set, but hey, at least they are OEM
  20. Percymon, Thank you much bud and I'll definitely check those out. I was able to finally detach the roof mounted antenna base and sand down the glue. Also picked up some 3000 grit sandpaper to start wetsanding the body this evening.
  21. ^^^^ Awesome username dude Would really like to see the 959 rere come to fruition. Absolutely loved the looks of it when I was a kid.
  22. Decals have shipped and will arrive Saturday Mail is running a little slow here so hopefully the glass will come in today
  23. Many thanks Neverfollow! Well, some good news. The store I ordered my parts from (driver, mirror, wiper and grills) in Japan shipped my stuff out yesterday! $21 USD shipped...AWESOME Glass should be coming in this afternoon and will posts some pics up tonight. A HUGE THANKS to a TC member for their generosity New 2mm screws and nuts coming into today also. Pic of the GT01 934 W Parts Tree. Identical to the 58002 parts tree (aside from the color of plastic). Oh and by the way, I ordered a set of decals today too
  24. I've done it with a very conservative lipo on an ancient MSC. 1350mah 2s 7.4v. Won't be doing it again as I'm putting in an ESC. But no, it didn't blow up the car
  25. Fantastic work Steve! Love seeing that body coming back to her former glory
