It was the battery that ignited due to the charger failing. My Dad stepped away to refill his cup of coffee, and that minute or so, that's when the lipo lit like a Roman candle. I've had a single nicd cell fail, just once about 15 years ago, but when it did, I had to literally throw it into the bathtub of my room, and it went off like a grenade. That was scary enough.

My father had a lipo fire nearly 7-8 years ago that destroyed their basement. It was nearly a brand new Hobby King charger in which all the fail-safes, well, failed. The first floor furniture was all replaced, all of his equipment in the basement was replaced. The insurance company went after Hobby King USA here in Lakewood/Portland USA for damages after they determined the equipment was set correctly but faulty. Lipos fail, and the equipment that charges them, can fail. It happens, and it happened to my father and nearly burned down their home. Here's someone who has decades of experience with battery packs, chargers, etc. I have one or two of them, but don't use them often. I simply run NiMh since it's good enough for my needs.

Exactly what I was going to say

Finally received my own OG vintages...!
NWarty replied to WLDOR's topic in Vintage Tamiya Discussion
It's a homely looking brick, ahem, pardon me, I mean truck, that many people have an infatuation with. Tamiya didn't sell many of them, so there are fewer in the wild to be had. Oh, and welcome WLDOR! -
Setting the way-back machine for 2005(?)
NWarty replied to Saito2's topic in Vintage Tamiya Discussion
Oh the glorious scent of blue Tam thread locker. Boy, that's a good one. This is the very first thread I posted here. Although it's from 2004, I raced that Midnight Pumpkin into the very early months of 2005. -
So that's where that gigantic Airfix kit ended up? LOL

That's a sharp looking Hotshot! Really like the color scheme and black wheels

(sees thread title and immediately starts singing "Hairdresser on Fire")

It's why I hesitate to run my vintage Hotshot anymore. Three, very gentle runs, and I broke the roll cage, shock mount, and front steering knuckle. All original parts that were just super brittle due to old age. I replaced them all with originals, but it's made me think twice about ever running it again.

I want to restore a Gold Pan RC10 as I had one as a kid. I feel like I can't even get into a decent rolling chassis for under $200. And there were A LOT of RC10s made. I went looking on ebay for various Tamiya chassis' this weekend and was shocked at some of the prices. Like @Saito2 said, the days of finding a bargain roller to fix up are LONG GONE. I've got what I wanted to collect, the RC10 is a "nice to have" part of my collection. I can be choosy and patient in looking for one.

Didn't realize Ant left, but I loved Edd back in the day. I knew they were going back to England, but didn't know the mechanic swapped out. The show in later years was more commercial and all about ads & product placement, than it was flipping a car for minimal dollars. "Oh Look, they made a rusted out POS, into a $50K sale in just under an hour" (eyeroll). I miss the WD's of the aught's and probably why I've enjoyed "Flipping Bangers" so much (even if it is a bit unrealistic in terms of time frame).

Thank you much

@junkmunki If you EVER get rid of that Tyrrell P34 rear upper wing with the "Goodyear" decal, please let me know. I have a vintage P34 and have not been able to find that piece for years. Photo of my P34:

As a GHII nerd, this thread is great!

That's how it starts. From comical Gundam/High Grades to Perfect Grade RX-78-3. With Tamiya, it's the exact opposite, you go from Avante's to Comical Grasshoppers LOL

I found my grail Tamiya kit - How much would you pay?
NWarty replied to JeffSpicoli's topic in Vintage Tamiya Discussion
Yeah, if you're a Tamiya AND a VW geek, I can definitely see why you'd spend that much on your 'grail' kit. -
In for updates. Very cool find

Vintage Wild One - controller advice
NWarty replied to Crafty99's topic in Vintage Tamiya Discussion
I originally had a 75mhz Futaba Magnum Jr. with my Wild One in 1986. My vintage Wild One sitting here in 2020 has a 75mhz Futaba Magnum Jr. -
I have a SuperStock RZ in my Avante (ran my Avante yesterday actually). REALLY nice punch even with a six-cell Nimh.
