The Bigwig
Vintage 4wd
10th anniversary re release, Iconic status
cheaper than a Hotshot
Comes with full bearings, GT tuned motor, and more shocks than the Hotshot and Boomerang, same or better spec than the super Hotshot and significantly cheaper
The only Tamiya with rack and pinion steering
options for 8,4v stick packs
Would agree Snappy. I bought a re-re and was pleasantly surprised at its performance. It's a *******in' missle with an 8.4v pack in it

Also, things like the body clips etc. Its missing parts that hurts value, no matter how small, as its all hard or expensive to replace.
I'm missing that same rear wing piece on mine also. I've been searching for a replacement for months and haven't found one.

Agreed!!!! 275 for clapped out put away wet chassis that need everythiuu replaced seems to be the norm.
Yeah, it seemed just only a couple of years ago, you could get a decent resto candidate for under $100. Those days seem to be long gone now that everyone thinks their beat to s*** childhood RC clapwagon is worth serious money.

There won't be any more RC10 re-releases. AE tried it and it flopped, that's the bottom line. If they did another re-run of the Classic the kits would sit on shop shelves. Harsh to say it but true.
That's a real bummer Wandy. The gold pan RC10 is one of the only cars left that I wanted to collect and prices are already stupid for beat up, POS RC10s.

People suck. Seriously.

Mark,
Do it.
I suddenly got this weird desire to have a Bigwig a couple of years ago and purchased mine late last winter. The build was fantastic and fun. I'm running mine with an 8.4v Nimh and with the stock motor, it's VERY quick. It's a heavy beast but tears through the tallest grass easily. It's rugged, suspension is nice and the rack and pinion works smoothly.
I love the darn thing and it looks SO MUCH better in person that in photos, very much like the Hotshot.

Hotshot, super hotshot, bigwig and winger have never appealed to me. They just seem to lack tamiyas normal design quality to me.
But, considering how things are going, maybe one day ill wake up and think the bigwig is the best thing ever!
Lovely collection though. The boomerang is just sooo right! Perfect car that i also think drives great. Ive had one before though and i tend to try and not own the same car twice.
I had the same thoughts about both the Hotshot and the Bigwig, until I built them both and held them in my hand. Both are fantastic IMO.

Yes! I typically will do three to four coats over primer with sufficient dry time between each coat.

to mention that it's a great runner, and an iconic shape. I just can't help thinking that it must be coming soon.
I have a restored one, and cost me a pretty penny to do it, which is why I don't run mine. It is pretty to look at though but a runner would be nice. I ended up paying $70+ USD for the tree for the plastic battery hold down. One stupid part...Ugh. That was tough to stomach. Had to wait a long time for that part to show up.

Got the very last pieces for my project build!!! Yay! Well, sans the motor, but I already have another motor I'm putting into it. Only took me a little more than 1.5 years to collect all the parts. I'll start the build next week
Hint: It's blue and its body is already done in box art.

I used extra Tamiya plastic netting (think Hot Shot netting) and Shoe Goo along the crack on my M01 Mini body. Worked fantastic.

I'd like to own a Thundershot. Always thought it was a handsome car and color scheme.

A Wild One for my birthday in 1986. That car kept me company for a couple of years, and a couple of moves through three different states.

And holy smokes, the edit function REALLY DOESN'T WORK right now on either Chrome or Firefox...

I'm fortunate enough to own and run a restored HS. I was never really a big fan of the Hotshot, until I bought a vintage one from ebay and held it in my hands. They are MUCH better looking in person, than photos. It really is a neat design in engineering and the suspension system is definitely "plucky". They have a distinctive sound for sure and with a Technipower and 8.4v battery, they get up and go. Not as fast as my rere Bigwig, but still quick. Unfortunately I broke several of the original plastic parts in the first couple of runs, but replaced them with NOS vintage parts. Chalk it up to the car being in a garage attic for 20 years.

I have my main super duper project that is 90%+ parts complete for the build. I will not say what it is for fear of some jerkweed buying up the remaining parts.
- Sauber C12 F103 - I need to paint the replacement Williams FW15 body for it.
- Tyrrell P34 F103 (ABS body) - Needs new ABS rear wing

Back several years ago though, I had two good Craigslist experiences with sellers. One said he chose me because I wrote him a grammatically correct and coherent email, the other seller and I became friends and he's a member here
But. I generally try to steer away from Craigslist nowadays in 2019. It seems all the vintage RC stuff has dried up on there anyways. Offerup is ridiculous because every dude-bro thinks their RC wreck is worth a goldmine. I saw an RC car on there for fairly cheap and made the seller a reasonable offer about $10 lower than his asking price, because you know, it's called "Offerup". Guys says he's got a full-price offer and meeting the guy tomorrow. Less than a week later, the same car is up for sale again. At that point I just laughed and kept looking.
