Hobbywing 1060 Limiting speed of Superstock RZ
Cynan replied to Wooster's topic in All things electric...
I think using the four plates there is play already. The Super Stock has 4 mounting holes on the back, 2 sets very close to each other (why?) and when I fitted mine I used one screw and then turned the motor until the gears were engaged but I had to back the motor & pinion away to in order to get the second screw in. It’s a shame you can’t see into the gear box to check though without taking the thing apart! -

The answer is probably switch back to something more suitable for the car like the modern Sports Turned. or dare I say it, go brushless. They should run cooler. Ive just remembered that I have a temperature gun somewhere. I’ll dig that out later too and get some actual numbers. -

Had a quick run around the drive at lunch for no more than 5 minutes. Ran the car on full for about 10 seconds after that held in my hand and the motor feels very hot. ESC heat sink is also hot but not as hot as the motor. Wires and connectors are ok. I’m inclined to think that the ESC then is going into thermal shutdown and this motor is perhaps to hot for the car. I will go run it properly later though somewhere with a bigger space and grassed area but it’s not looking good - at least not in my car -

I’ve just popped a Super Stock TZ in my HS2 with 1060 and a 13T steel pinion. I’m using standard motor bullets, a NiMh battery and Tamiya connector. I’ll give it a good run and see what happens… -
Super Stock TZ for the HS2 runner and to help me decide if I prefer XC60, XC90 or Deans plugs or bullet connectors, I bought a few different ones to see in person.

I've only ever used Tamiya plugs and they have always worked fine for me, however I've never run power motors before and never LiPo. Recently I've been thinking about trying a lipo and better connectors so I've recently bought a set of Deans, XC60 and XC90 to see them up close and see what feels best. After reading lots about how Deans connectors are small and hard to pull apart I was quite surprised to find that the Deans plugs I bought come part quite easily (too easily?) and the XC60, let alone XC90, was really hard to pull apart. So much in fact that although my gut was telling me to go with XC60 before they arrived that I'm now thinking Deans is the way to go! (the plugs I bought were by Amass)

Monster Beetle upgrades while building?
Cynan replied to TheGizmodi's topic in Re-Release Discussions
Great job. I second getting a second shell. I've started doing that with all my cars now that I intend to run. Now I just hope I can match that finish when I paint mine - due to arrive today! -
CarManager: a car management database
Cynan replied to Mad Ax's topic in Anything not RC related goes here
Couple of years ago I came across JPA (I'm more in the Java world than .NET at the moment) which got rid of the need for the creation & change scripts completely. You annotate your entity classes and then JPA creates & updates the database for you upon start up. There must be something similar in .NET you could potentially use. EDIT: So this might do the job if you wanted Code First with Entity Framework 6 -
Nice video @nowinaminute I was wondering though, what are you using to capture them? I can see a mount on top of the lunchbox but what camera do you use? And how do you mount it to front? and the side action shots I presume the camera is on another car?

Went to the park with my nephew and had a blast with the Lunchbox. That then got me thinking how it would be good to have a similarly spec’d car so we could have one each… so now just ordered a Monster Beatle and MIP ball diff! Treating myself to a HS2 and subsequent restoration for my 40th, then then turned into getting an Avante and Mountain Rider as cars I’d always wanted as a kid, a second HS2 as a runner, to then a lunchbox for my nephew and now this! Where will it end! 😂 Still got two of them to finish fully as well! Hmm Wild Willy next I think 🤣 Send help quick 😂

Thanks. That saves me hunting for a black end bell version
-
Hi all, Recently I’ve been made aware of the different silver can motor types that Tamiya have supplied with their kits and it got me wondering if my shelf queen HS2 is /correct/ or not. The motor I have has a whiteish plastic end bell, though looking at various members NIB kits it seems they were supplied with black end bell silver cans? Thanks.

Mountain Rider spares in box
Cynan replied to Cynan's topic in Monster Trucks, 4x4, Wheelie Rigs and Crawlers
****! Right then… disassembly time! -
Hi all, I finished putting together the chassis on my Mountain Rider the other day (working on the shell now). The motor seems to strain a bit under the gearing but she does move on 1/3 - full throttle. Gear shifting works ok when the car is moving though I could probably do with a stronger servo. Anyhow I noticed that it comes with spare gears and a few other bits.. that’s both great ahd bad lol.. I’m guessing they expect them to wear.l and need replacing at some point. I also noticed that I have two spare 1050 bearings and this is what I’m worried about. Pretty sure I installed them all as per the manual… now I did fit the slipper clutch hop up which came with one bearing that is swapped out. So that accounts for one of the spares… but the other? Does this kit come with spare bearings or am I going to have to dismantle the gearbox and check? Thanks.

All I’d say is don’t buy a cheap one. You’ll end up spending a small fortune on upgrading it and get varying results. It’s much easier to buy a decent one to begin with - that’s unless you want the experience of building and tuning one from scratch.
-
Slipper clutch, driver figure and 2 piece wheels for the Mountain Rider. Seems the 2 piece wheels only come with 2 sets… booo… missed that one !
-
Does anyone use Tamiya Cement for this purpose?
-
First half of the gear box done… just waiting for the slipper clutch to arrive before continuing. Was supposed to be here today but it’s not 😡 Really loving this build. Nothing is ever going to come close in the RC world!

The last couple of evenings I’ve been building up the Mountain Rider. Lovely build if a little fiddly at times - like when doing the leaf springs! Argh! They were a real pain. I’d also forgot to put some bearings in the axels so redid those this morning, luckily wasn’t too far in the build before I realised. Also need to clean up some of the thread lock that’s squeezed out. Never used it before so unsure of how much to use. For the “rubber cement” I choose to use silicone sealant.
-
I bought a SkyRC e680. That came with Tamiya connectors… though they could have been added by the shop
-
The chases you can still buy - granted they are rerelease parts from a Hotshot/Super Hotshot but are otherwise identical to the original Hotshot 2. The shock tower is near impossible to find and a highly sort after part. You can get carbon fibre versions and 3D printed versions however.

Motors. Brushed over Brushless? Nostalgia or not?
Cynan replied to toyolien's topic in General discussions
I have heard and driven one. We are all different and like different things.
