  1. Finally some bits have arrived... Some alu wheel hexes, a yeah racing steering set which I’m going to use to mod a Hotshot 2 and fix the bump steer, a ball race kit, couple of stainless steel suspension shaft & support bridge for the pins to replace the screw pivots, and for the Hotshot 2 and some new rere dog ones though I was reading last night about using CVDs so for some of those on order now too I wonder if I should replace the main drive shaft with CVDs too? Hmm. The HS2 incidentally is my fav. car, so whilst having a shelf queen I’m also building one from parts to be the best it can be.
  2. Today I’ve god sod all! Post is so annoyingly slow these days.
  3. Thanks for that. What materials would you suggest?
  4. Bet you can’t wait! I’ve got the standard Avante on back order. Didn’t think the Black Special was available anymore?
  5. Been looking into printing ABS or ASA as well. Only printed PLA and PETG before. Have to build an enclosure first and also sort out some ventilation system hmm... is it worth it? I’ll see how the rear shock tower I’ve recently printed in PETG holds up..
  6. Hi, I’ve thinking of replacing the screw pivot pins on my Hotshot 2 with more modern stew pins secured by e-clips. I think this should prevent splits from where the screw goes into the arms. Does anyone know what set, like the TA01 set, would fit? I can’t seem to find the lengths anywhere to check. The Hotshot 2 screw pins are: 4.... 3x46mm 2.... 3x38mm 6.... 3x32mm 2... 3x12mm Thanks!
  7. First time spraying a body outside - the lunchbox - and went to fast. Noticed some drips, so stopped and will pick up tomorrow and sand them away and then go slow as I should have done today. Printed a second, finer resolution, version of the hotshot 2 rear shock tower. Ran out of black though so will have to order more... still this shows the part up more easily for photos and will do for a few test runs. So far so good!
  8. Thanks @Willy iine. How good does that Tamiya Cement work? Better than super glue or epoxy for instance?
  9. Ever since I restored a Hotshot 2 I've been wishing for a rere so I could get a new rear shock tower as that was the last part that had a crack in and I couldn't replace. I had used some epoxy on it but still vary of driving her just in case. Then just this week I had been reading about how you can make your own injection molds using resin and thought I'd have ago at that but then injection molding equipment seems quite expensive and my initial idea of melting ABS in an old pan and pouring it in doesn't seem like it'd work .... might still have ago at making a mold out of resin though and seeing how that works out though.... but anyhow, so today, and thanks to Qbee on Thingiverse, I can now 3D print the part instead! And it works fabulously. Yes you could use carbon fiber parts, or fashion one out of aluminum, but this looks more 'correct' to me. Part printed. Fitting tomorrow with a test drive to see how it holds up!
  10. This is not my work but should be promoted all the same and much thanks for the designer. https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:4813022 Can't wait to try this part out. Be sure to check out their other designs as there are a number of other parts on there too, such as the front shock mounts.

  11. I need to stop reading this thread as it’s inspiring purchases
  12. Never built a Tamiya from new before, always other makes or restoring them... so what else would I start with... as I saw someone else say, “because everybody needs a lunch box” Figured this would also be good to let my nephew have a spin with for his first “real” RC car. Also picked up some of the paint for box art and the bearing kit too, along with a servo and receiver. Got a second servo for my next project, a Hotshot 2, along with some rear arms but sadly still missing the battery skid plate.. fingers crossed.
  13. I’m sure I read somewhere recently that molybdenum can weaken plastics and cause premature failure... so although better for metal gears I’d be tempted to use something else when inside a plastic gearbox. That said it the rate at which it weakens the plastic may well be years so if true then you’d have to weight up the pro & cons.
  14. Today we have a new receiver, Egress wheels, Avante body shell and a couple of cans of paint. Oh and a new battery.
  15. Wow that brings back memories! One of these was my first foray into RC cars. My dad had never seen such a thing before and spent the first hour playing with it before being told off by my mum to let me have a go!
  16. Out of interest are the guidebooks much different inside, or is it just the front cover that is different?
  17. Precisely why I ended up with a whole parts tree I’ve only seen aluminium ones wheel hubs like this on eBay and never single ABS ones. I was after some red ones for a Hotshot 2 but had to settle for Hotshot ones which are slightly different, and again had to buy the whole parts tree. Hopefully you find one or Cephas can spare one!
  18. I think that’s a ‘wheel hub’.
  19. I say buy another and then you can both truly build one, side by side, AND can race them together
  20. Send me your details via PM and I’ll get right on it!
  21. Lovely idea. Just posted this in the sales forum but equally it fits here too! Free to good home (minus postage of course!) an almost compete Boomerang D parts tree. D10 & D11 (front shock mounts) missing. I’m in the UK and assuming I can get to a Post Office that’s open and the queue isn’t a mile long I can post it within a few days.

  23. My understanding is it’s only the top unshielded part that is used, so curling the bottom section up doesn’t matter.
  24. Broke my toe this weekend. Luckily I can work from home Unluckily I’ve no kits to build
